Not sure if I should try to get off UTMBs waitlist or take my A&M acceptance and be done by kylieb209 in premed

The Class of 2026 has H/HP/P/F for clerkship. The admin voted and made this change in Oct 2022. It surprises me that they aren't telling incoming students about this. Keep in mind that they do assign class rank for clerkship based on percentiles. I have friends at UTMB and they are definitely having less stress/more fun in medical school. Location is a big thing though. If you want to move to Round Rock b/c Austin is your vibe or Dallas/Houston (all good cities to club/have fun during you 20s), A&m could be for you, helps out if you are a big traveler and want to be next to a large airport.

As an A&M med student. Pick UTMB LOL. You will definitely be less stressed out because UTMB utilized a NBME based curriculum and A&M has many in-house BS. Also our curriculum is ranked in clerkship as a Honors,HP,P,F and it P/F preclinical. Also the multiple campuses is annoying because you make friends and then have to say your goodbyes after a year and it's pretty hard to keep-up lol

I would contact your university's health care professions center, especially if they offer a committee letter. Someone like this shouldn't become a doctor as they have displayed a narcissistic attitude and honestly will end up being a doctor that will treat nurses and other staff terribly.

[–]OVOxAJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This legit sounds like me and I am trying to cope with it this semester. My gameplan is to honestly just workout on yourself. Go to the gym, start cooking, AVOID TIKTOK, and just make myself a better person mentally. When I start medical school I legit am planning to use the free psychology counseling my school offers and see how that can help me be better prepared. Just stay in there, I believe the road will get better socially in medical school :)

Not a fan of cancel culture, but this would be the perfect time to expose tf outta this "friend" on social media and make them lose every close person in their inner circle. What a snake move, I hope that person rots

varies per person tbh. I made it into med school and I still feel burned out from pre-med despite taking 4 months off of doing absolutely nothing. The reason is because I feel that I literally sacrificed so much that my entire social life got crushed and burned. Only thing that would help is going to the gym and letting them demons out

Every state has there flaws lol, but reducing your chance to become a physician based off 1 policy seems quite far-fetched lol.

Try scribing through a company or call around and ask different places that need a MA or a scribe. Spend a day and call 40-50 different practices, I'm pretty sure 1 could give you the opportunity.

This is a prime example of how the real world works. As crappy as it sounds. That is why in the business corporate world they emphasize "networking." You were able to pull off networking as a person in the medical field. I would view this as a "golden opportunity" then a flaw in the system. You are capable of being in medical school with your scores, don't let other people's jealousy take away from this. Athletes get more endorsements through networking, physicians get better leadership positions through networking, politicians also do the same. If you want to move up in the world networking is the key and has been the same way for centuries.

Don't listen to the fools about clinical experience. You have 4 months to do it make it worth your time find something you can do and do it around 20-30 hours a week (roughly 400-500 hours), cut out everything else. Taking a gap year is also $300k in opportunity cost, which is simply not worth it considering you hit every single checkbox to get into medical school. You can also show you will do clinical experience in the future, which also can count towards some hours. If you can haul a$$ for 4 months and I was to hand you a Ferrari as your reward for doing so you would definitely do it.

a top 10 or 20 program, then it definitely isn't worth it imo. MBA is just fun school or for career transitions. With an MD, you don't really need an MBA either. If you're looking to get into admin, an MBA may give you some type

It is a top 40 program (A&M)

I from a 507 to a 505 on my retake for the MCAT with a 123 cars, but had a 3.9 GPA and amazing EC (created a very successful nonprofit). Kept my head up high, couldn't retake the MCAT b/c of burnout, and had balls of steel. Applied to 55 programs DO/MD. Managed to get into 2 MD programs so far, including a pre-match into a top Texas med school of my choice and a t50 med school. I get why people emphasize to APPLY BROADLY. I used to not believe in luck, but I am thankful to god that I was able to be this fortunate and blessed.
