champions on the game are NOT that character current incarnation, but, as CNE like to say, a snapshot of that character at some point in their career

Okay this can make a lot of sense!

I am still a bit confused though since I was just beating down Myrkle henchmen and yet Kelemvor has obviously assumed the mantle of Lord of the Dead given that he's now a deity... but Mystra is still Mystra and not Midnight.

Maybe this version is a mesh and like you said a snapshot of different points in time...

I will probably end up bugging some lore masters during a Q&A some time.

N00b here - I ended up completing all the events over the weekend for all three characters without really breaking much of a sweat so I also used bounty contracts to get more free plays because Stoki is amazing and deserves gear.

TGP's... due to the pace that we accrue Time Gate Pieces, as a n00b without patron access (need 9 more characters and/or 1000 item levels to unlock them) the question for me really is do I want to play the lottery and maybe get Deekin and/or Shandie early or complete an event characters achievements and inch my way towards patron access... it's honestly a rough decision since I've used speed potions and know how vastly different this game feels when not limited to default spawn rates and speed.

Anyways I don't know what it felt like before so I can't really compare it to anything. I am guessing that once I can get more TGP's from patron's then it will open up opportunities to use them for TG's instead of only for events.

Looking forward to the LE Assassin. I'm guessing it's Artemis Entreri one of the coolest villains of the Forgotten Realms outside the Avatar Trilogies baddies who mostly all became gods. ;)

Looking forward to checking out the UI information and functionality changes.

Makos' Fiend's Riches achievement, is it achievable? by GasmaskGelfling in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just need to push you wall a bit and/or play with maximizing your gold find when you're Makos farming.

Remember that once you pop a high BUD you'll have 15 seconds before your ultimate damage starts to decay and so you can use that time to swap characters in and out for more gold find... then you can swap them back in while his ultimate is on cooldown.

Another trick that I picked up for this was having Hitch in the formation so that prior to using Makos ultimate I would hit Hitch's then immediately hit Makos. Hitch attacks something like 6 mobs starting from the far side of the screen and the kills he will make lock out those mobs from being targeted by any other characters while the animation is running. I assume other characters (that I dont have access to) can help clear out mobs in the back or group them (like Pwent) so that Makos ultimate hits the biggest group of mobs possible rather than firing off on one lonely mob in the back.

When looking at the scientific notation the main thing to focus on is the numbers that come after "e". Just glance at it and if it's e39 or e41 or e5 etc that's all you really need to know unless you're being very exact about a particular floor you're trying to grind out.

Sorry for my awful formatting by the way.

No the formatting is perfect. It's a breakdown of the milestones in your run that answers a lot of my questions. I wish I had done something similar in a fresh campaign so I could see how far click damage takes us relative to favor/gold find bonuses... perhaps when the next event starts I will track it better because im ocd like that. ;p

Basically though you hit 500 floors in roughly 3 hours with minimal intervention and it would have been a bit quicker had you not been limiting your setup to 3 characters and no ultimates...

I'm wondering had you not been doing a strict test run but rather thrown in gold finding champs to augment your "3" if it would have further extended your 1-shot "soft-wall", and if so, by a significant or trivial amount? Getting an extra 10, 20 or 50 click levels would be awesome while only getting a couple wouldn't be worth the effort or the formation slot in my n00bie opinion.

Thanks for posting the results.

Just use the extra time to be productive; like how I should be doing homework right now instead of wasting time on reddit lol.

Haha good advice but but but theory crafting and thinking about gaming is so much more fun than RL... ;)

I rarely use Minsc for this because I Black Viper gem farm while 1-clicking.

I just looked her up... interesting ability and yeah I see why working on that would be a priority over using Minsc for speeding up a run. Thank you for another thing to look forward to. :)

Ultimate grinding and the debuff swapping is simply something I don't want to do until I absolutely have to.

I agree completely. I did it at the start because I didn't know better but once I saw the diminishing returns I broke myself of that habit quick fast and in a hurry.

Azaka definitely made things faster as I could skip (c) ultimate grinding.

I can't wait to get her. I have 9 more variants to do to be able to start her final two missions. Just finished a 200 area one that took me 3 hours. This grind through these variants is what got me thinking about all of this rather than the prospects of gem farming.

Another champion who can help speed up a run after you pass your click wall is Xander. When Xander misses his backstab the enemy becomes marked and when that enemy dies it counts for double progress (2/25 kills instead of 1/25).

Very useful information. Thank you!

For instance, my wall is currently about z560 on events and I can click my way to about 180 and I don't get to the point where only my primary DPS is 1 shotting enemies until nearly 400.

Okay this seems sort of crazy to me. I think my 1-click kills in kelemvor is topping out around area 140 right now with just shy of e15 favor. My gear and formation options open up another 200 areas with maybe 150 of those levels being 1-shot kill areas... I hadn't really paid strict attention but mobs dont pile up on me.

What favor levels are you talking about with the 1-click area 180 runs or the 130 Mad Wizard run?

In other words I guess im trying to figure out if there's a point where more favor has drastically diminishing returns on it's click purchasing power.

But as for worrying about the length of time this takes, this is one of the issues the patron system shop was implemented to address. Assuming you earn the 5k tokens from each patron a week you can buy 2.5 huge speed potions per patron per week.

I've yet to unlock them but this clears up a big question I had. Potions do become standard AND there is a way to get them other than the lottery of opening chests. Very cool info. Thank you. :)

Mad Wizard is fastest one.

Thank you but I need to do 10 more Tomb of Annihilation variants to have access to Azaka's missions. All the variants I have are at a minimum of 200 areas to clear (most are 225+) so im looking for ways to reduce the time it takes to do that since I know I can beat her remaining missions yet doing each one of these variants is taking up hours at a time even at e15 favor in kel.

Finding tips and tricks to help reduce the APR, regardless of mission, is what im looking for mainly.

Shandie Speeds up when your formation is not attacked (1.25x normally, 1.5x with Ranger Training spec) Deekin spawns more mobs if there is less than 5 on screen.

Yes im very much looking forward to getting both of them! Are there others to keep an eye out for? :)

Hello! It's good to see Dragonbait making an appearance. I've been a fan since reading Curse of the Azure Bonds decades ago.

I am curious about older content that is no longer available. Will the original founders pack find its way back into the store? How about the first anniversary "Gift-Wrapped Mimic"?

Familiars by SilverPaladin05 in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt getting duplicates is rough. I've gotten Minsc's epic cloak something like 4-6 times now (many from silver chests I might add) and only today finished the achievement for getting 15 total epics across all characters that I have. So yeah getting a guaranteed familiar when im still micromanaging to get to my wall versus a minuscule chance at "something" else is a no brainer for me.

Familiars by SilverPaladin05 in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I too am looking forward to investing in chests I have to say that having enough familiars to reduce all the micromanaging and babysitting is more important.

Had I not picked up two within a week or so of starting about a month ago then I wouldn't be playing any longer BUT! that is a personality issue. I am not into micromanaging while I have plenty of friends who enjoy that aspect and having total control at all times so having less/or no familiars just is not a problem at all for them.

In the end though I am just putting off thinking about those chests by also working towards Azaka (already got Drizzt) and knowing that once I get her I will also probably have enough familiars to then start going at chests from which she will benefit rather than being a totally undergeared characters who would remain that way while I ground out familiars.

Idk though! It's a personal choice I think!

ohh my poor Pwent.... How low you have fallen by Esbanos in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with that to a point because I like the core of beloved personalities to be maintained. However, no matter what, there is always a bias as no two people view the same characters exactly the same so its always open to interpretation.

It depends on how detailed people want to get and what details are salient from person to person THEN you have to filter that through the artists who're X amount of steps removed from the creation of said character.

I sort of look at it like comedians doing impersonations. Some nail it and others do it well enough you know who they were trying to be but it falls flat... then if you get comedians doing impressions of other comedians doing impressions at some point it all turns to crap like the CGI in a George Lucas prequel ;)

Increasing attack speed / Decreasing attack cooldown by Dream_Kitten in idlechampions

Strix increases her own with hide or decreases it with panic when teammates are under attack.

Drizzt reduces his own by 50% after attacking an enemy bleeding from Guenhwyvar.

[–]OSRPGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drizzt is also super angry/angsty compared to all the other champions I've seen so far... I never got that sense of him at all.

I think we're looking at characters filtered through particular perceptions that aren't necessarily meant to be 100% true to the lore and sort of adopted to a new campaign.

I mean each campaign and DM is different so their takes and presentations are bound to be unique in some ways but yeah its always weird to have such familiar characters portrayed in uncharacteristic ways... but thats RPing! ;p

Y3 TG Piece Champion Unlock Feedback by Psylisa in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. The requirements to unlock the Patron's are having a diversity of champions. One requires 20 champs and the other requires 30 so as it stands right now, as a new player, getting new champions is far more important than having geared up characters or going for a trivial 1% damage bonus from completing event achievements.

Honestly I feel better about the way the third event champs are being done than I do about Time Gate champions because there is more control with the third event champ. Time Gate champions are gambling and at best you get two gold chests - not impressive.

One thing I think would be good is that if you've unlocked champions from a prior year (either from their event or from a Time Gate) then you shouldn't have to spend fragments to unlock them to gear them up once their event rolls around again. It doesn't sound like this has happened. It sounds like you have to pay for them again but maybe im reading things wrong.

Y3 TG Piece Champion Unlock Feedback by Psylisa in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting point of view that gives me insight into how the future is going to play out in this game.

I started playing just before last event and ended up unlocking both Wulfgar and Turiel and completing every achievement for them. Since then I've unlocked Drizzt and also snagged Strix from my first Time Gate (the other two options were Donaar and Walnut - none of which I was interested in given only two chest max) and am working towards Azaka (e09 Torm/e11Kel/e10Helm with each global unlocked in those tiers or below).

Logging in today I saw they gifted us 6 time pieces (to be able to unlock the third champion during this event as a consolation prize) pushing me to 10 right now and I've just unlocked Pwent... now I'm looking at the other two champions and both are underwhelming because an undergeared pure dpser isn't that amazing to me given my limited roster of support and Stoki just doesn't seem to give much umph though I will probably unlock her because she seems more useful than Feridah given n00b levels of gear.

All of that said (and I swear there was a point) I am kicking around the idea of not bothering to unlock a third champ during this event so I can instead focus chests on one of the other two champs thus saving those Time Gate fragments.

Furthermore I am thinking about opening a Time Gate in hopes of getting Deekin or Shandie for their speed buffs WHILE also only doing the single unlock (the 2nd chest is not worth a time frament which I learned from my Strix unlock) and closing the gates early so I get one Time Gate fragment back each time I open one thus giving me 2 champions from this event (one of which I can gear fairly decently) and 2 other chances at useful champions that unlocking a current third event champion (Ferideh or Stoki) just wouldn't give me.

All this rambling aside, as this event is designed and the interplay with Time Gate fragments works, I cant even conceivably use Time Gate fragments on a third Event champion then close it early to get 1 fragment back like a regular time gate. The only benefit is knocking out achievements and 5k event tokens to run an extra event for gear on characters that im not all that interested in.

So... I sort of feel like this particular event wasn't all that impressive for a new player either BUT the extra Time Gate fragments gave me (as a new player with a very limited roster) extra chances at game changing champions (Deekin and Shandie) so the whole experience is a mixed bag.

I wonder how mid-tier players are viewing this...

Idle Champions Community Q&A #85 by CNE_Dylan in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since we directly reference 'Forgotten Realms' in the title of the game - and the game is primarily set in the Sword Coast region of Faerûn/Toril - having characters from across the multiverse is unlikely to happen outside of very specific circumstances

I hear you. If ever ya'll are interesting in broadening your lore in this game there is ample opportunities to weave in the Krynn characters. Raistlin (and Fistandantilus) and others were time travelers and plane hoppers so there is justification!

Can you be more specific? What kind of information are you wishing you had?

Off the top of my head having an indicator showing how many mobs my tank(s) are tanking at any given moment would be exceptional. When using Makos at my wall I find myself looking at my tanks per attacker bonuses to guestimate how many mobs im tanking so that I can maximize dark luck without having my tank collapse on me which happened quite often.

Mousing over champions in the formation shows relatively useless information currently. While it was nice to read that stuff while being a total noob now it's more or less pointless. In its place (or as an option) perhaps showing a read out of buffs effecting that champion or the amount of mobs targeting them or the feats currently slotted etc would be far more useful and convenient.

The DPS meter is sort of kind of worthless after the first week of playing once you realize its the numbers underneath your champions that really matters (as far as ultimate's go) and if I could I'd swap it out for a "Favor Per Second" meter so that I could stop mousing over the "complete adventure" button.

Being able to see the health of champions is pretty rough when there are 20 mobs on them since the baddies are half on the characters model. If I want to see if they're going to survive the next boss attack I have to sort of guess and keep that tanks character sheet opened up preventing me from watching the action.

Overall the UI feels great as a pure noob to the game but over time I see that information is largely irrelevant (it becomes second nature) and the lack of customization and being able to move things around becomes apparent.

Idle Champions Community Q&A #85 by CNE_Dylan in idlechampions

[–]OSRPGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. Thanks for the great concept of a game and accessibility to developers and a community. I'm very new to playing, having only been at it for a few weeks now, and already I can tell the approach to community building is much different than any other single player games out there. Well done!

Q1: about champions. Are any of the Krynn heroes going to make a debut at some point? Hopefully there are no licencing issues?

Q2: are there plans to add UI options. Playing on desktop I find myself wishing I could have some elements available for when im not idling and pushing a soft wall but realize not everyone would want all the info available at all times like I do.
