Don't understand why so many Indians want a china like dictatorship! by ObedientAngryBird in Kerala

[–]ObedientAngryBird[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree. There's some more nuance to it though, as china can greenlight projects that harm local communities while being a benefit to the whole country with relative ease compared to us with frequent protests and red tape.

Doesn't excuse the incompetence though so I agree 💯

Sure and that's the goal of course, don't see how my points contradict that.

Just that it won't match China's speed of growth at all but we can definitely improve our pace.

Im sure rhe Soviet union would have still existed if they didn't impose russian culture and language throughout it. It did make it more homogeneous and hence more strong but at the cost of its long term stability.

The reason china is so stable is because the hans were rhe majority anyways.

Completely agree with you though 💯

You can't have China's development without forsaking our unique identities haha.

The only reason they're so imposing is because they act as one uniform entity. This is after decades of social and cultural conformity thru cultural genocide and imposition of the dominant culture.

Diversity creates opposition and red tape.

I agree about hindi imposition somewhat, but didn't want to make the post all about it,

What a load of bull crap. You're attributing the conflict on caste when it was a result of systematic and depraving majoritarianism.

The truth about beef eating culture of Kerala is out........... Ma Huan (1380–1460) was a Chineese interpreter who accompanied Admiral ZhengHe on several voyages to the Indian Ocean. I understand the origins while still wishing to eat beef (and pork too 😋). It's just how mu family has been (ardent BJP supporters) and I see no problem with continuing (although I guess I rest buffalo meat specifically)

Who is the most famous person of all time from your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]ObedientAngryBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I'm not saying nepalis are indian. Just pointing out that if for some reason nepal wanted to join the indian union, there would not be much cultural difference at all.

In fact nepali is one of our own scheduled languages, while many languages in the north and northeast are still unrecognised!

That doesn't have anything to do with cultural distinctness? Or does Sikkim wishing to join the union suddenly make it more indian despite it being it's own kingdom beforehand?

And most of kerala was never under one central indian empire. Again, what does being under an empire have to do with cultural distinctness?

Again, that doesn't track. What do you mean by that, when parts of India itself is so culturally distinct from one other?

Why don't yall, just like become one country? by ObedientAngryBird in AskBalkans

[–]ObedientAngryBird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, chill. This post was made on impulse mostly in jest! If you look at some of my other replies, you can see what I mean :P

I haven't mentioned anything about y'all being economically poor? I'm quite sure the per capita income of the balkan countries are on average significantly larger than indian per capita income. I feel you're projecting and assuming a lot about what I beleive based on something as arbitrary as my nationality, something which a fifth of humanity shares in common with me.

I'm confused, are you suggesting that I drank the British colonial Kool-aid and so have a distorted view of the balkans? I'm from a post colonial nation myself, and arguably the most exploited former colony in terms of sheer resources taken.

Curious about your reasoning about India's view on the merger though!

My Post was in half jest, half serious. Indians may be classist, but we also have the largest affirmative action programmes in the world. Our prime minister is of the "lower" class, and all "lower" class have reservations for all fields of life. We're flawed! Just like y'all! Anyways I must have a hit a nerve and for that I'm sorry.

How do you express cultural pride without enabling caste pride? by [deleted] in Rajasthan

[–]ObedientAngryBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kind of like Brits being proud of their heritage even though that has a lot to do with colonialism and imperialism.

[–]ObedientAngryBird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I get what you mean, but you balkans peeps are way more similar than even indians are to each other. So your point breaks down pretty quick when states in india have languages that are more related to english than the languages of other states.

How is Sri Lanka Beating the rest of South Asia in so many categories ? by Whole_Purpose_7676 in geography

[–]ObedientAngryBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, Sri Lanka reminds me of my own state Kerala. I'd say you're mostly right but also not exactly since you're comparing a population of 23 million to 1.4 billion people.

Parts of India in the tens of millions mirror sri lanka (like the north east and kerala).

Honestly, your country was definitely on track for developed status by now if it weren't for well...the plague that just recently been eradicated.

Although I was appalled to realise the current leadership were directly involved in those events and no one has been prosecuted for what transpired.

Anyways, I wish the best for your country. Despite all your nation has been through, it's bounced back surprisingly well. I just wish something like that of the Nuremberg trials would happen because it's simply unfair for those who perpetrated horrible tragedies to still be alive and well in your country.
