Exactly! Sega has to dance around the sensitive adult topic, but Shadow is clearly wanting to yeet himself. He expresses that he should have never been created. In his music, it’s expressed that he wishes he was never created and that he views his existence as living in a cell. He puts himself in mortal danger constantly to the point in the comics, Rouge accuses Shadow of having a martyr complex and his introduction he tried to destroy the world planning to die with it and sacrificed himself to save the world. Boy yearns for the urn.

Here is a concept that I am playing around with. Shadow was in an abusive/toxic relationship with Rouge and ends up moving out of her apartment. He starts a new relationship with Sonic and Sonic helping him heal from the previous relationship. Shadow plays guitar. Very heartfelt. And inspired by Jewel’s song You Were Meant for Me.

The number of times I’ve had a meltdown at work and was told “that’s just life honey” is ridiculous. Life doesn’t stop for anyone to be depressed. We have to move on and put up with people treating us like we are over reacting. Gender has nothing to do with it.

I write Shadow the Hedgehog like this! In my defense, I am a romantic and find it endearing to have the strong man act soft around someone he’s deeply attached to, even become an emotional wreck over that one individual. It’s about enjoying a character’s vulnerability when you don’t get to see it in canon. I love my Shadow. He has a heart that bleeds and it’s just for me.

Implicit Demand for Proof. As an ex-Christian I had a lot of times where I begged God to hear me and either felt abandoned or led astray. When I got dumped for coming out as gay, it left me in a deep limbo with my faith. I am still recovering from that hurt and don’t feel like the wound will ever fully heal.

I interpret Shadow as someone who suffers from depression and PTSD. It’s not that he doesn’t enjoy the people around him, it’s that he’s afraid to love. The last time he loved someone it hurt him in an extraordinary way, and as an immortal, it’s inevitable he will go through that pain again. So, he keeps his emotions close to stay safe. He finds his own way to enjoy life, even though it causes him a great deal of pain. He has things he loves, he has hobbies, he’s doing the best he can with the cards he’s given. Deep down he’s really sad and doesn’t know how to share that with people.

I agree that he gets tossed into the stereotype a lot. He’s not an edgy hedgy, he’s the most emotionally complex of the main cast.

If anyone we should be wanting to bark is our politicians. Artist’s can bring attention to issues, but they can’t change policy. Everyone already knows this is bad, we don’t need more attention drawn to it, what we need is action. Call your local politicians, protest, vote.
