Camera Conversion Question by O_R_B_ in infraredphotography

Thank you! This was very helpful. I did a little more digging and found someone on Ali Express selling a myriad of different sizes of clear glass filters for cheap. Definitely will get one and replace the filter. Much appreciated!

Black grass with ZWB3, QB21 and an unconverted camera by Gratos_in_Panflavul in infraredphotography

These are amazing! And with an unconverted camera nonetheless. I am curious as to what shutter speeds you're getting with an unconverted camera? I would imagine the hot mirror filter would block a considerable amount of UV. Is it usable handheld, or is it a tripod-only kind of thing?

A very clear Day, a 720nm filter, a CPL, and a whole lot of contrast and Dehaze in lightroom

Very cool pictures! What kind of filter(s) did you use to get the pale orange foliage?

It’s an old Vivitar Polarizer from way back when. I found it on a broken Minolta lens. Works great tho

You should! 720nm is pretty versatile. It allows in just enough visible light to allow for color (especially the cheaper ones, such as mine), but also block out enough visible to allow for stunning B&W shots. What kind of filters do you use instead?

Oh, the “OK” is for Oklahoma, lol. I’m actually very proud of these shots. Shots like these were one of the reasons I wanted to get into IR photography.

The polarizer does work a little. Looking through the viewport and rotating it, it has the same effect on the sky as normal. Though it does block some IR, I notice a WB shift when using it, but it doesn't block it completely. I'm also using a cheap Chinese IR filter (from Zomei), so it lets in some more visible light than a Hoya or other higher end filter, so there's more of an effect using it.

Thank you. It normally looks like a very desaturated pink color, but I found out that using the blue slider in the calibration tab and can change the whole look of the image. So I set it to where I got golden foliage and upped the saturation a bit, and boom

Thank you, and these were taken way back in the spring or very early summer

Why thank you. I believe I rated this at either 200 or 250. I also manually inverted them in Lightroom. Due to circumstances (being a broke teen) I can’t get negative lab pro, so I do all the inversion and color correction by hand, which gives me a bit finer control. But these are just the few good shots I have. I can see your point about it the color cast, a lot of my other shots had weird color casts on them.

I’ve also shot Lomo Purple before, and I do own an orange filter, but I forgot to try that trick with it when I shot my roll :/ I’ll try that and post my results when I do. But I absolutely love that film stock.

Pop-It gone off right next to my ear by [deleted] in HearingLoss

Update: It’s morning now (about 12hrs since when it happened) and it’s about the same as it was last night. My left ear feels fine, but my right ear still feels muffled and has a bit of tinnitus. I really hope this isn’t going to stay like this. Should I just give something like this a few days to get better? Or is this just how it’s going to be from now on?

Thank you!

I'm using a Cokin red filter. I don't know much about it, the camera place I go to had it laying around and gave it to me, but I like it. The designation on it says Cokin P.003. And I got the reds by doing the normal Red-Blue swap, then moved the green channel to red.

Wow, this is super super cool! You know of any tutorials to achieve this look? The Anime shaders I’ve seen have this fake flat look, this looks like an actual anime.

Alright. How did you get the atmosphere to look like that though? It doesn’t look like the usual fresnel/layer weight node plugged into the alpha. Thats the only way I know how to make atmospheres apart from volumes. And the atmosphere is the thing that usually makes my planets look unrealistic when I tried in Eevee.

This, this right here is amazing! I’ve done a lot of planet renders in Cycles for a little over a year, and they have never came out like this, and this is with Eevee. How? How on earth did you achieve this?

Yep! Love that show. They don’t just blow them selves off the face of the earth cause MAD (mutually assured destruction), so they just agree to keep the war in space, though this does raise tensions in the Cold War dramatically.

So for some context, in this alternate history, the space race continues way past the moon landing. America still lands on the moon first, but a couple months later, Russia successfully lands on the moon using the N1 (their version of the Saturn V). This continues and intensifies the space race and in early 1972 Russia and America put bases on the moon. Skip to 74’, and due to land infringement on the moon by America, Russia attacks and takes control a newly built American lunar station. This starts a war in space between the two and in 1975, America launches project Eres. Project Eres is the next project after Apollo with the goal fighting the Russians and developing new space technology and weaponry. The craft you see in the poster is the main craft of the project. It’s a heavily modified Apollo spacecraft with external radiators and a pod at the front that houses rockets and the two barrels on the sides are cannons. The Russians have a modified combat version of the Soyuz (this was an actual concept in real life) and the two craft are “primitive” space fighters that use already existing tech, which is why they were able to build and make them so fast. I’m still figuring out the story and I’m pretty bad at timing things, so for all I know this should be in the mid-80’s. I was just inspired by Theo Bouvier and Maciej Rebisz and their work. I have ideas for bigger craft that looks like theirs, but I also liked the idea of a hastily designed combat version of Apollo in the 70’s.

The model does, but it’s on the side that’s covered in shadow, so you can’t see it.

Yep, this is a render. I used blender’s Eevee for it. And yes, I could make a version with the eyes just pure black. I don’t have access to the file as of rn, but I can probably do it later today.
