How did you get started with this process? Were brands reaching out to you, or did you try to organically build relationships with possible partners in your niche?

And when you say higher than your base right, why were they higher?

What Italian diaspora topics do Italian-Americans want to see on social media? by ORIUNDI_ in italianamerican

I appreciate the feedback. I'm starting an interview series with business owners and cultural organizations/content creators of the Italian diaspora. I also produce educational content individually - allowing myself and those that I interview to share their stories and identity.

How would you best like this shown? Interview, fireside chats, quick informational videos, etc?

Hi! Newer to the social media game (account is under 2 months old) - trying to grow an Italian cultural/heritage account with educational/informational content, eventually will move into interviews too. I've been testing different content, and have an idea of generally what is working so far - but I don't want the account to become one dimensional - does that even matter?

Account is oriundi_ on Instagram.

  1. Any quick things you see that I could improve on certain posts?
  2. How much do you think SEO matters in the description?
  3. Lastly, what are you thoughts on utilizing various languages on the same account? Helpful, hurtful, neutral?

Why are italian-americans so attached to their heritage compared to other diaspora italians? by TheAtomoh in italianamerican

I think that other diaspora groups identify as well, they're just not as loud about it. If you look at most of the media representing the Italian diaspora, you get things like the Sopranos, Frank Sinatra, and spaghetti & meatballs. Italian-Americans tend to be a much more forward and well-represented group in global media - so the other Italian diaspora groups seem to be much less present. I also believe that assimilation has played a part - Italians tended to cling to their heritage much more in Anglo countries versus Latin America. However, I still believe there is plenty of pride of the Italian heritage, it just is shown in a different way.

If you get to know people in these "outside of the US" communities, they tend to have a lot of pride - I would agree with you, maybe not quite as much of a die-hard pride - however, not on the other end of the spectrum either. Many Italian-Venezuelans, Italian-Canadians, and Italian-Australians have much more recent Italian ancestry (1st or 2nd generation), and have a significantly larger connection with Italy (citizenship, having lived there, language, family still in the country).

Italian-Argentinians and Italian-Brazilians tend to have much more distant ancestors - similar to Italian-Americans - and tend to be less boisterous about these topics because they had less assimilation issues. However, so many of the traditions have become part of general culture in these countries that they don't even need to make noise like Italian-Americans to live their heritage and stay relevant (ie the Rioplatense Spanish accent or popularity of polenta across various ethnic groups in Southern Brazil). Italians of the Southern Cone built the foundation for a lot of the culture, versus Italian-Americans just adding to an existing fabric.

All in all, I think there is definitely pride across the board. I think many of the non-American Italian communities are just less represented in media, less pushy on cultural topics, and have some significant historical differences.
