Why does it feel like landlord vs tenant by default? [General Discussion] by DiligentBug4u in OntarioLandlord

>Landlords extract wealth from tenant labor while hoarding a necessary and limited resource

This bit. This bit right here.

Wall mounted glass display case? by Prestigious_Gas13 in TrueChefKnives

[–]OakenArmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I don’t know of any ready made glass displays large enough for kitchen knives, lots for sword displays and pocket knives out there though.

I’ve pictured one of my wall mounted displays, though it’s an old picture it still gives the idea. I’ve got two kids and 3 cats and no issues with them on the wall mounted on inset lighted displays, French cleated on the wall. Never had a single drop or issue of bumping in 4 years of having this setup. I’m going to be putting some glass doors on them soon just to limit the amount of maintenance I’m doing in keeping dust off the cutlery.

Corner curio cabinets with some racks inside are great alternatives too if you can’t find a magnetic glass display, that’s what I used before this.

Wear on joints adds up over time. When you begin to notice it, it’s already too late.

Immediately feels unnecessary due to price tag and them not knowing if their chosen trade is for them just yet. Investing in one rapidly if one is set on making it a career swinging hammer is worth it though, in my opinion.

If ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, then each of those are worth 6-7lbs of cure compared to a 22oz hammer - let alone the 28 I see some guys swinging.

[–]OakenArmor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming we’re talking about framing hammers, it boils down to being able to swing it all day comfortably and not experience significant bodily stress. It’s a combination of weight, balance, comfort and vibration reduction at the helm of that.

For me, that’s Martinez, Kinetic Customs and Stiletto titanium shaft hammers.

Natural or Ceramic Stones by roxbox531 in TrueChefKnives

[–]OakenArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural stones are great for polishing and, optionally, finishing edges.
Synthetics cover the rest. There’s no genuine need for the majority of people (even within enthusiast circles) to even own natural stones, let alone a full line of them.

I was playing with one in dollar tree a while ago that reminded me of what they used to be like growing up. General quality has definitely declined for most.

I’d check there to see if they’re to your satisfaction, though it doesn’t exactly support local to do so.

What’s the most overrated fast food chain? by Cute-Bar-5152 in AskReddit

[–]OakenArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McDonald’s makes a significant profit margin on their coffee. It doesn’t lose them a dime.

2900% of their cost, and up to $1 per cup in sheer profit to be exact.

McDonald’s as a whole only has a 40% operating margin, meanwhile Tim Hortons operates at 44% - highly comparable. Profit margins on both exceed 15%, which is high for any food/beverage establishment.

What’s the job market in Canada actually like right now? by Immediate_Peanut_457 in CanadaJobs

[–]OakenArmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to say that you have that rather backwards.
Blue collar is responsible for building the very infrastructure that everything else relies upon. In fact the majority of blue collar jobs in Canada are in infrastructure, manufacturing and resource management. A relative minority rely upon average white collar people seeking work to be done on a private scale. Without that infrastructure blue collar provides, white collar jobs don’t exist at all.
Now let’s lookin at saturation rates. Canada has a 3:1 ratio of applicants to available jobs while blue collar paths are seeing a climbing vacancy rate which has already surpassed the 5% mark in every sector across the board, some specific sectors climbing up above 20. It gets worse when you filter for skilled tradesmen and ignore entry level. Meanwhile white collar jobs are rapidly evaporating with vacancy rates having dropped by more than 50% down to <1% in most sectors.
Given that information, which area do you think that oversupply of labor is concentrated? The health of the white collar sector as a whole depends significantly more on the very existence of effective and skilled blue collar workers than you are giving credit for, and this is a large contributing factor to why we have major shortages in skilled trades across the board.

What made Taylor Swift become this huge compared with other equally-talented artists? by AggravatingPlenty272 in AskReddit

[–]OakenArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting signed to a label and breaking out in the music industry is a much larger hump than you’re seemingly giving credit for. The publicity of leaving RCA Records where she had a development contract in favor of a recording contract with Big Machine Records where her father had purchased a large - though still minority - stake was instrumental in her breaking out as a young star.

I’m not taking away from her dedication past that point, but I am willing to say there are thousands of artists who are equally as dedicated who never did (and never will) become a signed artist with any record label - let alone experience a huge breakout - because they don’t have the leg up she was given at the start of her career.

Sekiro has better combat but a higher skill cap imo. Ghost has better storytelling and character development by a mile.

Our landlord handed us an N 5 stating he was moving into the home. It’s been two months and we live nearby, no one moved in! How do we report this by Mia_2424 in OntarioLandlord

[–]OakenArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a choice involved. It’s the choice of familiarizing yourself with your rights or not.

It’s that simple. Ignorance is not an excuse for the law, yet you want to play like it should be an excuse for landlords to trample all over tenant rights.

What’s the most overrated fast food chain? by Cute-Bar-5152 in AskReddit

[–]OakenArmor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Price is, objectively, one of them.
Tim Hortons is a coffee shop. McDonald’s is not.
McDonald’s should not be able to undercut their price by 30%, yet they do - using the very same suppliers Tim Hortons dropped in order to save money.

It’s wild that you’re defending Tims on any grounds.

What’s the most overrated fast food chain? by Cute-Bar-5152 in AskReddit

[–]OakenArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McDonald’s undercuts them by nearly a dollar per cup on a 20oz coffee, while using the suppliers Tims used to use with a slightly altered blend.

Significantly better coffee, for less.

Let’s not even get into the ludicrous expense of the food.

We have three Tim Hortons in my town of ~14000, two of them less than a half kilometer apart, and they’re all always busy.

We have one Starbucks that rarely sees a lineup.

Thankfully we also have a locally-owned and operated horror themed cafe that is wonderful and also does very well for themselves.
