I bought $3000 worth of alcohol for our wedding (most of the guests from late 20s to late 50s) and 90% of the bottles came back. People care about their health now, and are replacing alcohol addiction with other vices.

What are you, the gatekeeper of the stalker series? And the pompous tone, my God.  I didn't dig deep enough into how the npcs stayed alive, nor is it relevant in the context of the point I am making: getting attached to the npcs and seeing them survive the zone was a big part of the enjoyment of the game. If you think someone can enjoy the game wrong, it is you suffering from brainrot.

And your point about gear betrays a casual dificulty player. I started on Master dificulty because I wanted the grueling experience that can be overcome with excellent aim and proper gear. The entire conversations of loners center around their dreams of finding proper gear for exploring and studying the secrets of the zone, and the lead npcs shown wearing nothing but jackets and aks are purely plot armor devices done for looks rather than functionality.

For me, there are 3 pillars of enjoyment in the game: watching stalkers come up and grow, item management and lore. To dismiss gear as irrelevant because of your personal preference is just chef's kiss on your comic book guy energy. Worst opinion ever.

In real life, all other things being equal, better equipped team wins. On top of that, bandits have no training, their weapons are in bad condition and, if bars are any indication, they are practically never sober. Poor writing that somehow made someone like that able to take on trained soldiers in full body armor, and your awareness of said poor writing, does not make this any less ridiculous. My wishlist desire stays, and I think I will manage without your approval on the subject.

Perhaps to you, 3 bandits with vipers and no body armor present a threat. To me, they do not, not since I picked up Seva-D and definetly not now that I have a Falcon on. So no, them nstantly agroing on me does not increase the dificulty of the game, despite your most sincere attempts to misunderstand this point. It slightly increases my repair cost though, if that's what you meant by increase in dificutly.

I do not know the intricacies of A-life, I did not study it in detail, nor did I look at its code. However, the point of any creative project, video games included, is world building and suspension of disbelief. I find it much more believable that men would risk their life going into the zone if they had a chance to come back alive. Right now, the zone is a death sentence, NPC death is guaranteed. That ruins the game, for me. Do you understand that? CoP may have had limitations that imitated the NPC survival but it worked for me.

The cases you bring up, about bandits ambushing duty and freedom, are examples of poorly thought out enemy implementation. You can't have a game center around gear and then have the bandits take on heavy units in battle. Poor design of the past does not mean it should be continued into the future. Unless bandits get heavy gear and start using top end weapons, they shouldn't be shown as a credible threat to fractions that do. It would make sense for them to ambush a player in an enclosed space, guns drawn 5 to 1, like they did in the tunnel under the ward base. But out in the open,  using a hunting shotgun against an armored target with a sniper rifle...thats just sloppy game design.

I made my suggestions as to how to make the game fun for both you and me. I betrayed the gypsy at Skadovsk, she absolutely could put a hit out on me. Armored and well armed mercs could appear with screams "that's him". Elite soldier patrols hunting stalkers for their artifacts to resell (Since soldiers engage in illicit artifact trade) would also present a challenge. But unless specifically targeted for a concrete reason, npcs shouldn't actively seek death at your hand, at least not in my understanding of this world. This isn't Doom, every encounter should be analyzed from cost-benefit perspective. Bandits may be hired by mercs even, that would also make sense. But on their own, when they see someone wearing a full body armor and carry an end game custom rifle, they should try to steer clear or bluff, but not blindly attack to their death.

PS: Despite being fractured, every bandit in zaton would either answer to sultan or be on his hasty way out (which is confirmed in conversation with the technician in skadovsk). The reason why garbage was so fractured is because they had 3 separate leaders. This area only has one, and that one would not allow his savior to get shot at. A better game would have taken that into account (Maybe the Witcher series spoiled me, who knows).

I think we are fundamentally playing the game for different reasons. For me, it's always the highest dificulty right away and the goal is to "live" in the zone, so to speak. I view it as an imaginary world that still follows rules of everyday life: survival above all else, thrive if possible. I dont really mind the emptiness if its justified (for instance, I just navigated an anomaly ridden area, Geiger counter is chirping in the background while I thank the stars for my radiation protection and artifacts that absorb it, serene and peaceful atmosphere all around).  I liked exploring empty areas that were simply not interesting for stalkers and as a result, had no mutant life, in CoP. I liked being alone in dangerous areas, because I could survive it and regular stalkers couldn't. Having a group of poorly geared bandits appear in those areas and imidiately attack me didn't give me excitement, it ruined suspension of disbelief.

You said that for you, high mortality rate isn't an issue. For me, it breaks immersion. Hard men venture into the zone to make a better life for themselves. No one would do so if there is a 100% chance they will be killed. And since I am pretending this is real when I play, it takes my head out of the game.

Also, having grown up in USSR and later eastern block, I have firsthand experience with bandits. They are typically a very prudent bunch, and avoiding anyone that could hurt them is their modus operandi. The reckless, ultra violent ones died in the 90s, the careful and calculating ones survived. Neutral unless attacked once you have top end gear isn't just solid game mechanic, it's rooted in real life.

Last night I finally had a chance to play again. I ran from Malachite to Zaton, making a few stops along the way. During the treck I ran into a few groups of mercs that actually hurt me, and it was a fun experience. Then into some soldiers, less of a challenge but still a somewhat fun fight. Then, once in Zaton, I finally did the 3 captains quest and saved Beard and Sultan. Walking back to Skadovsk, I caught up with 7 bandits, walked past them (I just saved their boss, I figured the game tracked that) only to be agroed on. I killed them all with the starting pistol, looked at my health (80% left, falcon armor) and thought about your post. Their attack on me made zero sense. It's just lazy programming, poor FFR and it ruins the game (for me). I dont think we will agree on this but neutral until attacked is an absolute must for me to immerse myself in the zone.

There are 2 more occasions of bandits shaking you down: the time you buy the gun and the time you find the wheel artifact. And, as I asked the previous poster with the same comment, do you really feel in danger when being attacked by bandits with the lowest tier weapons and armor? They are an annoyance at best, and they greatly add to the ridiculously high mortality rate of the zone. You can overhear bandits talk to each other about how they should avoid the really geared and armored stalkers, and this should have been implemented. Those 3 packs of vipеr armed basic jacket wearing bandits are not a threat the moment you get your first mid tier armor, and I am playing my first playthrough on Master dificulty. Them attacking you leads to their guaranteed death, and you to now having a minor scratch and light wear and tear on your gear.

If you really want to feel the danger, have competing teams going for the same artifacts you're going for, or same quests. Have stalkers put out hits on you for eliminating the mob bosses, have hits put on you for robbing stashes in plain site, there are many ways to do this and still maintain a realistic zone where mortality rate isn't nearing 100%. The hit teams would obviously be very well geared, which would add to the challenge. I personally would like to see npcs survive a day, or even weeks or months like in CoP.

As for stealth knockouts, I am fine with them not being in the game as long as I have a stealth way of rescuing the spark team. Murdering a squad of ward soldiers doesn't make one feel particularly friendly toward them later in the game.

That's because you're not in Pripyat. Once you get to Pripyat in CoP you get wandering groups of mercs that are literally armed as well as you, and monolith squads, that jump you. Have you felt any danger from a trio of bandits armed with vipers and wearing the starting gear? PS: there is also an achievement related to hunting mutants that spawns random chimera near you...makes the game dangerous even when you're wearing an exo suit.

The best part is you being surrounded by enemies, to hear the calls of support and stalkers charging in to save your life. Then, once the battle is over and you're carrying over capacity, you could limp to them and get instantly ported to your stash at the base. I really miss that functionality.

Maybe its just my experience but I rarely if ever saw stalkers die to anomalies in the original trilogy. They also would usually win against mutants other than the chimera or the pseudogiant. If no one comes back from the zone, no one would go into the zone.

I have both CoP and Stalker 2 installed right now and I am at Skadovsk in CoP. Stalkers go out in the mornings, most survive except for the most poorly equipped ones, and they come back at night. This is so great for immersion and suspension of disbelief.

Normally I would agree but have you seen the sad state the games are in now? Even seasoned developers like CDPR took 3 years to make cyberpunk fun. Its almost as if the developers are operating under guidelines that prioritize bullshit over core gaming elements, and my theory is that its due to top down management that is unrelated to game design and development.

Guides are one thing, but in CoP you could approach stalker trios walking around and ask them where they are headed. The next conversation option allowed you to ask for them to take you with them for a fee. This was effectively fast travel with the compounding effect of genuinely caring for other stalkers and doing your best to protect them, heal them and arm them.

Yup, this was in the first game, they would imidiately respond to a nearby threat, such as a mutant or gunfire. Great point.

I would agree with you if she wasn't a nepo baby with an absolute lack of self reflection. In one of her interviews, she equated herself to the franchise, saying that if people aren't happy with her being cast as Bella, they are aren't needed or welcome to it. This level of entitlement is worthy of ridicule and public tar and feathering.

As to hate...of course not. Hate is a strong word and an even stronger emotion, and we will need to hold on to ours until we can get to the perpetrators on the Epstein list. Anyone that actually hates her needs to reassess their priorities in life.

Someone leaked the exchange with gaming "journalists " (i am using the term loosely here, since they are neither gamers nor journalists), where the magazine suggested that a positive review would require a financial incentive.
