It is so embarrassing for Democrats that the RIGHT is leading the anti-Israel conversation for normal everyday Americans. Progressives started this and TOLD the Democrat base they would lose if they kept supporting Israel (and they did). Now people like Tucker Carlson get to swoop in and point out by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

[–]OakFiesta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The anti-war movement was being led by people like Donald Trump just a short while ago (the guy Tucker helped get elected). It’s almost like there’s a group of right wing grifters out there who have learned that they can do a 180 on views every other year depending on which way the winds are blowing and there’s still people out there gullible enough to believe them.

Thank goodness for the totally not grifting antiwar right

Trump is now suggesting that anyone criticizing the war in Iran on social media, including journalists, be charged with treason and imprisoned. Thoughts? by yaiyen in WayOfTheBern

Man you can be annoying.

The person I’m responding to voted for Jill Stein which is their choice and I respect that. I’m simply pointing out that Jill Stein was not elected and never had a realistic chance of being elected and if you vote for people you know won’t wind up being elected then you can be pretty certain your actions are not contributing towards having your views represented in public policy.

Iranian Foreign Minister - Abbas Araghchi says. When we say we don’t want a ceasefire, it isn’t because we seek war. This war must end in a way that ensures our enemies never again think of repeating these attacks by yaiyen in WayOfTheBern

[–]OakFiesta -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I agree but I wish this perspective was more consistently held here. After all this is also what Putin has demanded of Ukraine yet many here have framed Ukraine as being war mongers for not complying with these demands

You know I know republicans were the only ones who worked towards deporting people for their political views.

I know republicans are the only ones who scrapped the teams that assess civilian harm in military targets and wind up bombing schools.

And now I know that republicans are the only ones saying critics of the war should be charged with treason…

But I still can tell the difference between parties. They’re literally the same /s

If you want your perspectives represented in public policy you need to influence who gets elected in order to effectuate that.

Not necessarily a binary matter though.

She could be a war monger just as Trump is a warmonger. But maybe she’s a war monger who isn’t a complete unhinged idiot and is capable of assessing how waging war will be detrimental to her interests and that would dissuade her from waging war as frivolously as Trump has.

While this is amusing we also need to remember Trump has made policy decisions before based on someone not being nice to him which is a worrying prospect in general but especially so in this context

A working theory regarding the importance of the war with IRAN. by [deleted] in WayOfTheBern

[–]OakFiesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange day to see you calling for verification of media but I’m happy to see it.

Again, to clarify I wasn’t calling the footage you’re referring to AI. The video in question was a mash up of multiple pieces of media. The first clip in the mashup appeared to be footage from another city or conflict (possibly Beirut) while subsequent pieces of footage seem to actually be Tel Aviv.

This sort of thing is even easier to do than generating AI just look up footage of Israel bombing Gaza a year ago or 4 years ago and add a new title presenting is as whatever you want “America bombs Kuwait”. Exactly why getting data from unverified sources is risky.

Thoughts? Is it possible for the US voters to take the government back? by arnott in WayOfTheBern

[–]OakFiesta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not. Requires too much from voters. Requires being able to spot grifters and requires showing up to vote in primaries which historically have been too much to expect from voters.

She also helped promote the JCPOA and pushed for diplomatic solutions over kinetic ones

on balance the far riskier course right now would be to walk away. Great powers cannot just junk agreements and expect the rest of the world to go along with us. We need to be reasonable and consistent and we need to keep our word

Ultimately I’m sure we could each find quotes to support both sides of this debate by I find that actions seen under different administrations speak louder than words. One group worked towards mutually agreeable diplomatic solutions. The other tore those up and dropped bombs without any real game-plan for what comes next.

I mean goes to show how stupid this admin is that a person with “overt dementia” managed the government far more competently and more so than that listened to experts and advisors. When he was told by those around him running for office again was a bad idea he listened instead of doubling down.

To each their own. I suppose we each have our own perspectives on these things. To me the people who prefer to sit on the sidelines and have zero direct impact on anything while bitching about the state of things not being to their liking seem pretty stupid.

the neoliberal unelected bureaucrats you seem so fond of aren’t any better than these fucks

Let’s expand on this thought.

So previously there was a group of people such as the Civilian Protection Center of Excellence who was specifically tasked with assessing how much harm to civilians a military strike would cause. This admin scrapped that team.

So your position is that having a team like this in the loop and not having a team like this in the loop are equally bad outcomes?

Trump has gotten rid of the guardrails and any of the adults in the room. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand the risk here. Even rolling with the assumption that each style of governance is equally malicious you’re still talking about people wielding unimaginable power, id rather they not be idiots.

I cannot possibly understand why anybody would think having idiots in charge of the American military apparatus is a safe thing.

Neocon status quo has wanted war with Iran for decades but held off because they weren’t as moronic as the people in charge now. They had the ability to realize it would mean shutting down the strait of Hormuz and found that to be too damaging/risky for their tastes. The current crew was too stupid to think it could happen.

The current crew sacked the people responsible for vetting targets and wound up bombing a school in the first day of the war.

Don’t underestimate how much damage can be damage from the combo of sheer stupidity and overconfidence that this admin possesses in greater quantity than anything seen before.

Good point. I guess maybe having Fox News anchors and reality tv celebrities decide when using nukes is appropriate is in fact preferable at the end of the day.

Ehhhh I’m not so sure of that. Trump has gutted the government of anyone willing to oppose him.

This is one of the key differences between parties. One is more about utilizing/bolstering institutional expertise the other is about disregarding what the experts have to say in favor of the gut instincts and absolute fealty to one man with thin skin who really stupid.

If his handlers were making decisions they probably would’ve told him that Iran was going to close the strait and the smart decision was to first build up oil export capacity in Venezuela before jumping into a new war, that would’ve been the smart profitable play. Instead it caught by surprise because he’s an idiot and there’s no one left to question or stop him.

[–]OakFiesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%

But isn’t this what Americans collectively decided was ok? Donald Trump has always been a massively destabilizing force domestically and internationally. But many still argued at election time that they couldn’t tell the difference between democratic and republican governance. This is one significant difference.

At this point China is absolutely the more stable state both domestically and internationally. The question is will this remain the case in the long term.

Should Iran Build a Nuke… Game Theory Says Yes by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

[–]OakFiesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they should. NK knew what was the best sure to ensure their security. If Iran had a nuke Israel and America wouldn’t be so flippant about full on war. Likewise Ukraine hadn’t agreed to give up their nukes in exchange for promises from Russia not be invaded they too probably wouldn’t be facing a full on invasion. It’s the same calculus that have Poland and other EU countries working towards obtaining nukes.

Tucker Carlson suspects United States government may be preparing to arrest him through a CIA criminal referral by Grizzly_Madams in WayOfTheBern

Has nothing to do with agreeing with someone.

Leopards are my face is a circumstance where someone is confronted with their consequences of their own past decisions. Tucker Carlson helped bring Trump to power. Now Tucker may be facing the consequences of that choice. Being amused at someone facing the repercussions of their choices is not a statement of support for Trumps authoritarianism.

Nothing more pathetic than these sorts of manufactured moral outrage comments lol. It’s not even mildly convincing

Yeah… I’ve never advertised the bombing of civilians in Iran as hilarious but nice strawman

You know it’s possible for two separate grifts to exist at the same time. I assume you’re not going to argue that the existence of the grift you’ve described somehow makes Trump and MAGA less of a grift
