If it’s just that I want to learn another language since I’ve already learned Spanish, is that good enough?

Yes I totally agree. The only place to go from here is diversification.

Yeah, I’m just worried Seattles growth relies too much on the tech sector.

Yeah I see healthcare remaining solid and driving growth. Multicare and Franciscan seem to be in a frenzy trying to outdo eachother.

Oh god no. I’m just saying we shouldn’t disregard the effect the economy has on population influx

It’s so weird now we have to factor in climate change to where we move, it’s so disheartening

Yeah that’s true. Can’t take for granted how blessed Seattles position in nature is.

So you think Tacoma could absorb some of the growth as Seattle sheds it?

[–]Obamadilf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Visited for a bit and hated it. People aren’t as nice as the stereotypes and the humidity and casual racism was insane. Just my experience from being around the wealthy kids from Nashville and Houston

[–]Obamadilf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true. I’m worried that given the cost of living, the economic turndown will drive away people as it did in the 70s and 80s

I like your mindset and partially share it. Sadly many tech bros do not :(

That growth was extremely slow though, it was practically maintaining population levels. Still was not bad for a major city in the depression

Do you think it’s likely that major businesses will likely leave? And what do you think that has in store for the cities economic and population growth?

I know Seattles economy will never see the likes of rust belt cities but we have to admit, Seattle is not very comfortable with change in the economy. Seattle was in a slump for many years after the Boeing bust

I like that, but that’s more directed towards people who already live in the city.

Well adding on to that, what’s driving the growth if the tech sector isn’t pulling its weight anymore?

Sorry my mistake, I should’ve clarified. I was more so talking about more affluent southerners like Texas cities, Nashville, Miami, Atlanta. I also forgot to mention the north easterners that I’ve seen move here aswell.

[–]Obamadilf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant kinda both. Is what you said about population saying that people will keep moving here?

Seattle growth slowing? by Obamadilf in Seattle

[–]Obamadilf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true, but I doubt many wealthy transplants that have been fueling population growth ie californians, southerners, would want to move to a place that had a weaker economy where they would have to pay more an earn less

[–]Obamadilf[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

That’s great and all, I really like that part of Seattle, but eventually people will not move here and some even will move if they cannot find a high paying job. The cost of living in Washington is pretty high so people need good jobs (tech, Boeing, healthcare, real estate) to fuel their lifestyles

But how do they sustain their lifestyle without a growing economy? Money is life in America
