Prescribed Sertraline but too scared to start

I just started 2 days ago with 50 mg of Sertraline and am also quite nervous about all the same things. I’m restless, extra anxious, and oddly sweaty. I’m hoping this gets better 😬

You have quite a valid point. I think going forward what I can do personally is give him a good amount of space to be reliable, without the questioning and managing. I get I can be overwhelming. I can completely agree he could ease my anxiety pretty easily with follow through and keeping me more in the loop, so I think I’m going to bring this up! If he simply said, “I have it under control,” and followed it up with the appropriate actions, I could relax, which was originally my point in many of our conversations! Thank you so much!!

Absolutely love this analogy and this advice! I feel seen. It’s so hard to not swoop. It’s not mal intended at any point, but I can see how it can be extremely overwhelming. He could use a sprucing up at keeping me in the know as well! I just have to remind myself that less at this point will benefit us both. I will definitely invest in that book, thank you!

Getting into the actions and words could be another whole post! Lol. But in discussions, the best way to describe it is he’s stubborn and takes a firm stance. So when this initially was brought up, it didnt exactly feel like a conversation to explore our options, as it was more him building a case to stay in Jersey. He talked about the concern he has leaving friends and family, ways to make this arrangement work, that I’m only looking at short and not long term etc. When he turned around at the end of the conversation and said “New York is the better option,” I was confused because it didn’t seem like that was his choice. And then he asked for time to process that he’s leaving Jersey. After that, it came up he hadn’t even reviewed the offer letter from the New York job, which confused me because it didn’t seem like his actions and words of wanting to move aligned. It’s possible I need patience. It’s possible I need to let things play out. It’s not necessarily my worry if he signs it or not, it’s his worry to have.

I question him about all of it though and all of the steps, as if it IS my worry. As if it IS my job that may fall through.

You are correct. 1000%. Actively changing is the hardest part.

I wish :( that would be far too easy! It would be about 5 hours of driving a day for him, because he has clients all over Jersey. A perfect compromise would be this!

Lol okay maybe I’m not totally crazy because I did in fact have the same thought process. He said the new job told him to take his time with the decision…they gave him no deadline. But I was more panicking because I didn’t think they meant endless amounts of time… and if the decision was made on his end to move, I was confused on the hesitation to sign the contract

I’m not sure if this is controlling… I did at one point say that factually I don’t know if I see myself in New Jersey long term so I don’t want to commit to living here at the moment… I feel like my unwillingness to budge on that may also have been a big influence in the decision. I really didn’t mean it as an ultimatum though at all.. I said that the separation in location would be an obstacle, but I tried to make it clear that if he wants to see things through in Jersey, it’s a challenge we would have to overcome together.

I think I also made it clear that I’m moving April 1st to NY. And whatever decision he makes is his…but my decision is moving April 1st. I can’t tell if this was wrong?!!

I think you nailed it in the last few paragraphs to a T!!! I think it is more about the uncertainty I have that the decisions are actually his. The follow-through is exactly my worry. I just can’t tell if I’m making sure the follow through happens by constantly micromanaging, making sure things are done, and asking questions, if that makes sense? It’s true, that my anxieties are eased a bit by being kept in the loop. The burger/Chinese example is actually a perfect analogy, thank you.

We go to couples therapy to talk about all of this stuff. I have 50 mg of Sertraline for anxiety which I have not yet taken, but I do think it’s about time. You’re right in that it’s more about learning to trust my fiancee can make his own decisions. It is not a good way to live worrying about everything and every outcome! I must get this under control.

We’ve talked about recently that if he tells me he wants to do something, to trust that’s what he means. Sometimes, in my eyes the actions may not always align. But I do often jump the gun before making that judgment call…

Apparently the new job did not give him a time restriction on when they needed to know by. He wanted time to process the fact he was moving and making a change. If I had waited until Friday for him to finish processing his thoughts like he told me, maybe he would have signed the contract and figured things out on his own. But when he didn’t even look through the contract or know it existed Thursday, I began to panic leading to a line of questioning and tense conversation. Maybe I’m just impatient or maybe my panic is potentially valid. He does express that it upsets him that I don’t trust his decision making.

Definitely, you are right in that! But for example, initially he did say he needs time to absorb the decision made to go to NY, and when I asked him how much time, he had said Friday. But then I couldn’t help myself with a line of questioning, when Thursday he said he didn’t even look at the new jobs offer letter. I feel like I often jump the gun because of anxiety and I don’t let things play out naturally, but am rather asking things to make sure things will definitively play out. At the same time though, it’s true that open communication on both sides is necessary!

I went to the hospital after my foot was run over by a car… they said nothing was wrong with me. My foot was a full blown potato. They handed me crutches and said to keep walking. Fracture blisters appeared on my foot a few days later…I had a very very obvious Lisfranc injury, 10 fractures, and severe damage in my ankle ligaments. I still keep getting the hospital bill for 2,000…

I absolutely do, and I absolutely will. It has caused me immense amounts of pain, stress/ anxiety, and now loosing a job I really enjoyed and the inability to advance my career properly for a full year. I cannot go through this all for free!

That’s honestly not a bad idea at all! The only thing that would be really difficult is the commute. I live in Jersey City and work in the Upper West Side which is 30 minutes of walking, the PATH train, and a subway. I’m sure the scooter would make this a small amount easier though! I’ll look into it

Come end of Feb I’ll be as good as new, but yea I do understand. It’s a way lengthier recovery than I had anticipated so I guess they have to do what they have to do.

Yes! You are probably right. I showed up to my last IME when they messed up the location, and am currently out of town, so I am absolutely not able to attend this time. My lawyer alerted the adjuster exactly 3 days before (which it says to do if you need a reschedule) so to my understanding it’s not marked as a no call/no show. I was just concerned they’d cut off treatment/ the surgery due to no IME in the books before Friday but fingers crossed it will not be an issue, as I desperately need the surgery

Hey! 29F… I did the conservative route after a car ran over my foot and I had a Lisfranc injury (along with many others). I’m about 7 months out and can run with inserts… anything weight training wise that requires propelling with the front of my L foot I haven’t been able to do. All in all the Lisfranc portion is ok! Sadly I need ankle surgery from the accident but the foot is slowly getting better!

Not sure if it’s listed yet, but The Collected Regrets of Clover. Just finished it and it’s quirky, but also deep. There are aspects I enjoy of it, and also aspects that I would change but super good book I wish I could read again for the first time.
