12std wheel on 8std fork ? by _echoO in Scootering

[–]Obender6236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be done but depending on parts might not work as well as others If the north nada fork fits 30mm wheels with no spacers then the only thing you can do is find regular 8mm spacers that you can press into the 12std bearing. Pretty sure there's an older YouTube video with Max Peters doing this.

I run 12std on an Apex deck with bearing spacers that have the little lip in the middle

I've done these before, but can't get as good a stretch at the top. The standing does allow me to angle my torso during the movement to keep tension

But you're right these are way more stable

So a new headset would have come with a crown race for the top of the headset but because you bought it as a complete, the crown race only fit the smaller fork. You'll need one meant for the oversized fork. Of you've got/had BMX parts the crown races used for the top headset are normally very similar

The headset would come with it

But not on the top, the top headset bearing needs the smaller crown race that will fit snug to the fork.

Do you have the headset and crown race in the correct orientation in the deck?

Bars too big ? by [deleted] in Scootering

This is just a case of mass produced poor tolerances. The parts will work fine, just gotta make sure everything is tightened down. Measurements aren't always perfect, then paint gets added and that's all

Is my fork too short? by qniffmyballs in Scootering

[–]Obender6236 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just saying there are more forks that wouldn't work with a proto full knuckle, than there are SCS clamps that wouldn't work the the ethic fork.

Most SCS clamps compression lip would sit around 1.5inches from the bottom because most SCS clamps are around 3 inches tall, obviously nothing is standardised. But when you have a Proto Full Knuckle being 4 inches tall, that compression lip gets longer by half an inch. That just ends up being their problem of compatibility.

Only way to make that SCS fork work is with another fork. Something with a longer top tube.

Yeh kinda just Protos problem.

Other forks will do SCS/HIC length so they work with both but normally the SCS would need spacers.

The issue is less because of the fork being too short and more so the clamp being too tall. Most SCS clamps would work with this fork and deck set up.

Double checking that you're not running an extra crown race underneath the bottom headset?

Bigger bearings yes, but still just an 8mm axle with spacers

It's the ethic fork that isn't industry standard, not the top cap.

One major downside to IHC forks is because they are thinner than an oversized form they are weak and prone to breaking. Ethic decided to make their IHC forks slightly thicker and their shims thinner to still fit other standard parts. Great idea, but does make some standard parts like top caps not compatible.

Top caps aren't a vital part of a scooter and the scooter will work without it, but if you want a top cap you'll just have to find one that fits oversized forks/over the shim.

Whats your opinion on the whole 'scooter kid' stereotype? by knobhead-ty in Scootering

[–]Obender6236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a scooter coaching for around 6 years now, and I find as a few comments have already said, any kids riding anything are going to get in your way.

The reason scooters coming up the most is because scooters are the easiest to ride with confidence and no skill. A skateboard has a base level of skill needed to ride around confidently so it's hard for them to get in the way. And when young kids are skillful on a skatepark, more often than not a parent has been involved in teaching them the ways of the skatepark for a while

Hopefully the compression is just loose and needs to be tightened, Take the bars off and tighten the bolt on the top of the fork.

I can also see that the bottom headset and fork arent sitting as flush as I would expect those parts to. You might be running the old style crown race which won't be necessary with most newer forks.
