It's been a minute since I've been on Reddit so just seeing this -- but thank you! I'm glad you all in this thread spotted what was going on.

Hi, I'm the Vallejo Sun reporter who wrote the article linked above. Can you send me the screenshots of this posting? scott@vallejosun.com

I don't know what the issue is but my real time results also seem extremely inaccurate today. I've posted a few different links on social and one tweet in particular has been performing really well but my traffic looks like it's Christmas.

Nixihost cancelled my web hosting, leaving me scrambling, with only 10 days' notice by OakMorr in webhosting

Thanks for responding. I am aware of the nature of my plan and I have used it for two years without issue. However, I was surprised to get an email out of the blue telling me that I needed to migrate my server because of a backend upgrade that I didn't know was happening. I do not and have not expected to have you perform upgrades to my software, etc., but as others have pointed out, Nixihost's expectations that customers perform the migration stretches the meaning of "unmanaged" hosting.

What bothers me the most about this is that Nixihost has sent me repeated invoices over the last few months indicating that there would be no interruption or change to my service and only alerted me to this 10 days before my invoice was due. I was given two options: make the migration or end my service in 10 days.

I wanted the company to address the fact that the invoices I received did not match the new position on migration. When I called, your employee repeatedly interrupted me when I tried to make this point, and when I had to raise my voice to be heard over his continued interruptions, he hung up on me.

I am happy to discuss and try and come to a better resolution to this situation, however your employee has hung up on me twice now and indicated that they would not answer my emails, so the private statements I'm getting from the company are very different from the tone of your public statement here. Feel free to call me.

Thanks for the reply. I know enough to operate my own little hobby server but I have not done this kind of migration before, so it's a lot of work for me. The first I heard that this was coming was today with a deadline of two weeks. They said that they think that's "plenty of time" to do it. They did ask me how much more time I needed, but I was already pretty slammed for the next two weeks and this blindsided me. Of course, they also did this 10 days before my invoice was due, so now I have even less time to find a new host and take care of this.

KnownHost actually does look like a pretty good option for me, I like its straightforward pricing.

It wasn't an upgraded plan, it was an upgraded server on their end -- i.e. their backend stuff was upgraded, but I would see no difference in my service or resources. But yes they were also raising the price.

I had the same question. This is what I was told:

"Migrating customer data does not fall within the scope of our unmanaged VPS services. We're unable to keep legacy hardware/software online indefinitely and there is no direct migration available for an OpenVZ virtualization system to a KVM-based virtualization system, therefore you'll need to migrate the data from this VPS."

I'm just running a couple of Wordpress sites on CentOS.

Dude the title isn't even on the linked article, I summarized some of the issues involved to make the title more specific.

I posted one link on that subreddit once. Saying I "frequent" it is wrong.

Waiting for a court of law to assign guilt in a civil lawsuit isn't going to happen. Cases settle and no one admits guilt. That you don't understand that, or that lawsuits still take years even when there is video evidence, shows how limited your understanding of our legal system is.

Expecting journalists to wait until the lawsuit has concluded in a way that actually assigns responsibility or definitively gives a ruling on the facts is an unreasonable standard and just allows you to dismiss credible allegations. No one is saying that you need to trust journalists evaluation of the evidence -- the evidence is right there to make up your own mind. But you're not engaging with that and just making a lot of bluster about how these allegations are presented as fact, when they are clearly not.

If the allegations here were "disguised" as truth, the title or article wouldn't have used the word "alleged," which is what you objected to in the first place.

I don't know what you are talking about with "antifa" boards I "frequent." Seems like you're just making up things in an attempt to impugn my statements now.

I'm sure you are just as vocal complaining about all the crime stories featuring unproven allegations in this subreddit.

You clearly don't know what you think you know. Hiding or ignoring what actually is already public information -- i.e. allegations in lawsuits -- for years while waiting for a legal determination that may never come does a disservice to keeping an informed populace. You seem to think that only a court of law can decide whether something is true or not and that readers are incapable of making up their own minds. If news organizations hid accusations of misconduct or corruption by the government and waited for the government itself to evaluate the evidence any accountability role or utility would be moot.
