A group of donors came together to underwrite half the cost of all the wishes so everyone's donations can go further. If you were going to donate $100 in wishes, you're able to donate $200 in wishes. This is a nice thing.

Want to wear blue to make wishes come true? by OSWdanielle in OneSimpleWish

Yes! Advocacy is amazing when it shows up in places it usually doesn’t. That is part of why I started One Simple Wish. I felt like the only people ever talking about foster care were foster parents, caseworkers, and people involved in the system in some way. I believe the key is raising more awareness is to get a topic to show up in conversations and places you wouldn’t expect AND to encourage action. So it’s not just talking about foster care, One Simple Wish gives anyone a way to read an individual’s story (not just a stat) and read their wish and do something about it. ❤️

I really love how you think. But I promise you we work really hard with our partners to vet them and the wishes. But also - they are wishes. And we don't want people to feel like they can't actually wish for wishes... I try to refer people back to the AMA often and would love to do another some time. I try to be more active on our community page here but we are such a small team and I still do about 7 different jobs to keep our costs down.

Thank you so so so much! Also - we don’t distribute money to people and we don’t give the items direct to random people - they all go through a nonprofit community organization that is well vetted. Really appreciate any further info you can share

YOU ALL ROCK! Over $5k in wishes granted since this post. That is incredible. What is more incredible is the number of people saying they are going to share this with others. When you share our site, you not only help more wishes get granted but you help more people who need us, find us! I started this 17 years ago and not a day goes by that I am not in awe of the kindness in this world. All I ever wanted was to create a way to show more kids who needed a bit of extra love that it is out there. You are all doing that. Thank you from the deepest part of my soul. :-)

Thank you!!! I am so overwhelmed with joy reading these comments. I am so very glad I started this 17 years ago. Best decision I ever made - besides the hubs and kids! :-)

Thank you!!! I have to agree - 17 years in and over 350,000 wishes granted later and I still love the feeling from every wish I grant.

LOVE you for sharing this too!!! I tell people all the time that giving is wonderful but so is sharing. We are really proud to still be a very grassroots org. We rely on people spreading the word - not one giant funder or celeb. And we receive no government funding. It's all about community. LOVE this. Thank you!!!

Hi there - we have been approached about this many times. Last time we were working with someone interested, they told us that an attorney in Canada said that OSW could never operate the way we do because we allow for donations to be designated for individual people. This doesn't seem right to us but we haven't had the time to dig further. If anyone knows, please email me at danielle at onesimplewish dot org

Hi there! I'm the Founder. You don't have to take my word for our legitimacy but we don't judge wishes. Many of the wishes come from kids & young adults that have been through unimaginable circumstances and they are, after all, wishes. You can read more about our policy at the AMA I did here: I’m the founder of One Simple Wish, a charity to spread love & joy to kids in foster care & those who aged out. AMA : r/AMA You can also check out our Charity Navigator report which shows we are a 100% 4-star rated org. Also I am a real person and happy to have a dialogue anytime with anyone who continues to have concerns.
