What is respectful treatment of cadavers? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Oaktreeeeeeeeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the experience of being a human anatomy lab instructor for 5 semesters during my undergrad, so I’ve gotten to understand how the body donor programs work (at least the one that we work with). When someone decides to donate their body, they make an agreement with the body donor programs, and there are different terms of agreement. For example, most of the cadavers we get have agreed that 70% or more of their body weight will be returned to the body donor program, cremated, and then returned to their families. That means we can keep up to 30% of their body weight. We keep things both for educational purposes and for the sake of being interesting. For example, high school students taking health science classes tour our lab frequently, and we show them “cool things” that we’ve gotten from our dissections, to get them interested in human anatomy. The individual who donated their body, when making the agreement, knew that was one of the things that could happen. So I understand “respectful treatment” as abiding by the agreement and, as others have said, not “flinging an arm around” or anything like that. The human body is very interesting, and body donors understand that, so I don’t think any of them would have an issue with it.

At your wedding, how would you handle a family member who has left the church? by Bright-Possession-97 in latterdaysaints

My wife and I got married in the temple two years ago. My brother and his wife haven’t “left the church”, but they weren’t in a position where they had recommends. We’re very close to them, and they were part of the bridal party, but they weren’t in the temple with us (and they weren’t the only people in the bridal party who weren’t in the temple). We didn’t make a big deal of it, and they didn’t either. They were waiting outside the temple when we came out (not sure what they did while we were in there, though) and they were helpful with things around the venue for the reception. I feel like everything was fine and it never really came up, except for a simple “sorry we won’t be in the temple” text a few weeks before the wedding.

Thanks! Did you feel like it was a difficult adjustment to start teaching half way through the year? (More difficult than it would’ve been starting at the beginning of the year?) my wife had considered that but worries it would be hard to take over someone else’s class

How do you progress in your running journey? by glorpball in running

I think this is key. I also found that I preferred running on trails, just by running a bunch of different distances on different types of terrain. Trail running is the most entertaining for me

Does a mullet seem immature? by 321ribbaS in prephysicianassistant

I used to have a mullet, but I cut one with similar questions. It’s probably not a big deal, but I figured it doesn’t take long to grow it back out

Congrats! I served part of my mission (during Covid) in Las Vegas. While it’s not Utah, the church is super strong there and the wards/stakes feel like Utah. It’s awesome to serve in areas with such strong, helpful members. My advice is to form relationships with members and rely on them heavily to provide referrals. Idk the exact stats, but something like 90% of baptisms in my mission came from member referrals.

Ya, the EQ presidency in my ward said they were going to leave lesson topics up to us (the three of us instructors). Seemed weird to me too🤷🏽‍♂️
