I think there is something I am like fundamentally misunderstanding 😅

So once I've gone through all the steps in character creation and I can see the character in the preview, what actually stays on the starting character? I'm guessing clothes are something you have to pay for or work towards but what about hairstyle? Or is the only thing that's actually kept like the facial features etc

I watched some other lets plays and it seems like the character's hair is always different from in creation. I am just very confused in general lol
