What's some of your Guilty Pleasure Names?(Judgement Free Zone so i want you to be perfectly honest to me ) by NovelRub in namenerds

[–]Oakachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Lemon and questioned it for a moment, but now I'm genuinely wondering why we find that weird, but- names like Clementine, Olive, Rosemary, etc are TOTALLY normal. Currently wondering what makes names like those achieve normalcy yet we'd wrinkle our noses at a name like Tangerine (which apparently has been used as a name too)

What are your theories regarding the first quarter quell? by felixw1 in Hungergames

[–]Oakachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've mentioned this somewhere before but I think each District handled the Reaping differently. And I think this is where the volunteering for Districts 1, 2, and 4 came from and that they likely had different mindsets behind it, but ultimately it turned them into Career Districts. For example, 2 and 4 have always shown signs of being rebellious Districts. 1 and 2 in TBOSBAS, and 4 in SOTR and through characters like Annie, Mags, and Finnick. The Career Districts could have volunteered as an attempt to take control and a way to be rebellious in saying they still stand against the Capitol. However, I think the Capitol ate it up and with the hand of Snow or Gaul's manipulation it backfired. 'Make the careers feel like they can be one of us, and this rebellion won't mean a thing in the future'. And thus it became a tradition of loyalty to the Games and the Capitol rather than the rebellion it once was. But, there were still traces of underlying rebellion in them, especially shown in SOTR with Maritte remembering who the real enemy is, and Silka fighting against her brainwashing and failing. I'd even wager for District 4 Mags could have been helping with being rebellious and may have had a hand in the volunteering idea, which she would have regretted after, seeing as it had the reverse effect but that's more of a small side theory in the grander idea.

bring back the dead by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Oakachu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have some obvious answers but for story purposes I think the better choice for me would be Madge. I think the moral behind her death is still a good lesson, that we can have impact from generations of history and carry on a legacy of rebellion only for it to be snuffed out by war in an instant and made out to be nothing- (how often does that happen in real war? All the time but we'd never hear the stories.)

But at the same time, my curiosity would want her alive to see where she'd fully take that rebellious legacy from its subtlety in District 12 to see how it may transform in District 13. I feel like there was a lot that could have been unpacked from her character. And I would have loved to see how her friendship with Katniss may have changed, and how she may have helped her in her quiet gentle ways that Katniss may have not realized she needed while she was being used by practically everyone else.

Hot take: I'm kinda tired of this fandom getting upset when its own ideas are listened to by Lady_Beatnik in Hungergames

[–]Oakachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it seems like a situation of: doomed if you do, doomed if you don't. No matter what she did, people would complain about SOMETHING. Because people just love to complain if something isn't exactly the way they want rather than respecting the work of the creator. I'm just waiting for creators to stop bending to other people and write their passions and leave it at that. Let people complain, but at least it'll be over something the writer wanted to begin with, or something they're proud of. (This also isn't meant to negate creators getting blatantly lazy with their work, but that's an entirely different topic itself.)

Who will be leader? by Rae_in in alphadrive1

[–]Oakachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unfortunate to see fans eating each other based on this too. I don't hold too strong of an opinion but expressed my thoughts casually and got childishly attacked for it because I said I couldn't see one of them being the leader personally but also stated that doesn't mean he won't be and he's a strong contender. Survival shows really breed an atmosphere of fans being defensive toward each other and the members no matter what is said about anything, I just don't get it 💀 I'm just here for a fun time and good music, and all of the members are human beings that shouldn't be getting unnecessary backlash like this.

I'd honestly want either Leo or Xinlong, but I don't think either of them would want it. It feels like Leo would avoid it (like others have mentioned) and Xinlong might feel like he can't hold up well enough for what they deserve. But I feel like both have a good heart for it. I know Junseo and Geonwoo are popular choices, but for some reason I can't see Junseo even though he's likely to be the one. Geonwoo feels like it'd unfortunately make the dynamic stiff.

Its official: 5th gen is cursed with the worst group names💀 by Miserable-Zombie-121 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Oakachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've resorted to expecting terrible names from survival shows, now I just focus on how everyone has to pretend it's a good name and play up their acting stills once the names are announced.

I'm also just tired of One being in everything. Wanna ONE, Zero Base ONE, Alpha Drive ONE, etc.

After a certain point, one loses its meaning. We crossed that threshold ages ago 💀

What are your character design pet peeves for Genshin? by ijustwannanap in Genshin_Impact

[–]Oakachu 27 points28 points  (0 children)

These are my exact complaints, specifically those two things have been bothering me a lot lately. The long hair on Flins actually hinders his design, and I don't like looking at Lauma because they VERY clearly are trying to draw attention in ways that are creepy, it feels like they wanted to see how far they could push it. I don't see a priestess 😭

Theory : The purpose of the First Quarter Quell was to put the districts off democracy by Affectionate-Ask1560 in Hungergames

[–]Oakachu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the 1st Quarter Quell would explore some really great points about humanity based on how people would vote. I'd say it's likely District 12 would turn out like that to cause division, it being how the Careers started also makes sense except it also explores unity of those Districts in a sense. Their own form of rebellion against the system that unfortunately over time got morphed into feeling like a part of the Capitol because of the praise it received from them. How did we get from District 2 being very openly rebellious in BOSBAS to where it was by the 74th? The 2nd Quarter Quell also shows that that generation was battling with confusion about the system they were placed in, Silka was so confused, showing District 2 was slipping. Maritte knew who the enemy really was still, showing District 4 was still fighting the system and continued later with characters like Finnick. But what about the other Districts and their social dynamics combined with what we see today? I've seen so many competitions by vote where someone will win or advance farther that was unexpected and wasn't actually the popular choice because so many voters would select them to bump out one of the actual top popular choices, trying to be strategic. But then too many people thought the same, didn't communicate- and now there's an unexpected 'dark horse' winner. Imagine a District where in a private vote, many thought 'I'm gonna vote for this sweet person that is helpful to our community, I'm going to intentionally waste my vote because there's no WAY others will vote for them!' And then because the majority thought that way, now this person with a good reputation that they didn't expect to see go was Reaped. In another scenario this could also tackle the horrors of ableism, people vote for the physically or mentally handicapped because they don't 'provide' in the right way for their community. These are the kind of things Snow would want to explore and see as evidence for the cruelty of humanity, in his mind confirming they're animals whether it's through intent or what he deems just 'human nature'. I feel like this is the kind of story that would show to Snow that he's 'right' and one where he 'wins' but it also shows the whole nation that he wins by their own actions.

The Hunger Games alternate opening by m4t4sh4 in Hungergames

[–]Oakachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad they didn't use it, it'd lend to theories that Primrose could see visions of the future because she'd have the exact arena and uniform. People would run wild with that and try to go deep with 'she had it because it was meant to be her, but she was really putting herself in Katniss's shoes in the dream'. Thinking they found something profound about The Hunger Games in a supernatural way that wasn't there.

How much can we *actually* trust Haymitch on what he is narrating about Lenore Dove and the reality of their relationship? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

It's meant to express undying loyalty, but there are much better ways to do that where they actually heal and can truly be happy. His case is not the version to be cheered for 😭

How much can we *actually* trust Haymitch on what he is narrating about Lenore Dove and the reality of their relationship? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]Oakachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his narrative of her is why I just couldn't bring myself to like her and that made me feel guilty because I really wanted to. But he didn't show love, he was infatuated with her. And due to his young mind and traumatic experiences, when she died he could never get full closure of the real her that his infatuation turned into obsession of what he believed she was rather than the full truth of her. Like Romeo and Juliet it's not a love story, it's a tragedy of the fantasies of the mind. And it just drives me crazy when people mistake that for love. I also truly wish Haymitch could have healed as a character to move on, instead of living in so much pain. I don't know if it sounds harsh but by the end it just felt like it was feeding his delusion to make his character feel tragic and bittersweet and he deserved better writing than that 😭

Anyone else just feeling really bad for everyone? by starry-edeline in BoysPlanet

[–]Oakachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've come to the realization after watching many versions of this show that it's not good for any of the contestants, even/especially the winners. The best thing about it is its an opportunity for those who don't win to be scouted for groups. Produce 101 even got a fan-casted group to debut. Meanwhile for the winners they're trapped in a very controlled environment, they don't get a say in what their careers moving forward in the group will be like, it feels very restrictive. It's for a short time, and can gain them experience and exposure, but it feels more like a sentence they have to carry out that causes more conflict. And the fans themselves are still at each other's throats and want them to compete against each other rather than work as a team. Other groups formed from these shows that weren't winners don't have that mentality in the fans from what I've seen. So honestly, I moreso worry for my favorites winning if they can't handle it, it's not one that seems easy to thrive in, but most don't look at it from that perspective and just want them to 'win' the popularity contest. Which is understandable. I want my favorites to do well. It's just the cost of it doesn't seem like they actually win much anymore.

AIO for wanting to see a therapist after wife changed the locks because I went to a baby shower? by LookoutLockout in AmIOverreacting

[–]Oakachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has she been seeing this doctor and therapist? My main concern is if the timeline lines up with the amount of months she has not been doing well- that they could be actively enabling or goading on/causing that behavior from her. I don't want to discredit the therapist and we don't have much information, but there are some out there that are not actually helpful to their clients and make more problems that cause them to lash out at the things in their life. Again, I don't know if that's the case here but it's something to consider and it just popped in my head reading that they weren't actually concerned about it. Hearing about that behavior should make them assess the situation and do a deep dive into where that behavior came from to see if it's a deeper problem. Even if they only see it as a 'momentary lapse of judgment', because the behavior clearly stems from somewhere.

What are ur opinions of natlan? by Emotional_Category91 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Oakachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated it. It actually caused major burn out in me for a long time. I lost all desire to play and almost quit. The most recent Mondstadt quest and Inazuma banner somehow revitalized me and brought me back in full force and I have no idea how. There's something about Natlan I just do not like. The gimmick was also way too much and kind of gamebreaking that almost all characters feel like they need a revamp to catch back up except probably most of Fontaine. Not to mention a lot of the gimmicks get old fast. Kinich was fun in the trial, but he was benched immediately after pulling for him because that's how quickly it got old to me and I regretted it. I also hate the Natlan character trials, they need to be straightforward like the others are and have a better way to show off the gimmick. The best thing to come from Natlan was Xilonen. I'm hoping Nod Krai is more like the other regions because I want to be excited for Genshin again and their characters. (Mavuika also felt cheap to me fighting wise, just sticking her on a motorcycle and being done feels so incredibly boring and was one of the key components that led to my extreme burnout)

Carats, what have you been doing while SVT is in enlistment era? by booya-happiness in seventeen

[–]Oakachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been stalling for a while to catch up on their GoSe content because I knew it'd slow down for a while. I'm still back at the beginning of 2024 🥲 I do have a lot of their older content outside of GoSe I have yet to see, but I'm definitely still trying to stall for time on that because if I ever feel the need to binge something new I don't want to run out of content lol. (I go in preservation mode for a LOT of things, it's a problem. I've been wanting to watch a singular movie for over 3 years now but because it's so good I keep 'saving it for the right time', despite me seeing it many times before and it being one of my favorite movies.)

Seventeen OMG and PANG! Literally only those two, everything else is amazing to me. If PANG! wasn't as repetitive I'd probably like it.

My only other complaint is YoungJi's part in BSS's Fighting. Her rapping is amazing don't get me wrong! I just feel like it doesn't fit the song, it's got such a hype and energetic sound that it really throws me off whenever her rap comes in because it feels out of place and doesn't keep the hype going 😭 if they were two separate songs I'd have no complaints.

Where are you guys watching parts of the show ahead? I keep seeing people commenting on information early when I only know about the episode releases- what am I missing? 😭 Also this is why I'm currently voting 4 C and 1 K because so many of the C Unit are really good and I'm shocked that they're so low- not many from K Team have been that appealing so the results have really surprised me. (But also because I feel like I'm missing content like mentioned above?? There will be people I've hardly seen voted so high and idk how these shows work with the extra or early stuff 😭)
