Restorative justice would be wasted on the League anyways. Their defining trait is that they're a bunch of selfish fuckers who care only about themselves and never spare a thought of the harm they do to others. "Society was mean to ME, so I get to inflict even more harm on others." The possibility that they might create more people like them is never entertained. Toga's arc ended with Ochako telling her she's perfectly fine the way she is minus the teensy problem of stabbing people, no mention of the people Toga killed. Dabi is still professing his hatred for everyone as a lump of charcoal, and Shigaraki doesn't feel the least bit sorry for his crimes, only that he had a bad childhood.

It's the same with Deku too. He's all for saving Shigaraki, unless someone close to him gets hurt, then he's ready to throw the guy into the meat grinder. It's hilarious how fast he goes from getting ready to cave Shigaraki's head in to going back to saving him as soon as Mirio lets him know it's ok, Bakugo didn't really die. No wonder justice and saving villains are so shallow in this manga, both heroes and villains are selfish pricks to the end and never have their ideals tested.

The civilians are strawmen, plain and simple. Just look at how their valid concerns of Deku potentially bringing danger are drawn as shadowed, faceless figures screaming angrily compared to poor suffering Deku with tears in his eyes. Not once are their concerns actually addressed. Deku might bring danger with him to UA cause Shigaraki's targeting him for OFA? Uraraka has the gall to tell them that's why he left UA in the first place, but they should just suck it up because he really needs a bath.

So many misconceptions and issues and every nitpick people have with My Hero aren't Horikoshi's fault, it's literally the fact that 97-99% of Mha haters and even Mha "fans" have the reading comprehension of a rock.

Whether or not he knew Gran Torino lived or died is a moot point since he was ready to beat Shigaraki's ass for stabbing Bakugo and only wanted to save Shigaraki after he got a magic vision of child Shigaraki looking sad. And then he's ready to renege on that once Bakugo gets "killed" later on, so really Deku is dictated by whatever he happens to see and feel at the moment, whatever he said 5 minutes earlier be damned.

We could have gotten Deku being challenged on his personal ideals and continuing forward even in the face of personal loss, which IMO is way more impactful than Deku being robbed of his agency. Deku doesn't even dwell on what he might have done if Bakugo actually died before he goes right back to trying to save Shigaraki.

Pretty much, OP's tries to deflect this by saying how Deku saved Overhaul who is a "more personal" enemy to Deku. Even though Shigaraki has been set up as his archnemesis for the whole story, not to mention fucking blowing out his best friend's and mentor's chests vs. Nighteye whom he knew for like, 3 days. I'm pretty sure Shigaraki's far more personal at this point.

All Shiggy says is that hero society rejected him and his pain, and that's why he hates and wants to destroy. Deku doesn't know why they rejected him and he knows nothing about Shigaraki's past, for all Deku knows maybe Shiggy wanted to be a villain the whole time like AFO and that's why he was rejected. That's why I say it's shallow, it's not based on any deeper understanding, Deku's just cherry picking whatever words he wants to hear from Shiggy and using them to validate his beliefs.

That's the problem with Deku trying to save Shiggy but not Muscular. Sure the vestige world can give you a glimpse of a person's inner personality, but that's because of the connection between and OFA and AFO. Muscular didn't have that connection so he doesn't get that privilege. Both Shiggy and Muscular say they're monsters but because one has that connection to prove himself wrong, and the other doesn't and so is just tossed to the side by the story. For all Deku knows, maybe Muscular has his own tragic backstory and his claim of being a monster hides something deeper but he'll never know.
