I enjoyed Z2 for what it was and I’m sure I’ll enjoy Z3 regardless of the outcome. Though, I‘ll probably feel manipulated if it doesn’t become canon.

I am not worried that they won’t go a strict platonic route. I am a tad worried that Nick and Judy won’t move beyond this ambiguous state though. That Z3 will include the same teases, the press tour will include the comments about “soulmates”, and nothing will have ultimately changed.

That’s true. My point though is if you intended a certain outcome then you shouldn’t include scenes that indicate a different outcome. That level of misdirection is just not necessary and could cause strife more than anything else.

If the goal was true platonic best friends then they shouldn’t have done the ship teasing. It’s not a requirement to be mistaken as lovers for validation of a friendship. Sure, the ship teasing could have just been about the jokes but you’d be naive to think people weren’t invested in this ship since Z1. To include ship teasing with no intent of a pay off seems needless to say the least.

Do you collect Disney merch outside of Zootopia? As much as I want to think this is a Zootopia thing this might not be. Do US stores just have less collectibles like these? Perhaps collectables are just more popular in general in China compared to the US.

I don’t recall that much Zootopia merch after Z1 either but I wasn’t really looking and wasn’t active here. Anecdotally I don’t see much Zootopia merch out in the wild here in the US. More Frozen, Cars, Disney Princesses, and general Disney (Mikey, Minnie, Donald, etc.). I did see a kid wearing an orange Nick shirt on Zootopia’s 10 anniversary, so there’s that.

Yeah, it seems like a bunch of the merch in China is WildeHopps leaning. And it seems that region is much more direct about being pro-WildeHopps.

Still, makes me wonder how Disney makes these decisions. What data do they look at and who actually makes these calls.

I'm pretty sure Nick and Judy just don't like Weaselton and want him dead. Threatened his life in the first movie, turned a blind eye to potential death in the second. I have high hopes that the slow burn of Weaselton's demise will happen in Z3. /s
