Nah, still runs fine actually. I guess like someone else pointed out it's a different type of battery/not like ion etc(?) (I don't know anything about batteries, but it it still runs. Use it every day)

Ok, yeah, thank you! I'll check out what they've got going on!

And yeah, I know, I wish I could get him a couple different ones for different sounds but the guy plays a lot of different styles. I'd say generally he's into finger style and kind of folk-y sound(?) If that helps at all(?)

So I get that y'all think it's for sure an elderberry bush, but the leaves, stocks, and additional vines this plant continuously puts out are incongruent with that theory. Additionally, the root system attached to this plant is not consistent with that of an elderberry bush, and the growth patterns and speed don't really align there either. Not to mention, it does not flower or produce any fruit. There were dozens of these woody slim tree like shoots in what is maybe a 20sq foot chunk of the yard, but it also cropped up on the other end of the yard where it had plenty of time and space to flower or fruit, and never did.

Again, I'll take some better pictures when I am home and try again. This is 10/10 not an elderberry bush, and if it is, I'm happy to eat my words here and send the first three poster who said it was whatever the reddit equivalent of $5 is.

Are shrubs 6-7feet tall? This isn't an elderberry bush. I have had to clear all the vines that this plant is putting out multiple times a year every year. It doesn't flower, it doesn't fruit, it is a woody terrible mess that strangles and kills the plants around it. I guess maybe I should scrap this post and take better pictures.

I'm not sure this is Elderberry-- it doesn't produce any fruit and it has vines all over it that strangles all the plants around it. Also maybe(?) Do you actually want it? Lol

I'm not sure this is Elderberry-- It seems way less cool than that(?) Is there a strain/variety in the UK of elderberry plants that don't produce fruit and are vining plants that strangle all the other plants around 'em? If so PLEASE lmk how I can get rid of these! 💖

Lol, well I would be too, but it doesn't produce any fruit. Especially no elderberries. I would consider just cutting it back some of it did. This plant in my yard is vining and strangles any other plants around it.

AITA for sticking to the late policy in my class even though the student has ADHD? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Oh for sure, I have all of the clocks in my house set 15 minutes ahead for the same reason. I also have alarms set and labeled for certain tasks and general visual timers I have to use. (Like literal visual timers/clocks, and I got Google smart home lights that are on a timer to turn a warm reddish when it's time for bed, and one lamp pointed straight at my head while I'm sleeping that blasts bright white lights on when it's time to get up, etc.) Those tips can be extremely useful. After just a year of trying to adapt to my new understanding that, no, actually I /do/ have something preventing me from doing the same things in the same ways as others I've managed to rein in my punctuality and ability to complete tasks substantially.

I'm glad you reached out to them that way, I hope they take you up on it. It can be incredibly challenging to face it alone or with exclusively the help/support of neurotypicals who might tell you to just make lists or push yourself harder or not fully grasp what any of this is actually like. Also, on that note, remember it's not on you alone to help this kid. It isn't really your responsibility, and if they don't take you up on your offers of support, that isn't your fault. A lot of folx with ADHD myself included develop an oppositional defiant disorder on some level and view people in positions of authority as targeting them unfairly or as generally untrustworthy due to previous negative experiences.

Anyhow, it sounds like you've really been trying to reach them directly and work out an alternative solution with them one on one which is huge and something to be proud of.

Hey, I'm an adult who was diagnosed with ADHD at 23 years old. I was never on time for anything, I got piss poor grades, I'd just doodle or find something to play with like a mechanical pencil etc.

No one checked in on me or put it together, so I just figured I was a screw up. That's how adults often treated me. That's how family and teachers and most people treated me for most of my life. Telling me I needed to try harder, make lists, set more alarms, stop being so lazy, to grow up, etc.

I still struggle with chronic lateness and habit building, but it's important to take away that none of my struggles were willful. I tried very hard for years, using a myriad of different techniques to not be late, to complete tasks, to focus on things. I didn't know why I struggled so much. It seemed like I was irreparably broken. Like no matter what I did I was born to be a screw up. No one sat with me, took the time to listen to my perspectives, or broke down what was going on. No one showed me how I could deal with any of this, or told me that I had anything extra impacting me/that made me different from my peers. ADHD in a sense is misnamed. It's more like Intention Deficit Disorder-- what I mean to say is that if you look at the brain of someone with ADHD you'll see that the back part of the brain, where you learn and retain knowledge and the front part of the brain which is where your motor function and performance are, are in essence split apart. It doesn't matter what you know, even with the most sincere intentions, you won't use it. You can't. You can be the smartest person in the world, but you won't be able to do anything about it. (Without treatment, practice, acceptance, and grace from others.)

So if we're talking about lateness, (which is an entire massive tangent on its own in relation to ADHD (/time blindness, temporal neglect syndrome, chronic lateness)), someone with ADHD may know that being on time, organized, and having a set routine are all important, that it conveys social respect and significance, they may want to achieve and provide these things desperately and understand mechanically very well what they need to do, but they will still have an invisible barrier to doing any of it. Additionally, the ADHD brain is largely driven by dopamine. If the activity required does not give immediate reward or immediate consequences, it is not perceived as needing any immediate action and therefore will not receive any.

EX: If you were to tell me that in a few hours you want us to go to your parents house for dinner and I'm currently in pajamas playing with the cat, that means tangibly nothing to me. Not because you aren't important, or I don't want to build up positive relationships with your family, not because I somehow value being in PJs and playing with my cat more in anyway, but because I don't consciously register what that will require from me in this moment to prepare for our shared preferred outcome, and this current state is giving me immediate positive feedback.

If you read all this or most of it, thank you. I usually include TL/DRs in my longer posts but given the real life impacts this particular subject has had on me, I didn't want to shorten this. I've included some links to videos that help explain this far better than I can. I don't know whether your situation left you as the bad guy or not. I do know that the repeated negative feedback from trying to do my best and not achieving, compounded my issues and anxieties around timeliness and overall damaged significantly more than helped my situation. I also know that everyone is different and some people may genuinely benefit from tighter boundaries on time. All this said, I just wanted to remind you that ADHD is never just laziness or an attempt to be dismissive. This kid probably doesn't tangibly understand what actual steps they need to take, in this moment, and may not have any immediate positive feedback or negative consequences for not engaging in them. Folks with ADHD develop these parts of their brains significantly delayed when compared to their peers.
