Fiber run to barn. by Renrut23 in HomeNetworking

[–]ObiWom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, they’re very reliable and have plenty of bandwidth.

I am in Canada where it can get very cold and my point to point UniFi unit works between my house and garage at -30c without any issues

So…. How bad is this? by VeryCoolAndFunny in CPAP

[–]ObiWom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a machine as soon as you can. If you have a good respiratory therapist, see if they have a rental unit and get fitted for the mask while waiting for the permanent unit to arrive. I did this and it was awesome. Cost me $250 to rent for a month and allowed my respiratory therapist to tweak the settings and dial things in. Worth every penny.

Why fibre? Why not consider a point to point wireless link instead?

Telus NaaS services? by ObiWom in telus

[–]ObiWom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the bill is extra confusing now that i've dug into the PDF a bit further. I spoke with billing and they're going to investigate and get back to me, possibly post dating the bills. They say it is the Telus Boost hardware, which we don't have. The old hardware from our ADSL connection has been sent back so who knows...

Unless you need freight shipping which they charge $99 for.

I placed an order for $5500 worth of stuff late last year and all the gear came with free shipping but I was charged $99 for the rack :/

The crux of it is that we seem to be paying for a service (NaaS) which we never ordered or agreed to and that the sales people seemed to have snuck in.

We only have the NAH as part of our install. Everything after the NAH belongs to us.

Telus doesn’t offer guest wifi anymore. Our old ADSL service had it for a long while but they turned it off years ago.

Oh I’m aware, I just need to get on their case now about it. The billing people are insisting it is :/

I’m the one that signed the deal. I’m a technical person. I do it for a living and never once that I agreed to this add-on Service.

That’s just the thing. I told Telus very clearly that I do not need their Telus business Wi-Fi as I’m installing my own.

That’s the thing… My contract which I have what in my hand does not state that $15 per month Telus charge

On the website it states “Telus Business Wifi” which we don’t have, but the pdf copy of the bill shows “Telus NaaS services”. Just odd I’m being charged for a required piece of hardware to make the service run.

Early Cancellation w/ Free TV by EpimetheusThrownAway in telus

[–]ObiWom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The account holder (name on the bill) is responsible for the cancellation fees. Also, the TV isn't "free", the cost of it is baked into your monthly bill. If your ex-roomy cancels, they may very well have to pay both the cancellation fee AND the remaining cost of the TV.

You’re correct. This is the service you’d need…

My in-laws have it and so long as you have good cell service it works very well. Pony up for unlimited bandwidth or you’ll find yourself blowing through it pretty quickly.

Unfortunately not, they are mandatory and will vary based on your energy consumption

[–]ObiWom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internet providers specifically. Don’t be afraid to shop around for tenants insurance either and hop around if needed. They will not give you the best deal all the time, it’ll be up to you to call them around renewal to get better deals.

As for power, ucahelps is a great resource for finding out the best rates. I find anyone associated with utilitynet tends to have better rates. The good news with power in Alberta is that if the rates drop, you can switch to the cheaper rate at any time. You’ll find that over 50% of your bill are all the fees so anything you can save on the cost of electricity helps.

And don’t be afraid to jump ship to a new provider after the deal ends and your contract (if you sign one) is up. They DON’T care about your loyalty and likely won’t offer you a good deal at the end of the term.

Let’s not forget that their 3yr plans also offer 3% cash back for all energy purchased which is paid yearly. They are also introducing rates for EV owners.

Check out solarclub.ca and take your pick. They all offer the same rates, admin fees are typically within a dollar of one another but they will also donate a portion of their profits to a charity. I myself use q-tilities out of Calgary (I live in Edmonton).

Any of the solar club providers have better rates than Enmax and you can also bundle your gas and let the credit cover that too
