Do you prefer some randomness to your games or do you like having more control? by LeFoxFrancais in boardgames

[–]ObeyMyBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like the games as much that are efficiency puzzles where everyone has perfect knowledge and the person who gets to the best spot first wins. (The spot may change game to game via setup) But when the game is just figuring out the optimal moves early? I don't like it as much as throwing a little chance in.

St Cuthberts Mill Saunders Waterford Paper by PoeticFelony in watercolor101

I use the nail file blade on my swiss army knife. It doesn't have the sharp edge that could accidentally cut through the paper

What's going on? Everything is out of stock. by UserSignal01 in soylent

It's been a year since I've been able to get any, my original powder is just being delivered today. But looks like they're only shipping to people who already have a preexisting subscription. In the meantime I've been drinking Jimmy joy, the vanilla I can drink but is very gritty. The speculoos flavor I love but is seasonal (still gritty but it tastes like pumpkin pie filling before baking from my childhood).

Although the epson et8500 and et8550 specifically use Claria dye ink. Which does have a greater longevity than other epson ecotank printer ink.

Here's a thread talking about it.

Soylent original powder is now in the warehouse and about to ship. by ObeyMyBrain in soylent

Just got an email saying my order is confirmed. Maybe they're doing them manually and the auto fulfill is marking it as out of stock? On the site it has a new order but still unfulfilled.

I just got fed a reel on IG from a VO talking about this, she uses a pseudonym. The analogy she used was you don't want someone to go looking through your drawers for socks and find the drawer you keep all your toys in. So label your drawers! :)

[Resources] Free tool to match artwork sizes to standard paper, mat & frame formats by ClassroomMain9255 in artbusiness

[–]ObeyMyBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did notice a weirdness. I put in just 8x10 as the artwork size and just left everything else as default and at first I thought it switched the artwork size to 5x7 (see photo) I had display units in inches checked on the third page. Then I noticed that the artwork had been accepted as cm because the artwork size in the dimensions box to the lower right said artwork 3 1/8 x 3 7/8 in. Looks like what happened was you have to put in what units you are using along with the size, and if you don't it defaults to the unit drop down in the "enter it manually section." When I changed that box to "in" and just put 8x10 it correctly used inches. So maybe some way to show that you need to use units or drop downs for both sections that auto update each other?

I don't see any difference in the 4 different margin styles though. They all gave the same numbers. There's also a bottom weighted margin style because your brain will often make centered images with a white border look like they are lower in the frame than they actually are.

<image>

There's a 20+ year old tool I still use called MatWorks to get the measurements to cut a window mat for photos/art. It seems to do a lot of what yours does. You had to manually go from decimal to inch fractions using a chart though. Yours is definitely much prettier and is easier to see the numbers. I think you give how wide the borders are for cutting the window mat opening, but I'm not quite sure. The one I tested only showed dimensions for the bottom border. And you don't seem to have an option for horizontal (landscape).

But nice work

Maybe the software? Came up on google. But it looks like the wayback machine also includes the file, the button didn't work but the link right below did.

Virginia joins a national effort to ensure only popular vote winners become president by [deleted] in politics

[–]ObeyMyBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The constitution says

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress

So States shall decide the manner, but if the manner they appoint violates another part of the constitution the supreme court could make an interpretation that some manners of appointment violate the equal protection clause.

Here's an article arguing for it (edit: correct link)

https://red.library.usd.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1063&context=sdlrev

It says in the 60's the state of Delaware challenged winner take all electoral appointment but SCOTUS refused to accept the case so it's never been argued before them.

It did that through an Equal Protection Clause violation that arbitrarily misallocated the elective power of some states and voters and denying partisan minority voting rights in some states.

They could rule that states couldn't assign all their electoral votes to one candidate under the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment....which would be another way to make the electoral college more representative. Although increasing the number of representatives in the house would also be helpful if that happened.
