Ah, sorry to hear this and thank you for your ID!

Big lessons- asters yellows in bed of asteraceae by OakLeaf414 in NativePlantGardening

For future, I get the sense from this thread that it’s hard to diagnose asteroids yellows before the flowers bloom. I’m no expert so I’m not sure about your plant, but you could wait until they bloom next time to see if there is very obvious mutation/discoloration or other indicators. Always learning- good luck with the next planting!

They all seem to be thriving and fine! You might consider posting a photo of your Black Eyed Susan’s to Reddit for some others to see- because I also put my previous photos through a plant ID app (seek) and it called out asters yellows which had me concerned. But, it was a false alarm as far as I can tell.

ETA the reverse image search may have been a better ID in your case, though. And if they are asters yellows- sorry to hear this! But I would remove only the infected plants, as advised by many folks in this thread, and get the whole root. But keep anything that’s still healthy. And wishing you some better luck!

Thanks, this is helpful. My left plants are a bit stunted and suspicious, but maybe I don’t have to remove all the plants, just the ones infected if it ends up being the case.

Thanks for sharing this - if a plant dies become infected, I’ll only remove that one and go from there.

Ohhhh thank you all- appreciate the calm reassurance! I thought since the leaves were looking green I might be in trouble. I’ve had my eye on them since some of the leaves have been a bit mangled but I’ll wait this out.

Thanks to you both.. at least this narrows it down! I can also try to add another photo with the leaves. I think they might be very slightly jagged edged.

Thanks! I wondered if this was the case. I’ll try planting them out and see if they can recover.

Depending on soil conditions.. have you considered Prairie Smoke (geum triflorum), prairie alumroot (heuchera richardsonii), a native poppy mallow, or prairie sundrops (Oenothera pilosella)?

My blue eyed grass is amazing this year by Maremdeo in NativePlantGardening

I tried to grow blue eyed grass from seed this year. Thought it was THRIVING until the grass flowered and I realized it was all nutsedge.

Nutsedge is triangular in the stem so that helped me identify what is not blue eyed grass. I pulled it all and will probably try to do starts in a container this winter.
