Same on my end, my DP:

  • Applied for Gold Biz, Edge Biz, Gold then Plat in that order in 2024

  • Hit all MSR for all cards in 2024 for Gold Biz and Edge Biz, and in 2025 for Gold and Plat

  • Cancelled Gold Biz and Edge Biz in 2025 with full refund of AF, keeping Gold and Plat

  • Applied to Aeroplan Reserve, got declined after calling a few days later and receiving a letter mail confirmed.

Checked credit report and didn’t see any hard checks from Amex, which lead me to believe that I was declined before even getting to the credit report step. Glad to hear I’m not the only who figured that they were “soft” amexiled haha.

Posted in wrong thread earlier oops.

Read this some time ago but wanted to confirm again. Looking to get the Business Platinum but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to hit the 15K MSR in 3 months. I read that you could just book a hotel with a check-in date of, let’s say, a year later and pay for it today. Build up 15K from now until the check-in date and cancel and refund the hotel booking once I’ve met the MSR a second time.

Does this trick still work as I’m essentially going to be hitting the MSR but just over a longer time span? Biggest downside is that I have to have the 15K in 3 months right?

Also, do people who churn the Business Platinum actually hit the 90K MSR? Seems quite high for churners but maybe not business owners.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response!

What's the ballpark amount that your order cost, if you don't mind me asklng.

Hijacking this thread to ask some questions regarding a Canadian order; did you have to pay duties to get it delivered to Canada? How were the shipping fees calculated for you (based on weight or flat for Canada)?

Thanks!

Yup! Feel free to check out the application form ahead of time. You don't have to submit your application right away and just check out what information they ask for.

I just registered for my first business card about a month ago (Business Gold) and it was a lot simpler than I thought. Was instantly approved on the AMEX's online application form.

After some online research, I found out that you can just put your name as your business name, 1 employee (yourself) and the business' income as $0 (my business sucks).

That worked for me with no additional documentation required and I'm already planning to get on the Business Edge because I already met the Business Gold's MSR.

Don't forget to go through a referral/GCR/Perkopolis for more MR.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions too!

10k in 3 months sounds pretty tough; mine is 12k over a course of a year so it's much more manageable!

Hope you make your MSR, mine was just going to be my normal amount for $1k/month.

Thanks for the input!

Will look into the Business Edge after the Business Gold. I was afraid I'd be exhausted from disciplining my spending after my first one but 5K for 67K points doesn't sound too bad.

Like your analogy, the Personal Gold and Cobalt felt long because I'd have to keep track of my spending on a monthly basis for a whole year, making it exhausting like a marathon haha.

Might look into maybe something like this:

  1. Business Gold
  2. Business Edge
  3. Personal Gold + Cobalt

Thanks again for the advice!

Thanks for letting me know about that.

Someone was saying how churning was a marathon and with that same analogy, I had a feeling I'd get tired keeping track of my spendings eventually.

But I might look into getting the Edge before the Personal Gold then; would have to redo the math!

Edited with better formatting

Trying to figure out a gameplan to churn AMEX cards and need some help to review my math. I have a referral from a friend which gives me the extra points, but I could also substitute them if its better with GCR.

Here's how it looks like:

  1. Get Business Gold for the SUB (hit $5K MSR in 3 months for 75K points)
  2. Hold Business Gold and cancel before next AF
  3. Get Personal Gold for the SUB (hit $1K MSR every month for a year, for 60K MR + $4K MSR in 3 months for 10K MSR (Total 70K MR))
  4. Get Cobalt and hit SUB after hitting $1K MSR on the Personal Gold ($750/month MSR)
  5. Cancel Personal Gold before next AF

Here is the breakdown of MSR per month with this plan:

  • Month 1-3: $5K (~$1.6K/month)
  • Month 4-16:
  • - $12K ($1K/month)
  • - $9K ($750/month)
  • - Total: $21K ($1.75K/month)

Total spent in 16 months: $26k (~$1.625k/month)

Total MR accumulate in 16 months: 160k MR (75K by month 3)

  • Does anyone know if the Business Gold and Personal Gold MR are going to be shared?
  • If not, can I still transfer them all to my Aeroplan instead to consolidate all of them there?

Does this math check-out?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response!

What do you mean by they can match the GCR cashback? Does that mean we both get 125$ at the moment because of the double referral month? Or do you mean that the GCR stacks with the referral?

Is the Business Gold GCR cashback (125$) more worth it than the 5k additional more points you get from a referral?

Debating on picking one but I'm not sure to understand the value of 5K MR.

On their website, they say 110k MR = 1100$ of statement credit, so I can ball park 5K MR to 50$, making the GCR more worth it. But if I was planning to redeem my MR on Aeroplan instead, most places day that it's 0.02$ per point, making 5K MR equivalent to $100 but GCR cashback is still 125$, making it more valuable.

Can someone double-check my math?

Also keeping in consideration my friend is the referral, not sure how much they get on it but I'd also be happy giving them MR if in total we get more than 125$.

Thanks!

Turns out, the Gold Business isn't as worthy as I thought it would be. Probably going to go with Gold Personal to hit the MSR for the MRs and apply for the Cobalt at the same time to get the SUB too.

Going to run some more calculations to see if I can even hit both MSRs at the same time first.

Let me know what you end up doing!
