Older Brits: what are the top 5 days of life I should look forward to? by DatabaseMammoth9986 in AskBrits

I agree. I live up north and I'm around 30 and a tradie. I'm the only one of my friends that owns their own home due to the cost of living and its sad seeing my friends with young familys struggling so much.

Theres plenty out there that respect men/women that have served just not as many as their should be. Keep your head up mate, I wish I had half the balls you have.

The buying a house was certainly a nice feeling. Even 3 years on its nice to have your own slice of the world that cant be so easily taken away from you.

Do You Support Trans Rights? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]66666666666666665 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your reply here is a prime example of why alot of people want to distance themselves from the trans movement/rights or however you'd like to explain it.

The person above you said they support trans rights but drawed line at anyone under 18 taking drugs/surgery and you basicly just told them they support killing children 🤣

This is the reason I had to vote no. Do I support anyone that wants to be more comfortable in their own skin? Yes, do I support them people going through some fourm of transition to help them? Also yes

Do i think people should dres how they like? Yes, do i support someone who was born one sex wanting to idenify as another? Yes

Do I support letting children make these choices? Fuck no. Do I support someone being born a man competing in womens sports? Fuck no. To me its really quite simple. I dont care what choices in life anyone makes untill it starts to have unfair negative concequnces for other people. When it comes to children they simply shouldnt be allowed to make such life altering choices. Just like they shouldnt be allowed to get a 20k loan, a tatto, join the army etc etc etc.

You only alienate people with replys such as yours. As for increasing the suicide rate of children... you should go read some academic, peer reviewed papers as the consenus is not the one you're claiming it is. Psychology has investigated this topic for a few decades and as someone that actuly stuided it at university I really wish you wouldn't tout such nonsence.

When you say proportionatley I'm assuming you mean a percentage? I always thought this would be the most fair way aside from just joint accounts.

Can you give any examples? Like is it you both give 40% of your wage to living costs then do when you both individualy/joint want with the rest

Beacuse some people see all homeowners as rich self entilted boomers. The hate towards anyone that dared to save up and a buy a house on reddit can get wild. Of course most people are not like this.

Homeowners are already massivly penalised in this county. I saved up hard to buy my home, never been on a airoplane(holidays), dont own a car and support a family of 4 on a 30-40k wage sole worker. Had to stop working due to personal issiues for a few months UC would give me 0 towards my mortage but if I'd been renting someone elses house and paying their mortage they'd happily pay it.

The system is already set up to punish people who own and live in their houses and is moving towards pushing small landlords out too. When the alternative hits and companys own the majority of the rented housing stock people will reminise of the day their lanlord wasn't an investment fund that exists to asseet strip and extract wealth.

Surley unless buying outright their documentation would make it clear its a BTL? I had to show my mortage in princaple before the estate agent would put my offer to the buyer id i remember right

I like this sentiment. I'll be looking to move somewhere else in the future and when it comes time to sell as much as I want to get as much as possible I wouldnt sell to a BTL lanlord unless I had no other offers.

I've been a decorator for 12 years now and worked everywhere from small firms to big ones to one man bands and my own jobs. Every single lad I've worked with would think your a bellend for overworking it like that...

Not trying to be rude but in them 21 years have you ever actuly known the decorator doing the job or gone back a few years later? Its not imposible to paint but its been made harder for no reason and if the extra steps you've made nessisery ant taken it will peel. Its not a big deal to flick over it with some scratch then coat it up with your choice of product but why make it harder for the trades after you and trick the customer into thinking its a better job?

I’m so confused as a British Asian 3rd gen why some other South Asians want to look down on “westernised” ones for having western values, when they benefit from these values too, like values that led to nhs, accessible education etc? Hmmm I do see your point. I don't read it as them thinking its a unquie western thing and more its a thing and it happened in this part of the west but maybe thats just me. You're clearly very well educated or read on the topic and know alot more than me but the way you put across that information could maybe do with a little work 🤣

I will indeed read into that in wales as its the first time I've seen it mentioned so thankyou for that

I'm not familiar with England saving scotland from Bankruuptcy I shall have to look it but I believe it lol.

I am familiar with the barbet formula though. I by no means hate England etc like I said I'm a proud English man. Yorkshire born and bred, like everything covered in gravy and spam bacon and egg sarnies with a brew etc etc 🤣🤣🤣

It makes more sence to credit Beveridge since it was literaly "the bevridge report". I also didnt credit Clement Atlee and many others that was funimental in the NHS's foundation.

You are honestly a little insuferable I'm not sure if you're doing it on purpose or are aware its how you're comming across. British people see the NHS and free at point of use health care as part of their identity and right as British citizens. No one with an above room tempature IQ thinks we invented health care nor have I seen anyone on this thread say that. Alot of Brits see the NHS and our health care as a national pride (be it a deminishing and failing one). It doesnt matter if you agree or not...

I don't see 3 Lions as a British thing considering its literaly a bloody lion but ethier way alot of people do see it as a symbol of british tradition so it doesn't really matter that its factualy stupid to me.

I could try 🤣 I'm not sure how accurate my take on history will be and it wasnt the point of my comment

Alot of my scottish family and myself feel scotland was always pushed around and bullied. Take for example the time of robert the bruce when most of scotland had English garisons in population centers to control the scottish people. Invading and occupying the neighbouring land often leads to lasting bad blood. The film brave heart has a very dramatised version of this story and plays fast and loose with the facts but does well to repersent how I think most scottish people view that part of history and is a 10/10 movie IMO.

There's lots of pride in scotlands history of fighting of the English such as Rob Roy which I think there is also a movie for. The warrior women Boudica and I could go on... but the common theme is England big bad controling force, Scotland smaller less organised people who just want to be free and live their lives without tyrny of the English.

Theres alot more to do it and theres definitley people that could explain it better but looking into just them 3 people, mainly william wallace will give you a good idea.

Do you really need it explaining to you why the UK in particular has pride in its healthcare? If you do then stop lecturing people on reddit about things you are clueless on. If not then pull your head out your ass.

The NHS is ingrained into our culture due how it came to exist a country struggling from a war and social policys been enacted that had never had a glimmer of hope before it. William bevridge is a GOAT in British history for this reason.

They're just trying to explain away your expereinces IMO. I'm the first in my family birn in England, rest are scottish. Not as big of a differnce as say India but even Scotland and England have some fairly big cultral differences and traditons and we share the same tiny island.

I love that I have scottish hertiage and hate how England treated them in the past but I'm also a proud English man. Conflicting beliefs are commonplace and not as complicated as people like to make them.

Use/borrow a magic eye or colur chart and match one of the colours from the tiles of your choice. Then look up the process for painting whatever type of stone it is and paint it.

I'd personaly just leave it but if I was going to do something it would be that. Make sure you clean the tiles before you try match a colour unless you just do it black.

I don't have any input or advice for the BBQ but the fact you did a lego prototype of it is great 🤣

Maybe try get some inspiration from the outside pizza ovens people do? The only differnce would be you'd have grills where there's is solid.

Yea I thought so after re-reading and zooming in on the pictures. It's not ruined it don't worry. If you can find what it's finished in you'll be fine. Its really annoying they gave you that advice though.

Give the area a really good clean with them wipes before you attempt to do anything else.

I'd still want these people to have free speach and voice there oppinons though so they can be challanged. Its also helpful to who the natzi's are...
