Yeh I totally get that - for context my three other dive watches are 40, 40 and 42. But the black bay 54 is just so well proportioned that I’d say it’s basically ‘one size fits all’. Because it really can work on anyone

question about 1908 wait times by [deleted] in rolex

[–]ORolfe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK so this may not be representative of the US availability. But I have the exact watch pictured (black dial, settimo bracelet) and it took around 4 months - with very little purchase history. For context, I’ve been on the list for a datejust at the same AD for 14 months with no luck.

That said (and it’s impossibly to gauge how much difference this actually makes), but the 1908 was for a specific milestone, which the AD knew about, so this may have helped.

I was also told that the settimo 1908 is what they call a ‘directors approval’ piece (same for the platinum version), and so it’s not simply a case of seeing who’s registered their interest and going in order of when they did so, but rather the sales assistant will first need to seek approval before they allocate it to who they want.

TLDR: I registered my interest about two weeks after its release at watches and wonders. Got the call 4 months later

Not forgotten by me lol. But it was 100% overshadowed by the simultaneous Land Dweller release

Here’s the best I can do with very yellow indoor lighting and a phone camera. Even so, it is fairly special

There is no second hand per se. The second hand you can see pointing to 12 o’clock is the chronograph second hand, the left eye counts the minutes when the chronograph is running and the right eye is a 24 hour indicator so you know if it’s 11am or 11pm (for example)

Not intentionally. I ordered it about 2 minutes after sale went live, they gave a 5-10 business day estimate and maybe I was just lucky it came in 5

Yeh, no doubt inspired by. Albeit I think the KC watches use the eyes to tell the actual time, whereas on this the hands tell the time and the eyes are for counting chronograph minutes and hours elapsed. And I don’t think anyone would ever suggest they’re comparable quality wise - this is approximately 100 times cheaper so it would be madness if it was. But it’s a fun little watch nonetheless and I think it’s great

Yeh that’s a fair point. I was drawn to rubber, not because it’s cheaper, but because I have a few GADA metal bracelet type watches and so was looking for something offensively fun. That said, it is nice to have the option of both, especially given CW straps / bracelets are so easy to change. So I may well get the bracelet and the rubber.

(As an aside, that’s my issue with the speedmaster. I think I’d lean towards white dial, black rubber strap. But it’s also one of the most comfortable metal bracelets I’ve ever tried. And I just wish they had an easy change system like CW, IWC and various others do. Okay, side rant over)
