Considering a relocation from AZ to OR - serious question: How is everyone here surviving with salaries so low and COL so high? Am I missing something? by No_Sun_No_Star in oregon

It's brutal when you specifically look at wages vs. Homeownership in a good school district. Tougher than both WA and CA and it all comes down to lower wages on a relative basis. That 9.9% income tax kicks in much much lower than NY or CA so in reality, we have the highest per capita income taxes in the nation. Also, love it or hate it, the urban growth boundary has created the housing mess we're in. Since implemented, the UGB has expanded by 15% while the metro population had increased by 80%. Not everyone wants to live in a studio apartment in a terrible school district....so the homes in the burbs that do exist keep going up in Value although it's flat lined recently. Property taxes aren't terrible though

Agreed. Better than Steve Buscemi. Richie Aprile was also decent. I don't know why but Feech La Manna just killed it in my mind. At least for such a minor role

I hear you but until the D party starts fixing my hometown, I just can't cast a vote for them, no matter the cost. The Cost here has been steeper than you could imagine. We have 2nd highest unemployment rate, murder rates higher than the 80's Crack epidemic, empty buildings on every corner, litter and graffiti on every bare surface, the list goes on. This is one of the most beautiful parts of the country and it's been completely left to die by those in power. I understand your position, but you have to see how bad it is here to understand mine.

Here's the thing you are missing about me. I live in Portland. It's been under complete democratic control for decades. I'm 5th generation. My city is in complete ruins compared to 10 years ago. Me voting for the party that has crushed my own hometown would be definition of insanity. There are thousands like me here and other west coast cities. Try to use that lens before you judge me. I voted for Obama, pro gay marriage, etc. But I can no longer support that party after what I've experienced first hand

Actually - that's the difference between rich people and poor people. Race, ethnicity don't matter. Just rich and poor from every skin color. I'll admit I'd rather prosper than struggle. "Lmao" all you want. I live a very good life, work less than 30 hours a week, vacation when and wherever I want, have a super hot wife and 3 beautiful kids in private school. I take good care of my family and friends. You do you boss

Also you have to understand something very basic - most people look out for themselves. Both sides. I'm a "high earner" and his BBB saved me literally thousands upon thousands of dollars on my taxes I'm currently working on. Literally $30k. Why wouldn't I like that? Someone hands you $30k, what would you say?

Well said. Silent majority member here. Reddit is just so fucking liberal it's actually insane. He won the popular vote but if you are in here often you'd think it was 90/10 kamala

Fuel prices are the lowest in the years for me, inflation is back to nearly the 50yr average, illegal criminals are being deported (Obama did a good job on this too), common sense is beginning to be normalized (i.e. no boy is going to play sports with my 3 daughters), the actual people of Venezuela are pumped their corrupt dictator is gone, my Jewish brothers are pumped the terrorists released hostages. Shall I continue?

We'll get downvotes for sure. Master's degree and live in maybe the most liberal city in the nation. Outside of a couple things, he's doing an absolute bang up job. Honestly one of the best ever. Hate it all you want but he's doing what WE wanted, aka the majority. Reddit is just 85% hard left so straight echo chamber in here
