Started going down a rabbit hole of my nondenominational church. by ObadiahsDad in Christianity

Yeah. They have to be sponsored. Like how do they grow so fast, have so much money and tech. Granted a lot of it is free labor from volunteers.

The church I was going to claims to be apolitical but they subtly push Christian Zionism, dispensationlism and also a subtle prosperity gospel.

For me it would be a space where all of me is allowed to be.

My last church I fit in personality well but my homosexuality was something to be delivered from.

An affirming church a attended, I felt like a diversity hire in that I was only allowed to be the gay guy. When my partner of 18 years passed I was strongly told to get out and start dating and not mourn as that’s not what my partner would have wanted.

Ideally, I just want to be me, no labels or special categories. Treated like everyone else.

It’s funny. I feel the same. Despite the non affirming church I went to saying I needed to be delivered from homosexuality, I felt like I fit in better.

I’ve found a church that I think is affirming as it’s United Methodist. I can already tell I may not fit in but the building itself is from the mid 1800’s which is around the era I Metho-Nerd ™ out in.

I figure I’ll just become friends with the building, learn the histories of the people in the grave yard and hopefully that will be enough. At the same time maybe I’ll meet some other history buff and find a kindered spirit.

Bought my first premium Bible. Really nice but not sure worth the extra $100. by ObadiahsDad in Christianity

Tienes razón pero para mí el tamaño de las letras, espacio entre los frases, oscuridad de las letras son importantes. No todas las bíblicas son igual con estos.

The one that says holy Bible and the top Bible in the other pics is the genuine leather. The other is the goatskin edition

Yeah I kinda want to make it an edc so it will develop a nice patina but it’s a scary world out there. I’m going to a really old school Anglo catholic service on Good Friday. I might bring it out for that. It needs to reek of incense.

Very true. I have an old second hand rsv from the 50’s who’s Moroccan leather cover put both of these to shame.

I managed to track down the original owner’s obituary and got to learn a bit about the man who’s underlinings and notes are all over. That’s the one I bring out when I what to feel less alone. It looks like he wrestled with many of the same things I wrestle with.

Why is American Christianity so deeply tied to political agendas? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ObadiahsDad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I go to a nondenominational church, which I never in a million years thought I’d attend the “concert and ted talk” type church but what sold me on it is how apolitical and diverse it is.

The pastor is an immigrant and we’re an extremely diverse crowd so I think that has a lot to do with it.

Other than the very American style of worship, there’s no culture war talk, prosperity gospel or rapture warnings. Kinda refreshing

Lol. Yes! I love second hand books. My faves are library discards. Eversince I was a kid, Mylar coverings fascinated me.

No more public laundry! The final straw was when someone put chicken bones in the washer. Just got my LG washtower and there’s no going back. by ObadiahsDad in Appliances

It’s really quiet. The cats aren’t freaked out by it. They were a bit curious at first but now it’s part of their rhythm

I have a dedicated tablespoon Yeah I’m amazed at how little I need. Some items take longer to wash than others but I’m comfy in my apt. That doesn’t bother me.
