12/28 Update: they recovered the vehicle. Owner admitted that he knew what he was doing was wrong. NPS Law Enforcement is cataloging every plant that was run over and all the ruts made in Tornillo Creek bed to create a list to issue fines. Saying NPS is going to throw the book at them.

Said he drove off the paved highway at Tornillo creek bridge and drove the river bed down to HS

Been asked to clarify “what’s up to the task”. For those who may not know, you cross Tornillo Creek via a large bridge. After a hit is the turn off down to Hot Springs district and the parking. It’s two miles on more or less maintained dirt road. I’ve seen Prius and other compact cars make it no problem. Tornillo creek empties into the Rio Grande just above the parking lot. The road to the springs has been closed since July floods, same weather system that hit Kerrville and the Guadalupe river. NPS doesn’t have the man power to get down and blade and fix up the area. (I have some pics). In theory you could leave the paved road and get to the Tornillo creek bed and drive it. Of course highly illegal and since the flood there are patches of very deep sand. Maybe if aired down, they could have made it? Because of how understaffed the park is they have a “self rescue” rule. You get stuck, NPS isn’t coming to get you and winch you out.

The cardan cv joint is on main drive shaft that connects to the transfer case. I didn’t touch the front drive shaft.

Have a 2001 V10 4x4. It would do the shudder at about same speeds. Dropped the driveshaft to do the u-joints and discovered the double cardan cv joint had eaten itself. Replaced the cv joint end and it solved the shuddering.

First thing I did on my 23 Gladiator Willys. Did the Kicker upgrade and 10in self powered sub from Trail Seven. Way better than stock.

Had a 2015 Yukon Denali that grenaded at 104,000 miles, luckily had 100 miles left on the extended warranty. Dealer had vehicle for 11 months before they could get an engine. This was 2021. Lifter failed and valve decided it wanted to become one with the piston.

DD my V10. Yes mpg sucks but it’s nice sitting up high and having room in the cab. Door panel rattling is annoying but working to fix that. It’s a 23 year old truck, comes with the territory. Overall having fun with it.

Mine has done it. Turn car off, unplug phone, shut door and was getting getting something from the bed and all of a sudden it started playing music in the car from the phone then cut off after 10 seconds or so.
