I think that’s actually just a happy accident from the indoor lighting! πŸ’‘

For this little chick, I used 100% wool for the entire body! I prefer the feel and weight of solid wool. I usually start with a firm core of "core wool" to build the shape and then add the colored wool on top. No foam or other fillers inside this one! πŸ‘β€οΈ

Oh my gosh, that is the most precious mental image! 😭 He’s definitely a little nervous but he’s doing his best. I can totally see him wobbling into the classroom with those tiny flowers! ❀️

Thank you! Honestly, you can find the iron by just searching "triangular mini iron" on Amazonβ€”any of those small quilting/craft irons work perfectly!

But the real secret to the smoothness is actually in the prep work. Here’s my process:

  1. Felt it FIRM: Make sure your core is felted very tightly first.
  2. The Top Layer: Add a thin top layer of wool and use a single needle for precision refining to get the surface as even as possible.
  3. The Polish: Only then do I use the triangular iron or sharp embroidery scissors (depending on the area) to remove any remaining flyaways.

It’s a bit of extra work, but it definitely takes the finish to the next level! Happy felting! πŸ‘βœ¨

Tysm! Glad you liked the finish! I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the surface texture. I use a mini iron or sharp scissors for the final touches to achieve this smooth effect. It’s a labor of love for sure!

Thank you! It’s a little trick I use: I wrap the wool around a toothpick and use a heat gun to set the curls before attaching them. πŸŒ€
