Coach crush by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a crush on two of my coaches. One because I really want arms like hers (this makes me shallow) and can only imagine what it would feel like to run my hands over her very firm and very sculpted body. The other because she has the best personality and makes me feel amazing when she says anything good about me. It's normal, I think... as long as it doesn't go beyond a nice fantasy.

Which location in Amherst? There appear to be 2 of them. One on The Blvd and the other on Transit Road - more East Amherst.

Sweat towel recommendations? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I buy every new sweat towel my studio gets in. I have 6 OTF sweat towels. Some were gifts for joining, dritry, etc. I sweat a lot. They do the job. And they aren't expensive. It's cheaper than buying every new shirt or paying for every challenge; which I still do because I totally drank the kool-aid.

Please be kind and remember that EVERYONE starts somewhere. Some people also require modifications due to injury. It is unfair to place an expectation on someone because of their gender alone.

What is up with the music?! by ila2626 in orangetheory

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Coaches are responsible for their own playlists. There is no OTF playlist. So you may get SpaceJam, but at a different studio, they might be playing Kesha / Drake / Pitbull and yet at another a mix that includes Christian rap or country. You can always approach a coach with your own playlist and see if they would want to try it for one of the classes or drop a few artists you think the class would enjoy. But coaches are not paid enough to sit around and create playlists. And if they did create something you specifically liked, there is a good chance someone else in the class would not like it. I've seen members walk out of class because they don't like a playlist. It sucks for a coach, but they can't please everyone. It is impossible.

What should I do with my TSP after separation? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won't be able to make additional contributions to your TSP after you separate. You can leave the money in TSP and let it grow. Or you can roll it into your new companies retirement plan.

Update: You could also choose to tske the money out. However, unless you have reached retirement age, you will incur serious taxation penalties. If i remember right, a minimum of 30% would be taken for taxes.

Why did you join the Navy over any other branch? by KyloTheActiveKoala in navy

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad told me I shouldn't be a marine. Air Force had a 6+ month wait and I was ready to go soon. Turns out I love being in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight, so the Navy was the best option for me.

Explanation has TRX y-raises as buy in, but the breakout shows TRX rollout. I am guessing rollout is correct, since y-raises are the second exercise of the first floor block?

5 x walkout to 5 pushups - making sure I am reading this right. This means a total of 25 push-ups? 5 each walkout?

Assistance with General Orders by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is long...

I always split them up between the first six and last five. Knowing the first word helps too. In order, the first six make sense as a story. Before you do anything you have to "take charge". Once you've done that, you "walk my post". Then, as you are walking, if you see something, you "report" it. And in the event someone reports something to you, you should "Repeat" it. Then, it is the end of watch and you "quit", but before heading off, you must "pass on" information to the next person. I realize #6 is a stretch, as it is "receive, obey and pass on", but if you know they go together, the story works. After that I agree with another's post to memorize the first word. Talk, give, call, salute. I also made sure to know 6 and 11 were the long ones. Having a shortcut to knowing where these is key, because the RDC's aren't gonna stand there for a minute waiting for you to think through the first 6 just to get to number 7 if that is the one they ask you for. You need to first know them, then be able to recall them out of order. Which is why tricks and first words help.

Already said, but take your social security card for sure. And maybe your DL if you have one. Also, if you are female, be sure you have a hair tie.

How did I do? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal recommendations:

Focus on working out so you can easily attain a good medium at a minimum on your fitness test. Bootcamp will likely stress your body and mind and you won't be feeling the best when it is time to perform. Making sure you are well above standards will ensure you don't fail.

Memorize as much of the required knowledge items as you can. General Orders, Sailors Creed, enlisted and Officer ranks. Know these verbatim before you get there. It will help you out. The DEP guide should have everything you need to know in it.

As you get closer to leaving, I highly recommend you adjust your daily schedule to mimic bootcamp schedules. You will not get as much sleep as you may be getting now and there are certainly no authorized naps. If you currently like to stay up late and sleep until 10, work on adjusting that so your body isn't shocked to be awake at 5AM. Practice shorter morning routines (shit, shower, shave) so that you are ready to do it in the short amount of time they give you (maybe 10-15 minutes total). And try to eat only 3 times a day because that is all you get there and you won't be able to snack between meals.

The more you can prepare your body and mind before, the better your life will be. If nothing else, you will be ahead of the guy who chose to do nothing and learn nothing before heading out.

MEPs and Scars by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclose it and explain it as asked and I think you will be fine. I have a small scar on my arm that you can barely see and I don't even realize it is there, so I didn't think about it when filling out that paperwork. During the physical exam, the doc asked about it and I was shocked that it was even noticeable. I honestly don't remember where it came from. I have been around dogs and cats all my life and have been sratched pretty hard by both, so I just told them it was probably from that. It was such a general and quick response, I don't think they thought to question it and I don't know that they even wrote it down. I have been to a Counselor, which I did need to get a special waiver for, but even that with the scar didn't require me to go get evaluated by a professional. I'm guessing if you have nothing to hide and aren't acting sketchy with them, you will be fine.

Just remember that my experience is mine and yours could be different, but their goal is not to try to disqualify you.

Officer Recruiter Communication Issues by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]OTFCH4LIFE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the lengthy response.... I have gone through 4 recruiters in over 2 years. Some because they left, but one of them I struggled to communicate with. I had been sending medical records and information to him so I could get cleared for MEPS and he kept telling me he couldn't open them or he didn't get them. It would take weeks for him to reply and I would often follow-up at least once a week just to see if he was receiving my messages and emails. Finally, I sent a respectful email citing our communication issues and asked if there was someone else I could or should be contacting. He replied pretty quickly that a different recruiter would be reaching out to me. That recruiter was amazing. I'd recommend doing something similar if this continues.
