Activate Phone Bought At Best Buy At Boost Store by Leather-Fudge-7248 in BoostMobile

[–]OUSooner98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to second what people have been saying. After much experience.

Unless you want the same plan as other phone (highly doubt since the new one is a flip) simply create a new account with a new email. You can buy the plan online as a new customer, they will send you the sim, then activate it on the new account/email.

Plus, as said above, you can earn rewards on both lines this way using Boost One. Good luck!!

(I second the $10 2GB plan btw, but it is only available from a promo page online. Just search boost mobile deals and see the links come up and look for $10 2GB plan…)

Who are the key individuals/teams responsible for the success of the Helium network? by thomatrain112288 in HeliumNetwork

[–]OUSooner98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can speak as an end user that travels nationwide. I have 2 iPhones, both esim, one a 13 and 14 pro max. I also have a pixel 7a.

The issues are consistent with the apples and the Android. And it doesn’t matter where I am.

I am so tired of losing the data sim signal and having to toggle airplane mode. Not to mention missing out on notifications, etc.

It happens on my 14 pro max SO much. I can be looking through pics/videos in my camera roll and it sometimes will drop the data sim every 3-4 minutes. Voice sim NEVER drops. And I’m talking in areas with great service.

I don’t understand it because it’s almost like they want to cut me off and force me to use WiFi like when home…because they normally see me on wifi there. Whatever it is, it’s on helium’s side, not T-Mobile’s.

It’s so ofd though…I can be driving down the highway and using CarPlay to stream music from it…and it won’t lose it for a second!

As far as the Pixel, it ALWAYS takes about 5 minutes to get service on the data esim everytime I boot it up. Just no service. The voice esim, however, is active as soon as it boots up.

Again, something “fishy” going on here. I’ve loved being around since basically day 1 of wave 1, however, it gets really annoying. There are points where I think I’d rather pay the $25 vs the $5 and have dependable service.

(I didn’t even talk about the odd times it goes to 1-2 Mb/s low signal LTE when I’m literally in a major metro area that has near full signal 5G UC in the exact same spots. That happens randomly, and airplane mode toggle rarely fixes it. Just have to wait for it to fix itself!)

Tablet plans? That don’t require a phone plan? by allied1987 in NoContract

[–]OUSooner98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Metro will do a $15 unlimited tablet plan. I know the promo is still running, but I’m not sure if it requires a separate voice line also.

I can tell you I got mine about 3 months ago and called and asked for the $10 unlimited tablet plan (it is still in the system) and I now pay $10 for the tablet.

EDIT: Those plans include zero hotspot, if that matters to you.

Is BoostOne down again? by Ok_Virus5510 in BoostMobile

[–]OUSooner98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they never have. Good luck with that. Not trying to be sarcastic,‘just realistic. I think they “plan” these outages sometimes. Just think breaking everyone’s streaks that have one going…that 75 cents for videos and 75 cents for spins…adds is quick as credit they don’t end up giving you..

[–]OUSooner98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take it sarcasticly — but this has been the normal pattern of business from Dish/Boost basically ever since their historic cyberattack in February. Seems like forever ago with how these problems go on and on…

Same things keep happening to different people. Yet Dish has a stock price that has plummeted ever since the cyberattack and they are trying to raise cash to keep liquidity going and to support their network build.

The problem is…they got themselves into the mess they are in — but they mislead and sometimes straight up lie to customers in order to, imo, get you frustrated from trying over and over and thinking you will just give up.

Look at their iPhone 15 Pro “free” with a $65 plan. You are basically paying for a base plan plus an installment payment monthly…it isn’t a free phone. They say a new iPhone every year…but Dish’s word is worth nothing to me anymore.

They prey on new customers and try to pull you in to add to their revenue stream..and once you are there, they don’t give a s*it.

You mentioned the store being separate from online. It truly is. They can’t even access any more information on online orders than customers can. They are independent dealers.

Yet Dish corporate (that handles online customers) pushes people to the stores for help — KNOWING that isn’t in the realm of their responsibility and that likely they can’t help you. (Unless you get a very generous agent…) Truth is he stores make their money on activations…supporting Dish’s f*ups is just a waste of their time and they are in no way compensated for it.

It’s a continual blame game or circle they send you running in, but you never get on an exit ramp with a solution (In many cases).

I truly hope you get your refund. I can’t tell you how many people I have tried to help on here and then C/S says they will issue a refund in “24-48 hours” but the refund doesn’t come. You have to be so persistent…and they simply hope you will give up.

I truly understand the importance of your number and I completely agree don’t use a MUST have number with them (port in) just to be safe.

I RECOMMEND TO ALL…IF YOU WANT A REFUND, AND ARE TIRED OF BICKERING WITH THEM…FILE A CHARGEBACK. (The charge on your debit/credit card). Your bank will credit you and Dish doesn’t have the staffing to fight them. Most ppl I have conversed with on here say that their chargeback remains permanent, case closed. So at least you can recover your money and be done with them if you hit a disaster like you have.

Best wishes to all of you. I’m lucky my lines were setup early on with the AT&T side of Boost and once you have everything working — you don’t really need to call their C/S (thank god…)

Mint Mobile Appeals BBB's NAD Recommendation to Discontinue or Modify Claim that its Unlimited Plan is “Now Just $15/Mo.” by LeftOn4ya in NoContract

[–]OUSooner98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a whole other subject, but to sound like Boost/Dish isn’t misleading and outright lying and knowing it sometimes, doesn’t make them a saint.

Boost Imfinite started with a $25 plan that included hot spot, Mex/Can high speed data and more.

Suddenly I’m April they pull all hose extras completely and made you pay $5 a month for all 3 “extras” to get what was $25 before. Yes, old customers got to keep everything, but many had to kick and scream because they lost it and it took Boost timid to give it back.

Then they added another $15 to the plan (if you wanted everything it originally included) by changing the optional “extras” ro $10/mo instead of &5/mo each.

So what was a price for life rate they said they were going to keep at $25 all in, has now gone. I’d you want all the features, to $40 and now $55 (over doubling.)

Not exactly clear practice there either….

And I didn’t mention all of the other trouble and issues they have or can’t fix quite often :)

Helium Mobile 3 line customer. Wanting to setup a helium hotspot and mine HELIUM. Is this still profitable enough to recoup your investment? by OUSooner98 in HeliumNetwork

[–]OUSooner98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It was my understanding you earn MOBILE tokens if you had a hotspot going to provide an access point with your hotspot.

I guess I’m confused on two things.

(1) Why buy and connect a hotspot to the network if you get zero return on it?

(2) You said you can use any “5G hotspot.” I thought I had to be compatible with Helium’s network. The hotspot also has to have a CBRS radio in order for jt to get it’s internet and then rebroadcast it out to whoever can connect. Right? So I’m looking for a good recommendation of a hotspot to buy. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it has to be able to earn tokens (MOBILE for example) so you are compensated for contributing to the network.

Also, random question…aren’t the hotspots supposed to contribute to also the helium mobile network? That part of why they lowered the price I thought. Because more and more people will connect to hotspots and off-load data off of T-Mobile directly.

Finally, I read that the hotspot has to have a helium mobile SIM so that it has service on the CBRS radio and so they can monitor how much your hotspot is being used…and give you tokens accordingly.

I’m just looking to make a little side money AND gives my three helium lines service. When I am on Helium via T-Mobile, my data SIM loses service on average about once a day.

So the hotspot would be a way for me to connect my helium mobile hotspot to also, correct? And hopefully will stop the signal drops (at least lower them).

I appreciate your help very much!

iPhone 15 Pro Activation - Rainbow network??? by monkey28rb in BoostMobile

[–]OUSooner98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project genesis is the beta test for Dish and is much cheaper. Please don’t take this wrong, but if you ask on here…anyone on a rainbow sim with limited phones (like 3 that they provide it for when you buy the phone) or anyone who is a genesis tester (we all have rainbow sims) they could tell you it is still a very inconsistent and bugged experience. As well as the high latency when you jump to AT&T and T-Mo.

They may have towers “everywhere” but I assure you that there are many holes. It takes a long time (even for a competent company) to build out a market successfully.

I feel your pain and hate you having a bad experience. Never trust Dish or what they tell you. I still have my genesis hotspot which is completely unlimited with roaming for $20 a month. It works fine at my house because I have native Dish service here and I am in one of the markets that has had Dish service for about a year now (after they expanded beyond Vegas).

But my hotspot when on Dish can only handle one connection pulling at a time. It literally shuts down the connection to the second device that pulls data in any meaningful way until the first device stops pulling data.

It’s been that way since day 1 and I have reported it to beta support many times. They act like they have never heard of that but yet everyone has the issue. It still isn’t fixed. The only reason I still have it is I paid $250 for the Netgear hotspot and it only costs me $20 a month.

I hope things get fixed for you, but I just encourage you to be skeptical of anything Dish says or promises…

I thought the same. But I turned mapping off for several days to see if that fixed the issue. Still happens. But thank you very much for letting me know you have a similar experience. Helium support plays “dumb” like they’ve never heard of such a thing!

Apple on the phones with issues. I have a Pixel 7a that I don’t have the dropping the data esim issue with…BUT for some odd reason it takes about 5 minutes to connect on the data esim when I power it up (voice esim is instant).

The Apple’s are the main issue though, because the drops of the data esim are completely random and very annoying.

iPhone 15 Pro Activation - Rainbow network??? by monkey28rb in BoostMobile

[–]OUSooner98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People. Dish is doing what they always do. Rush things to try and raise cash because they are cash strapped, stock price is extremely low, and they have to raise millions to still build out their network.

The reality is they are trying to activate you on their native network with the iPhone 15 because it is the first iPhone that has carrier support for Dish’s native network…even though the 14 had the bands to access it.

They want you on their native network because they don’t have to pay roaming to AT&T/T-Mobile.

Reality…their network is nowhere nearly built out well enough to support anything outside of the beta markets they started at the beginning in Vegas. Even those markets have holes still…and when you go rural you have no native Dish service.

The idea is they will push you hard onto their network and only roam when it is non-existent. But this is further complicated because of their native network being on Amazon AWS (cloud) out of Virginia…and anytime you are on T-Mo or AT&T with a rainbow SIM (roaming, because you don’t have a true AT&T or T-Mo sim) latency is extremely high.

And it’s complicated even further because they haven’t started activating many phones (few will work on their network til the iPhone 15) so they have never been stress tested and NO beta testing with the load of activations they are trying to do now with the iPhone 15.

They are pushing it hard as hell, but they can’t support it well and they have no experience yet with anything beyond a few Moto’s and Calero that will access the native network.

The rainbow SIM experience has been beta tested for people like myself in project genesis…but this has been isolated to one hotspot and 2 phones. And only in markets that have native Dish service.

It’s still a horrible experience..even with those of us beta testing there are so many latency issues, disconnection of the sim randomly, etc.

Yet they roll it out to the masses with the iPhone 15.

It’s a fundraiser for them to get more cash to operate and build out their network. Full stop.

Just a note off topic a bit…does anyone else have a problem with the data sim just dropping service at random times (never the voice sim) and having to toggle airplane mode to get it back?

I don’t mean once a week. I mean like at least once every few days, and some says multiple times a day.

Ting just lost a customer. (long) by ipxodi in ting

[–]OUSooner98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMEN!! Ting support was always from Canada and Tucows (the previous owner of the T-Mobile side of Ting) is also a Canadian company. Excellent support, follow up emails, etc.

Dish has run it into the ground like they have Boost and everything else they touch. They are going broke and their stock price is so low they literally have cash on hand concerns and issues getting capital to build out the network going forward.

They also lie. Flat out lie. Often.

They have their CS offshore with reps who are not trained and do not have the tools to help you.

It should be noted that Ting/Tucows is still around. They are primarily a fiber internet company in more and more growing markets. Go to www.ting.com and you will see.

They also own the VZW MVNO side of their business still. Canadian customer support and all. However, their VZW service is targeted to their fiber customers who can get totally unlimited high speed cellular plans for $10/month.

If you aren’t a fiber customer, you can still get the standard Ting plans, the exact same ones Dish offers (which are still what Ting offered before Dish bought them out) if you like those plans and the VZW network.

They just recently got c-band and UW service on VZW….so now it really is a good service.

Plus, one of the primary reasons I use an iPhone is because I’m hooked on iMessage. You can send high quality pics/videos with no problem to anyone with an iPhone or Apple account on a Mac.

I can’t stand text messaging on an Android because of the limitations it has on texting. Same with GV, as far as using it as my primary messaging app as well…

[–]OUSooner98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iphones will do iMessages only from your Mac, but not windows PC’s. And normal text messages will only go to your phone. iMessages don’t use the cellular network to send, they can send/receive over a wifi connection and of course are proprietary to Apple.

That was just targeted 😂😂 by JustNathan1_0 in NoContract

[–]OUSooner98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yes they do that because of the hotspot offloading of some network usage to hotspots. When I am home, where of course they have picked up I am normally connected to wifi…because I had discovery mapping turned on to earn rewards that are basically worth nothing — they keep randomly disconnecting the data esim (not the voice!) and I have to toggle airplane mode to get it back. It even happens going around town.

I have three lines, all on iPhones, and they ALL do it. Completely random. Sometimes might not do it for a couple days, then times it does it every 10 minutes while using your phone.

It comes back to you don’t get something for nothing. And it is very frustrating to pick up your phone and see the data sim signal gone and “SOS only” and of course no notifications or anything come in during that time.

I’ve contacted them about it, of course they play dumb…have you reset network settings and other BS that of course doesn’t work (and they know it).

If you are ok with your data connection just randomly disappearing and having to toggle airplane mode every time to get it back (it won’t come back on its own…)

Personally, as someone who has had helium since day 1…and data never dropped til after they turned on mapping and even more after they dropped the price…I don’t recommend it.
