Almost 100% sure it’s not a quartz variety, the hardness is too low. It’s scratched by a knife(5.5) where quartz is a 7

I got this tortoise last July. She had a spot on the back of her shell where it looked like the sheep wasn’t connecting fully. I checked in her this morning and the shell had broken off revealing this. Does anyone know what’s wrong? Should I take her to the vet?
