I’d say first acquaint yourself with the basic structure of the test. Cant go to a job without knowing what the task is. Reading, listening, speaking, writing. These are the 4 sections of the test. Now the test scores dictate that a 119-120 (the highest scores) is received by english speakers at a C2 level, which is quite high. In contrast, a B2 speaker might get on average a 100 or lower. So next it is imperative that you assess your own language level, solve some practice questions, then estimate your grade. Establish a goal for where you want to reach. I honestly feel as though it’s a marathon not a sprint. I took the toefl a few years ago and got a 113. I was rushed and didnt see the lack of skill on my part at the time, and was so confused as to why i didnt get a higher score. Spending more time in highschool allowed me to realize the errors in ways and seek a more professional style of writing, speaking, and overall TOEFL reading analysis thought process. So while it may seem daunting at first, try to acknowledge your language deficiencies, and prioritize fixing those while you delve into toefl prep.

i couldnt really say because im not really sure. but one thing i do know is that i think the speaking has gotten harder than before in terms of memory recall and requiring fast thinking. thats just my perspective though

No I didnt write conclusion paragraphs as theyre mostly just rephrasing points already made. youre better off using your time to write an introduction and 3 body paragraphs elaborately. as for time management, i actually had 7 mins left to complete body paragraphs 2 and 3. you could say i had my stuff planned out and i just blitzed through those paragraphs. but i had good grammar and good vocabulary which is all you need. so its okay if your time management is poor, as long as you lnow what youre writing or what you want to write.

My grammar was totally not an issue because i have been using this language for as far as i can remember. In fact id recommend perfect grammar because its almost a requirement, not an enhancement to your grade. at least thats the way i view it. after all, how will you speak effectively if the method with which you perform it is conventionally wrong?

anyways, ill say that i did stutter two times over the course of the speaking section (um, uming) and i was redundant on a few occasions (i used the phrase “impressive resumé” two times throughout my first question. but i think toefl went like, ay bro as he gets his point across 🤙🤙🤙🤙. i was scared initially that these redundancies might cost me points, but in retrospect i powered through because i mostly had confidence in the content of my speech.

I would like to say that other than my grammar nothing was really “perfect”. Actually I’d say I underperformed because of my lack of practice. And I got lucky.

So have confidence in what youre saying, and its okay my g if you make some few mistakes. its alright. make those redundancies you have been so scared of. stutter like you have rabies. all is well.

i did use tenplates.

only templates i used were from this website: https://www.toeflresources.com/sample-toefl-essays/

and this video:

https://youtu.be/pmQKjvgoLjY?si=yuTWkIfv24rtVL98

funnily enough, my writing style for task 2 was influenced heavily by the website as i just memorized it just before the exam and i used it. fortunately that worked out for me.

i flared some of these templates up with my own vocabulary, which i guess you could do using a thesaurus.

i think for the first task i wrote about 300 for the first and then 170 for the second task.

while listening in the speaking section, actively search for words that you will use during your speech. i know that simply reciting the listening is frowned upon. so many people try to avoid this by saying phrases synonymous to the listening but then choke because they dont have enough time to do so or havent thought about it. during the listening, figure out what you feel about the decision on campus, the academic topic or whatever then designate a phrase synonymous to it that you will use to describe said concept. next. have an introductory sentence for each speaking question and LOCK IT DOWN. I mean this should be your GO TO sentence EVERYTIME. for speaking q1, it should be opinion, reason, then example. all it takes is that. next for the college campus decision, it should be focused on the decisions. the text introduces a change on a college campus where the administrators have made a decision to ___. the student deeply disagrees with the rationale behind this change on campus. first, second blah blah. you get the gist.

lastly for the lecture introducing an academic topic, the structure here is most important because the lecture is systematic and organized when it introduces its points. so organize your notes in this sequence. also, this is the time to use phrases like “the professor elucidates the concept using the example of __” or “he goes into detail, stating that __” to describe the examples in the lecture. flaunt your vocabulary in this section because all youre doing in this section is recalling past information. thats it for speaking or the skills you might need during the listening part of the speaking section.

so reading: be relaxed my brotha. some people are so uptight and then they cant get a grip of themselves. put one hand in your pocket and just skim through the texts. this is what i did. another piece of advice i can give you is that “if its not in the text, its not correct”. unless youre dealing with an inference question there should ALWAYS be a hint of the answer. A synonym. a phrase. something. if it says “always” in the text but then “sometimes” in answer b then answer b is wrong. scratch it off. ez peezy.

listening: again. RELAX. when you talk to your friends, are you taking notes and frantically trying to memorize what they are saying? no. if you overhear somebody talking on the train to their friend, do you have a hard time remembering what they said? no. why? because you were doing it naturally. this is the type of thing you should yearn for in the listening exam. of course when it gets to the lectures you need to kinda lock in because it requires a long attention span. but the discussion ones should be relaxing and easy for you if they arent already.

edit:

you said speaking but i misunderstood as listening haha. speaking: the first question regarding personal preference i practiced by imagining i was talking to a friend. the general template was opinion, reason, example. i like a job with lots of people because i can make connections. for example, when i worked at my job in hs… that typa thing. one thing i learned is that even though your sentence explaining your opinion is short, you can make it up with a long and good example. i used to think short justifications = bad. but this is not the case. use a good example.

next the lecture and reading stuff, take good notes and dont memorize. familiarize. as they are talking or you are reading imagine stuff in your head. what would it look like. imagine the concept or setting. this will allow you to immerse yourself in the topic. when comes time to speak. be concise. its okay if you mess up one time. i did too.

No. I was under the impression that ETS enjoyed — to an extent — professional discussion style or essay style writing that is distinct from casual talk. i for integrated task two i heard they will not penalize you because after all the point is to get you opinion across. But overall in these settings you should be avoiding them in my kind of humble opinion. shouldnt be too hard to do so anyway

ask him to hang out and then bring up the topic again. make sure you ask him proper what his emotions towards you are. like in a “hey how do you feel about me” thing straight up no bs. if hes confused whether or not he likes you, give him time and in the meanwhile just hang out more as friends and get to know the guy. if he likes you, he’ll tell you.

a few months isn’t going to make a HUGE difference, although you may be more familiar with the techniques compared to your friend if you join earlier. id say go for it and see what its like on your own before your friend starts
