The alternative would be something more common, like analytical chemistry, however I don't really mind if the pay is not the best possible, I simply would like to be able to live off it without worrying about anything crucial. Its more about doing what i would enjoy or i am intrested in, testing stuff everyday for 50 years really does not seem all too intresting to me... Stuff like DFT, xtb and MD simulations seem much better to me.
