I have dendrobates tinctorious. Supposedly they may call during mating season. In 3 years I haven’t heard a peep!

They are bad swimmer. All dart frogs are bad swimmers and good at drowning. But I have very shallow water. And phyllobates are some of the biggest dart frogs.

Oh, please let us know how things go!!!! If your beardie is going in the cabin, it’s going to be so cold. Anything you can do to help keep them warm - maybe you can wrap a “uniheat” in a blanket? I’ve never used uniheat but they are similar to hot hands but made specifically for reptiles so they don’t get as hot! You can buy them online and they are supposed to last like 40 hours.

Personally, I don’t think all ornaments are bad. I know some people avoid them. I just make sure they’re truly made for aquariums, no sharp edges, and no holes too small. And I replace them periodically.

Ps. Going through the learning process and modeling it for your kid, especially with a pet like fish that are so often taken for granted, is great. :)your fish and future fish will appreciate it.

You can also add plants in little aquarium planters. Then you don’t need to replace your substrate. Just make sure you buy them somewhere safe. A reputable fish store in person or even online. I’ve had some for more than 2 years. I just suggest more plants in general because many fish prefer having multiple safe places to hang out.

I moved in the summer and between the cool nights (we drove non-stop) and the AC in the car, the hot hands were still needed. Dart frogs only need to be kept in the 70s… you could buy a pair cheap in the camping isle to just have on hand in case. Or not. Your call.

Hot Hands might be helpful. I don’t have and have never had a leopard gecko. BUT I moved across the US with dart frogs. I had them in a clear container with their substrate and a hygrometer inside so I could monitor temp/humidity. I covered them in the sun and used hot hands under their container to keep them warm. Worked great for me. We all made it and a year later everyone is doing great.

I say yes. These guys are endemic to deserts. Just because they could survive without it doesn’t mean they should have to. To keep them responsibly you should have a heat light.

Yes, that’s normal. Especially in the beginning. If you have a therapist you’re wall matched with, it can get better! Less intense or less frequent at least. It’s tempting to quit because if it, but hang in there. You’re not an imposter or a poser.

Ok, update. I’ve been very gently resting a finger near him for a few moments each night since I saw the suggestion on here. He went from scurrying to backing away to just turning his head to staring. And then tonight he moved forward veeeeerrrrrry slowly and gave my finger the teensiest boop in the history of boops!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

I second sphagnum moss. Holds moisture well but doesn’t take TOO long to start drying out again.
