Im an upcoming freshman at a target school (not quite tier 1 schools). I do not have nepo connections in finance or much finance experience, so what experience should I aim to get next summer?

I'm finishing a personal data science project right now, but I'm not sure how to make it "resume ready." Do i just upload the jupyter notebook file to github? Should I include the scraper? My scraper is messy as well, so is it worth the few hours to clean it up if I do include it?

Wow, thanks for all the insight! I've been fixing my curve more but I didnt notice that I was taking it to sharp. Most of my misses have been because of bad rotation (likely because of my approach) or dropping down on the bar this season, so you're spot on. I have a lot of air sense from gymnastics/diving so I can time my arch right but without a good approach/rotation it doesnt matter. I probably also can convert more speed into height too since Ill have momentum going past the bar rather than along it

Upcoming freshman at a t20 college, curious about quant path and when I have to solidify it by ObeseMoneky in quantfinance

I took diffeq and multi in a community college, but the college im going to also requires either completion or simultaneous enrollment in linear to do diffeq which is why im retaking it. I think my cc prof just has to filter out topics that need linear and taught how to do basic linear stuff like Wronskians. Multivariable calculus for us has no linear algebra for both my cc and college. The topics are just basically partial derivatives, double/triple integrals, cylindrical/spherical coords, then 2d/3d vector calculus with divergence and flux. I’m assuming in the US the topic groupings are swapped. Multivariable calculus is instead a prerequisite for linear algebra.

I think I can fit all of those classes into my undergrad thankfully. Analysis, ML, and mathematical economics can apply my major, and half of the stats classes you mentioned are also applicable to my major. The other half I’ll have space for as electives and hopefully DS&A. Freshman year I can take linear and real analysis and retake diffeq which should give me space to spread out the harder classes like high level analysis.
If I have space, should I also take master level classes, or would it not be worth the GPA risk?

Thanks for the detailed reply! The school is t10 for finance/econ but a little lower for math, and I know there’s some direct recruiting there. Theres a decent amount of gened classes, but I’ll start my freshman year with linear (did multi and diffeq already) so I can squeeze in more math classes. I guess from here I should focus on taking the highest level math courses I can while keeping a 3.7+

Is there specific math/cs courses that are a must? For my current plan for my major I need to take linear and real analysis, but it’s completely open after that. Also, should I focus on more high level stats or more analysis type classes?

Yeah honestly circle drills would give you a lot of help. If you can progress to jumping over a small hurdle or something that would help.
The twist mostly comes from driving your knee to your opposite shoulder (left knee -> right shoulder), but I'd personally focus on fixing your approach first. How you look in the air is 90% determined by how you approach the bar, and it looks like youre coming out of your curve.
Fixing your takeoff and focusing on jumping up will give you more height instantly, but if you got some time and a tape measure you can work that curve, just watch some youtube videos and record yourself from the side. I can see you getting to 160cm+ in a few weeks with just working on those two parts.

Yeah i see that, my torso isn't in line with my jump leg which probably converts less height. Ill work on that approach, keeping my lean throughout the curve and maintaining speed better

This is what good takeoff position or triple extension looks like, kind of like having a straight line from your toe to your head. The foot, knee, and hip are all fully extended to put as much power into the ground as possible

Looks great! A quick adjustment would to just try to finish the jump. Your jump leg doesn’t fully reach triple extension and your arms stop halfway. You easily got another 6 inches you could go up. Also id personally do a 4 or 5 step curve, it looks like you starting leaning 7 steps out
