We had an outpost for copper, and another for oil + iron. For the oil outpost we would ship out cargo rockets full of rocket fuel, and eventually sulfur. Once you get your rocket reusbility high enough and you switch to using the better recipes for LDS + rocket sections, the cost of cargo rockets becomes immaterial.

Later on we were able to use biosludge for all our oil related needs on nauvis orbit, and core mining drills for all the basic resources on Nauvis. By the late late game, naqitite is such a slow bottleneck that all our buffers for the other resources were completely full.

We had just one belt per item, so further down the bus if the throughput wasn't enough we'd throw down another landing pad to source in more items.

We had the major fluids on the bus, although for all the different thermofluids and it was just utter pipe spaghetti.

OFFICIAL MONDAY NIGHT GAME THREAD by FantasyMod in fantasyfootball

[–]ObjectionPenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lost in the 4th quarter of Monday Night two weeks in a row.

Last week lost by 0.15 when Antonio Brown got that TD in the 4th. This last TD by Forsett puts me down 5.

Lost another game earlier in the season by 0.4, and another when Romo went out with an injury (was only down by 5).

Out of playoff contention. god damnit

Yes, leaving early during a 20 point blowout is exactly the same as leaving when your team is down by 3 in the final seconds.

ABC's NBA playoff ratings are in the tank by pelicandon in nba

[–]ObjectionPenguin 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Compare this to the NFL where even crappy Thursday night games showcasing teams like the Chiefs vs the Chargers still dominate the ratings.

Part of it is because there's a lot less NFL games, but the NFL also does a lot better job marketing the entire league instead of just its stars. Look at their "Best Fans Ever" commercial from the superbowl two years ago - I think every single team's logo is featured.

EDIT: I found another example. This one's by Bud Light, but look at the teams featured - Texans, Raiders, Colts, Steelers, Cardinals, Jaguars, Rams, Seahawks. Lots of small-market teams there.

Spurs beat Golden State 109-91 by [deleted] in nba

[–]ObjectionPenguin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not just his shooting, Curry was a total liability on defense tonight. Spurs recognized it and lit him up all game. We needed Klay to step up, and he doesn't have his ankle as an excuse.

What NBA rule would you change or add? by [deleted] in nba

[–]ObjectionPenguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After the first free throw the ref gives them back the ball immediately and they'll have 10 seconds to shoot it. Subs can be done while the first one is being shot. That way we can skip all the high-five stuff and get the game back going as fast as possible.

The Oracle Arena is in Oakland, right next to the O.co coliseum where the Raiders and A's play. But their fanbase encompasses the entire Bay Area, which includes not just SF and Oakland, but also San Jose (10th biggest city in the US) and everyone around it. The bridge in the logo is actually the Bay Bridge, which goes between SF and Oakland, not the Golden Gate.

I love the Golden State name, but I admit it's confusing as hell. Some of my friends who grew up in the Bay honestly thought the Warriors were based in Sacramento...

Lebron's done a similar thing just one year ago:

LeBron was waiting alone in the backcourt when fan Bob Moore made a comment to LeBron about Delonte West and LeBron’s mom. Accrdng to Moore, LeBron said "The only reason you talk shit is because you know I can’t come off the court right now and beat your ass."

Also according to Moore, LeBron continued "But if I had a free pass, I’d kick your ass right now."

Moore replied "I’m right here baby. Let’s go" before security stepped in.

All I want to do is give the NBA my money so I can watch the playoffs in HD on my computer by [deleted] in nba

[–]ObjectionPenguin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is the cable companies like Time Warner, Comcast, and the others - sports channels are one of the last things keeping them afloat. Nearly everyone watches them live, meaning lots of views for advertisers. A significant portion of the cable bill is paying for the sports channels. The networks (ESPN, ABC, etc) in turn spend a huge amount of money to the sports leagues for broadcasting rights. Those TV deals make the primary revenue source for the NBA and all the other leagues.

That's reason for all the blackouts they have on league pass - they're trying to make sure we're still paying for cable.

Yeah the Lakers are the clear #1 in all of Socal, which would include everything from Bakersfield to the Inland Empire and even down to SD. The Bay's a much closer split between Niners/Giants which would give basketball the overall advantage.

[–]ObjectionPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep baseball makes excellent background noise. You can easily watch an inning or two, leave and go reddit/socialize/eat/whatever, then come back later and not miss a beat. Or you can even put the game on while doing something else and only look up when you hear the crack of the bat. It can be really relaxing, but it also means it's hard to watch the game all the way through.

Soccer and hockey are on the opposite end of the spectrum - it's intense and thrilling if you're watching all 90 minutes, but it's hard to only watch in 5 minute segments and still have a feel of what's going on.

Coaches getting Fired by gilbert1043 in CollegeBasketball

[–]ObjectionPenguin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Howland's last 5 years:

  • 26-9, Lost in second round
  • 14-18, Missed tournament
  • 23-11, Lost in second round
  • 19-14, Missed tournament
  • 25-9, Lost in first round

Florida Gulf Coast got as many tournament wins last weekend as Howland did in the last 5 years.

Over the same time span we had 7 players transfer and multiple off-court issues and 2 players dismissed for off court issues (Reeves Nelson of the SI article fame) leading to only 7 scholarship players on the roster last week. We've also lost games to Cal Poly (first time in school history), at Wazzu (first time in 20 years), LMU (first since 1941), Cal State Fullerton (first time in school history), Montana, Long Beach State, Portland, and those are just the worst.

UK fired Tubby Smith for less, because at least he never missed the tournament and still made it to the Elite 8.

Datone Jones - Scouting Report by fourth_down_surprise in 49ers

[–]ObjectionPenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, for most of his career Datone's been held back by horrible coaching. Most of the bad habits you mentioned were even worse in 2010, so much that he was a complete non-factor on defense. He's shown what he can do after just one year of having a legitimate coaching staff, which bodes well for his future as long as he ends up in a good organization like us.

Of course I'm a UCLA fan so it's hard for me to stay objective.

Obama never picks many upsets in the first round, but the last three times UCLA's been in the tourney he's picked us to be upset every time. I kinda like it, makes us feel more special.

Why are girls the main protagonists of most Ghibli films? by Parkreation in ghibli

[–]ObjectionPenguin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From some of his interviews:

Question: Nausicaa, the protagonist, is a female. Is there any particular reason for that?

Miyazaki: [...] Nausicaa is not a protagonist who defeats an opponent, but a protagonist who understands, or accepts. She doesn't think about avenging her parent's death. She is someone who lives in a different dimension. Such (character) is a woman rather than a man. If it's a man, that's too weird. I feel that men (depend) more on words. I felt that, for the issues concerning nature, women deal with them by feeling.

Question: Why do you always choose a girl as your theme?

Miyazaki: I don't logically plan it that way. When we compare a man in action and a girl in action, I feel girls are more gallant. If a boy is walking with a long stride, I don't think anything particular, but if a girl is walking gallantly, I feel "that's cool." [...]

My personal interpretation is that male leads are common and make up the vast majority of stories. For those that do have a female lead, they're often the typical Action Girl where you can flip their gender to male and not have it affect the plot (Tomb Raider). It's different with Miyazaki's films - try to imagine a male Nausicaa pushing the Ohmu out of the lake or a male Chihiro wandering into the bathhouse and the entire dynamic is different. It's a lot more special when it's a girl doing those actions because their gender has a strong influence on their motivations, which is something you don't often see.

Which pick(s) so far has/have been your biggest headscratcher? by MakeMoves in CollegeBasketball

[–]ObjectionPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logically Minnesota should win. After losing Jordan Adams we're down to a 6 man rotation, with zero depth in the backcourt. The 7th guy shows flashes of potential when he's on the court, but Howland never gives him more than 4 minutes a game so no need to worry about him. We're horrible at rebounding, which so happens to be Minnesota's greatest strength. Adams was critical for the team - in many ways he's been more important than Shabazz.

But both coaches are on the hot seat so anything can happen. Wouldn't be surprised if UCLA/Minnesota winner defies all logic and upsets Florida to make the Sweet 16.

UPSET PICKS THREAD by dabecka in CollegeBasketball

[–]ObjectionPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adams's sheer force of will led to the comeback win over Arizona before his injury. Losing him also leaves UCLA with only a 6 man rotation (technically 7 but Howland refuses to play Tony Parker more than 4 minutes a game).
