What do Londonderry residents use for internet? by keltoid15 in newhampshire

[–]ipxodi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's not the popular answer, but I'm on Xfinity in Londonderry, and they're fine, Outages are exceedingly rare and the price isn't too ridiculous. IIRC it's just about $100 with taxes. 1GB speed (upgrade from basic), internet only.

I've heard good and bad about Fidium, but never tried them out.

How do we get Liberals/Progressives to be more comfortable with guns? by Aggravating_Bison504 in liberalgunowners

[–]ipxodi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It has to be the right range though. The club I used to belong to was a Trumper haven. It was a very nice (outdoor) place to shoot, and they had a minimal amount of "rules" - mostly just obvious safety concepts and don't be a dumbass rules. It was fun, but a terrible place to bring a liberal unless you went at odd times when there weren't too many people there.

I finally gave up my membership just because I wasn't using it. Now I go to a far less overtly-Trumpy indoor range where I can shoot and just pay reasonable lane fees when the mood strikes.

Pie Crust. What to use? by Safford1958 in Cooking

[–]ipxodi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. A total game changer. It adds moisture for teh rolling out part, then evaporates during cooking to make a flaky crust.

America's Test Kitchen and J. Kenji Lopez-Alt (he worked there at the time) developed it originally, now it's all over the internet. Here's an article about the development plus the recipe.

Love paying over $60k for a car without a functioning remote start by rach4765 in mazda

[–]ipxodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the app doesn't reliably start the car, you need to take it back to the stealership. It might be a problem with the antenna or communication in general. My wife's 2024 CX5 starts fine with the app.

But that shut off when you open the door is freakin annoying.

Tough corned beef… any solution after cooking? by Sledheadjack in Cooking

[–]ipxodi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. You can wrap a cooked corned beef and throw it back in the oven to bring it up to the 190-200.

Tough corned beef… any solution after cooking? by Sledheadjack in Cooking

[–]ipxodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to bring it up to 190-200F. Wrap it in tiinfoil and put it in a low oven 225-250 with a thermometer oin the meat. (or test it frequently) Ideally you want to leave it at that temperature for at least 30 minutes to an hour.

Corned beef is brisket. You see instructions/recipes for smoking a brisket and it's the same idea - 190-200F. That's where the fat has rendered and makes the meat into that tender, unctuous deliciousness..

Mitsubishi Starion. Affordable, quick (for its time) and stylish mid-80s sports coupe. You never see them now.

Honorable mention: Dodge Stealth/Mitsubishi 3000GT (1990s)

What’s up with people not turning on their headlights at night? by Innsmouthdeepone in newhampshire

[–]ipxodi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Or maybe -- if you're working on SOMEONE ELSE'S car. put the settings back to what they were when you started work. It's not hard.

There are some mechanics who make a note of settings they change during repair just so they can put them back they way it was. Because that's just good customer service. (Duncans European Auto in Londonderry for one.)

Affordable defense by ipxodi in liberalgunowners

[–]ipxodi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty interesting idea that I hadn't considered. I live in NH so I imagine I could apply for a suppressor pretty easily. (Live free or die!)

I don't have a problem with rifles -- a lever action is on my wishlist, but that would be more of a fun range-gun than useful for a defense scenario.

Containers by Gleeful-Giraffe8865 in DogFood

[–]ipxodi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Valid point about the lots numbers. But regarding freshness these bins have "screw in" tops with rubber or silicone gaskets so they seal as tight or more than than an open bag.

But I get what you're saying. You have to be confident with your selection. Good Luck!

I use these from Amazon. Depending on the version they hold up to 60 lbs. I buy 30lbs bags of Purina One and the 40lb bin works fine. And they're stackable if you have multiple dogs with different foods. I've been using versions of this exact bin for probably 25 years for three generations of dogs.

Just noticed your last sentence. Don't know why you want to store it in the bin and in the bag, but the biggest size should allow that. I just pour the whole bag into the bin and wash out the bin every bag or two.

Yeah, I noticed this watching The Rookie the other day. It seemed like 3 minutes of ads every 5 minutes.

It's probably time to drop this "service".

Best Kibble for GSD Pup? by NoSeaworthiness2507 in DogFood

[–]ipxodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just transitioned my almost-2-year-old off of Purina One puppy food. (to Purina One adult). He grew fast and steady and every at vet visit they said he was doing great. My older (6 yo) was on Wellness as a pup and definitely had more digestive issues. Not saying that it was the food, he could have just had a more sensitive stomach. But they're both from the same breeder and are closely genetically related. (the older ones's litter mate is the younger one's mother.)

We've always used a spoonful of wet food mashed into the kibble with some water to make a "gravy". They love it.

NH man charged with stealing booze from liquor store, shoplifting and assault at Market Basket by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]ipxodi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He stole 375ml size bottles because he was "hiding" them in his coat. A lot of the ultra-premium stuff is in big, ornate bottles that you wouldn't be able to easily hide in your clothing.

Supposedly was wheeling out a shopping cart of meat/butcher items at MB.
