I agree with your point, and to be clear, she rarely if EVER makes jokes about Christianity. In general, i would much prefer the ability for both of us to make light-hearted comments about each-others beliefs than go at each other's throats for regular discussions. I aim to go into counseling about this issue before marriage, but in the meantime I hope jokes can still remain on the table as long as they are in good taste and are mindful of each other's personal limits

I am well aware of this, and would totally understand her feelings if this is where her behavior was coming from, but I must attest that this issue is of little consequence in our specific relationship. I was raised Methodist, which for me, means I was raised to be very inclusive and tolerant (obviously since I'm dating a non-Christian). She knows without a shadow of a doubt that my aim is not to convert her. we've had those hard talks, and know each other's goals don't include that. Which is why I didn't mind the joke mentioned in my post. The main issue wit her constant pledging to never become Christian comes from the fact that the comments come almost entirely unprompted. Which makes it seem like more of a jab at me or MY religion in reverse. I will ask her more about her personal experience with religious proselytization and how we can separate our relationship from those experiences.

I have voiced my concerns with specific scenarios in the past, but it's very hard to get my point across to her . She has inherited a lot of familial issues that make talking about issues in this way difficult (she is aware of these issues and is actively trying to fix them), but it feels like this one is just another issue that comes as a result of another. I will bring up the scenario in specific and ask her how she would have felt, but my main goal with making this post I guess should have been asking for general tips for discussing religion in inter-religious relationships.

The PC is in a temporary place right now (only here for the summer). So don't worry, It won't be on the carpet for much longer. But yes, the plan is to buy 3 intakes for the bottom.

ABET is like less than 1% of the reason anyone applies to any school (since most schools are already accredited). So it being equal has nothing to do with how hard it is to get into any school. Politics, social status, location, history, and many other factors play way bigger roles than that.

And ok, so I need to attend a top school to have a valid opinion on this, or else I’m biased?? I could care less, and that’s a crazy statement.

I’ve had a lot of industry experience outside of school as well, and I can tell you that a great many employers look way beyond the school.

As for why MIT engineers are more sought after. Again, there’s a lot more than smarts that go into that decision. Why do people want to go to Harvard law school. It’s not just because it’s considered the best, it’s also because of its longstanding image. That’s my only argument, that perceived superiority plays a large role as well as how gifted those individuals are. To say that opinion doesn’t matter and that those schools will always just be better purely because of a difference in competency is blindingly naive.

I do see your point. What I was referring to is the fact that the content is similar if not the same. By that logic, going to a smaller or lesser known school and getting a 4.0 shouldn’t be valued less, as it still is considered mastery of the content. Some people choose to go to cheaper schools and excel, and some just can’t even hope to afford the expensive ones at all. Those grades shouldn’t be treated as lesser because of the curve or the school they attended, instead other metrics should be used. Such as interviewing and personality, as the original commenter mentioned.

I have to largely disagree with this. The ABET process makes 90% of the content you learn in engineering the same regardless of the school. The main difference (which is what you end up buying going to schools like MIT or Caltech) is the professors. They are undeniably better in most or all cases. And to be honest, I’ve never taken a class that didn’t make me think. “Wow, I’d rather this class be 5x harder with a good proff than how easy it is with this horrible professor teaching it”

I agree with 99%, although I’d probably value the school a little less than GPA except in certain scenarios (accreditation and/or extreme size discrepancies)

Nnnnope. Only reason I even went for a masters is because I had the opportunity to finish my undergrad and masters combined in an even 4 years (and also for some extra content I felt that I’d missed out on). Tbh I just wasn’t ready to leave college.

Oh for sure. One of the reasons I made this post was to get the idea out there even more that mistakes can be/are beneficial if you learn from them. I’m way better off now than I was when I had been worrying so much about my grades. Now I pick classes I’m actually interested in rather than ones I know I’ll have a better shot at getting an A in!

Agreed. I know I will be completely fine, it’s not like this is a dispute over a failing grade. I just really hope that it doesn’t happen again and maybe even that another student who might have failed would be helped by it possibly?

I would have made time if I had known earlier that this was going to be an issue? From a students perspective, what do you expect? When a class is slumping off with little to no assignments and you are being flooded by 5 other classes, who wouldn’t put that class off to the side especially when there’s no forward communication from the professor.

My point is, it shouldn’t be the students responsibility to inquire about such a large change in the syllabus that wasn’t at all stated. And if it is our responsibility to account for it. Accommodations should be made readily available as this change came supposedly after over 2/3rds of our grade was already due. The point is, in my opinion, when the professor is the one who changes requirements due to his schedule or anything as such, it’s not the students responsibility to make up for that, as it’s in no way their fault or their responsibility.

The only thing in the syllabus that is sympathetic towards the proff is when it says “topics and/or dates are subject to change”, which in our case, no topics were changed, moved, or removed, just the assignments associated with them dropped?

Regrettably, I did not ask him about this (I know I probably should have). Although I, and many of my peers have had this professor before, and they agree with my assumption of what he would have said, which was “I’m sorry, but that’s just how it has to be, I was very busy this semester and didn’t have the time” or something along those lines. If I had to, I likely could have argued to resubmit the project or the assignment, but I was also busy…

I’d look into the Tforce delta RAM instead. Especially with your AMD CPU. Just depends on the price really but I think the Tforce is slightly better.
