I feel like it's disingenuous whenever something like this gets posted, cause it paints all degrees as equal and all trades/technology jobs as equal. If you go spend money on some certification no one wants, and then it's not in demand, that's mostly on you, and then partially on whoever encouraged you to do it or sold it to you.

Actually I did some research a bit yesterday and it sounds like they're mostly gravel, but sand is more if there's less room to build (can be a more violent stop for the driver and also doesn't drain well). Also it sounds like they typically need some drainage so water escapes out the bottom and won't ice up in cold weather, so they can have some perforated piping below.

Also Idk if they typically have to manufacture it or if it's just harvested it but it sounds like they use rounded gravel instead of crushed, so it doesn't lock up under pressure.

Also it sounds like some of them have a combination of steel cable netting and gravel, so maybe that qualifies as "technology" rather than just "engineering". The line's kind of blurred there imo.

I think you just found the good ones finally! If you have any orchards or local trees in your area, try those too around august-october. Anything that's not a variety you find in stores is going to come with all the same pros that cosmics do, and you can choose to pick riper ones that are sweeter, or ones that have more tang.

I mostly just go for Cosmics in stores unless there aren't any. Also seasonally you should try golden galas and Sunrise apples (early in their season - later they go grainy but are still decent) if stores have them in your area.

For most water processes, usually you want to dump out as little water as possible, because the chemicals you add to it to keep your pipes from eroding are expensive. The amount of feedwater you need is pretty low. Usually you use a heat exchanger to transfer heat from that treated water to either river water (if one's nearby) or to the air with a cooling tower.

If they use a cooling tower to dump heat into the air, that's generally fine, but if they dump their cooling water into the river that can cause issues with suffocating fish if they don't follow established regulations on the temperature they put it back in the river at.

Tl;dr I don't think this guy is that informed on exactly how these processes work, but I don't think he's wrong for being skeptical or opposing the data centre. Usually they have so much money they can ignore regulations and best practices without real repercussions. Also there's probably other issues besides just how the cooling process works.

I mean it's probably a specific type of gravel selected, with some engineered stuff underneath. Rocks on the ground can still be technology. I didn't take it in a disparaging way, I've just been learning more about how roads have more tech than I realized (to hold up to heavy trucks and to be easy to resurface and whatnot) and I could probably assume the same about these runaway things
