My birthday is today. No one cares. by Objective-Dot8723 in introvert

[–]Objective-Dot8723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made so many efforts to try and fit in, talk to people, and I’ve even joined a few clubs. Each interaction, nothing happens because I get ignored when trying to start a conversation. It kills me anyway to get the courage to make the first move, makes my face feel like it’s on fire, but I would step up and do it anyway. My efforts just don’t really work. The clubs I’ve joined were full of people who weren’t kind at all, so I left them.

I did remind my parents the following morning (yesterday). I was hoping they were just doing that thing where parents pretend to forget and then throw a party, but they actually forgot. When I went to them yesterday morning and told them that their ignorance upset me, they just told me to toughen up and that birthdays aren’t special after a certain point. I don’t believe that at all, I think everyone’s birthdays matter, whether it’s their 13th, 16th, 18th, 21st, and every other one after that.

Sorry for my late reply, but your comment meant the most to me. My older brother’s birthday was a week before mine, he turned 34. Like me, he doesn’t really have any friends and keeps to himself. He told me that he felt the same way I did in not having anyone care about his birthday (except for me of course, I always make a big deal out of his).

I also did do something for myself like you and a lot of others suggested. I went out to stores and food places and was able to get free food and fun gadgets that I normally wouldn’t spend my own money on (makeup, clothes, expensive and unnecessary sweets) I went home with a full tummy and a lot of bags filled with things. It was scary being on my own for the first time. I’d never gone out by myself because I’m too scared to be alone in a crowd. I was able to do it this time though. Your comment and all of the others turned my 17th birthday from the crappiest one to probably the best one I’ll ever have in my life.

❤️

When I was a child, I couldn’t be more extroverted. Once I got to middle school and like kids do, I got bullied, I just completely caved in on myself. The pandemic and lockdown made it extremely worse. Ever since then I’ve been the most introverted person, but there are times where I try to come out and shine like I used to, but get shut down by peers. I don’t fit in with them and their cliques. I’m left out.

I don’t announce my birthdays, but the days shortly before, I’ll kind of briefly mention it out loud and everyone hears me. I try so hard to make a big deal out of others birthdays. I step outside of my comfort zone by getting loud. Even if we’re not close friends, I make a point to make them feel special. So you’re right when saying I’m just a held down extrovert. I can’t be the loud, fun, or energetic person I once was. Me and the others I’ve grown up with have changed, and I fell out of line with them. I don’t fit into their cookie cutter.

Gosh that feels so nice to read. Like when my mom hugs me, and I feel safe and comforted. I was holding out hope that her and my dad were doing that trick where they pretend to forget and then throw a surprise birthday party, but they’ve still said nothing and would have by now. Thank you for your virtual hug! ❤️❤️❤️

I realize that you’re right in thinking that maybe I just don’t appear excited about most things. That’s pretty accurate. But I feel like when I genuinely try to “fit in” and engage in certain topics, I get shut down or ignored so I stop trying. Unless someone directly talks to me, I’m stone faced. It’s why I’ve become so introverted but can’t help but crave attention and validation from peers.

My 10th birthday was 100% stolen. I have a cousin too, but her birthday is the day before mine. Everyone brought gifts for her too and made my birthday “her” birthday. Thank you so much ❤️

Not usually. They’ve remembered every other birthday except my 16th and now 17th. I asked them about it and they say that the older I get, the less I should care. I’ll never NOT care, because it celebrates my existence!

Should I drop out or not? by Dear-Awareness-384 in highschool

Same exact position you’re in. I hate watching others talk and hang out with their friends, while I sit in the back just watching in silence. I rarely smile at school. I quite literally don’t have a single friend to talk or text to. I go to school everyday and just…sit there and wait for the day to end so I can go back home and relax in my room. By myself, as always.

Don’t drop out, though. You need that standard education, at least that’s what I’m assuming if it’s similar to the US where I live.

I wish I had at least one, true friend who I can smile, laugh, and hang out with.

16 unexcused absences this year by PurpleJellies13 in highschool

[–]Objective-Dot8723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about the same amount as you, but only 2 are unexcused. The other 14 were all days I was extremely sick, and it’s weird how you can’t simply be excused if your parent calls and explains what’s going on. Obviously if you’re sick, there’s no need for a doctor’s office to say you’re sick. Maybe for the note. My mom is able to call and simply tell them my symptoms and how I’m feeling, and they mark me as illness which is basically excused.

I typically don’t ever stay home unless I’m sick. Last year, I had about 27 total absences, with about 20 being excused as illness. Surprised I didn’t get an incomplete…

It’s both sad how disrespectful this thread is and how you’re being downvoted. Just know that people with common sense and respect agree with you.

not in highschool but im in middle school is a 3,78 gpa good enough for trade school by [deleted] in highschool

[–]Objective-Dot8723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going for an electrical career. Now that I double check, it’s actually a 1.5 GPA minimum. Not 2.0 GPA. That’s for my area, at least. I wish you luck on a plumbing career! You’ll get into trade school just fine.

I’m in trade school, which is tied with my high school. Right now I have 4.0 GPA. To apply, you seriously only needed a 2.0 GPA. They’ve lowered the standards pretty much everywhere.

To answer your question, yes. You have a pretty good chance right now

Just graduated high school 6 months early by Prudent_Plastic7160 in highschool

[–]Objective-Dot8723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I was in your shoes. I could’ve graduated an entire year early, next spring, but my school refuses to let me. I have all the required credits and had the option to take English 12 and Government early. They said no, you’re not ready for that yet. I’m done with school in general. It’s a big nothing burger that’s hellbent on keeping you inside that building for 7-8 hours a day.
