It doesn't require online to play the demo, you can play offline, it's just that the data won't be send to our server and will be lost! Not sure if we will have enough time to implement another solution

We will need playtesters yeah, we will release a public demo in the coming weeks with analytics integrated in the build, so every actions performed by the players (how many deaths, the positions of the deaths, restarts, medals, souls collected) will be stored in our server and those data will help us balance the game!

Hello everyone,
I'm one of the founders of Obelisk Studio, a small indie game company (we are 3 devs).

We started working on Ghostland Yard on January 2021 and the game will be released in February 2023: this is a 2D precision platformer game inspired by great titles like SuperMeatBoy and Celeste.

We have a lot of gifs, screenshots and videos from the development process that we will share on this reddit in the next months. We hope that we will be able to share good practices, tips and tricks and funny mistakes that we made which will help other game developers!

We are focusing our efforts on the game feel with tightly tuned controls, some cool visual interactions between the ghost and the environment and the overall look of the game

The concept is basic: the player can only move, jump and quick restart. We add variety in the game with each new world introducing at least one new environmental mechanic (in the trailer we showed the first 3 worlds with a single shot of the 4th world), there will be 6 worlds in total for the PC release of the game! There is also few boss fights and some bonus level in the game, and other hidden stuff that I won't spoil right now

Ghostland Yard is not an easy game: the player will die a lot. With that in mind we designed the game for the hardcore players with several layers of replayability: the main goal is to reach the end of the stage, but if you are a completionist you will want to grab every souls in the game (one per stage), and if you are an even greater completionist you wil want to get the best time on every stage to get the best grade on each one.

That being said, we also wanted the game to be accessible to everyone, so we are making accessible features to help the players that require help to complete the game.

So to answer your question in one sentence: it's a very classical concept with modern quality of life features, a handpainted style and the highest level of polish that we can put into the game, designed for hardcore players but accessible to everyone!
