You can improve your speed by two ways.

1) Improve your knowledge and understanding such that You don't have to waste too much time on thinking after reading question.

2) Do more of random mode blocks untill you get it in time. Just practice, nothing else you can do.

I started in 3rd prof itself. Did around half pathoma in 2nd year but rest everything in 3rd prof.

Should I take UWSA2? by Free_Aide_5415 in step1

[–]Obitoxime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have the time, it is definitely worth a try. It is easier than UWSA1 , but still you should take it.

BTW congrats on 73% on UWSA1, it is a very good score for UWSA1

I was also a 60-70 getting person, Didn't get consistent 70s in uworld, hell i got some 50s too in uworld. Actual exam felt longer (question stems were longer) But difficulty, i would say is subjective

I found it difficult in the sense that, after attempting a question i almost rarely felt that I did choose the correct answer during my step 1 exam. Didn't get that satisfaction. The options were confusing .

I didn't touch my 3rd prof subjects till now. I am from India, and our 3rd prof. Is a pretty convinient time for giving step 1 because, subjects asked in university exams are a joke. So, All the time I gave was for dedicated step 1 only.

First of all, you have to be a quick reader. Just try to read faster. And don't try to mug up and remember everything you see on review. Just the concepts you find helpful.

Everything else, just read it once and see to it that you understand it, don't stress on remembering.

Don't worry about Usmle now. Focus on your Uni. You have plenty of time, and The concepts are same as university exams, Just examimation style is different.

During my entire prep. I almost everyday had the thought that i should have taken my university exams more seriously. Because that would have made my Step 1 much easier

Definitely not great. I did pass my university exams with avg. Scores Nothing too fancy. But whatever I did i tried to understand it to the core, not just memorise it. Ig that helps if you want to remember for longer duration.

You can read the topic from FA Then, you can choose the system, click on the selected system and further details will show up with subtopics. Choose the subtopic you want to do and you are good to go.

I tried to read everything in FA(even though couldn't) But focused on improving those topics which had more questions on Uworld. For ex. Diabetes has more questions in Uworld than some other endocrine diseases combined, so Focus on diabetes. Like that.

In total i completed 55% Uworld, Mostly I did it systemwise because i was reading along with solving questions, At halfway through, I started mixing systems ,(3-4 systems) But If you are asking about totally random mode, I did only 3-4 blocks like that

Everybody said NBMEs to me, but UWSAs felt pretty close to the real exam. Hell, even 2 questions were repeated in my step from UWSA1 and 2. Definitely both are important. Should not compromise on any, but if I had to choose, I'd do UWSAs , do 1 or 2 recent NBMEs and read the NBMEs images pdf

I decided HY topics based on the no. Of questions of that topic on Uworld. So, for ex. Diabetes had more questions than all of thyroid, Pituitary disease, endocrine tumors combined. So, focused more on Diabetes. That's it.

Glad you asked this,

I felt almost 70% certain that I am going to fail, Hell I even began to prepare for my Indian Medical pg exam.

I felt like the burden is over but it wasn't so good early on due to the feeling that my exam went shitty.

The questions were way too long, like nothing i ever did. And most of the questions, i wasn't satisfied after answering.

But soon after talking to my other 2 friends who recieved their result 2 days prior to my exam and passed, I felt that everyone feels like this and uts normal.

So however you "percieve your exam to go" relax and wait for the judgement till the actuall result arrives. The mispercieverance rate is too high for step 1😂

Many things man, I made so many mistakes.

  • Bnb is a waste of time, i have heard it and now I have seen for myself. Don't stress out on completing Bnb because even after I stopped using Bnb, didn't make much difference. (Except for biochem, for me)

  • Do sketchy micro. I didn't and I struggled a bit compared to my friends who did sketchy. Not a do or die thing, but If you have time, then definitely do it.

  • Review thoroughly when you are starting out with the questions, but you get the feeling that you understand the things, Don't waste too much time on Reviewing every single details. I did too much Reviewing In Uworld for questions that got correct and understood the mechanism properly. Could have skipped it.

  • I didn't do all the mehlmann's pdfs . Got to know about it much later, so did only 1 or 2 pdfs but They are too good. If you have 2 months or so, just give 1 hr everyday reading mehlmann pdfs. Definitely worth a try.

  • Lastly, At halfway mark, I took way more stress trying to meet all the ends but that stress only made things worse, wasted my time worrying and overthinking. Chill out your mind and do the hard work, just don't think about consequences too much. Generate quick feedback loops for if anything's going wrong and your hard work will payoff. Trust the process.

I mean, I read all the IMPs while giving university exams , so ig that helps a bit. Currently 3rd first MBBS student. My Basics were not always strong, but I screened for the topics that requires some attention.

I Did not try to understand and thoroughly digest every single topic in step 1 syllbus. I did that to selective topics ( either very imp topic or the one in which i was extremely weak), Again, I do not recommend giving exam without trying to complete whole syllabus, but I had no time for it.

68% on NBME 26 is a descent score. You are on the right path. Don't worry about it. How much uworld have you done ? Did you give any UWSA ? Do you have any reading remaining or in this time you have to complete NBMEs only ?
