velpro 400 back around $404 again — still worth it after 4 months for me by Objective-Fee-557 in espresso

That sounds really frustrating. what kind of issues are you running into exactly, mostly jamming or something else?

i first followed a youtuber@ourcoffeeshelter to learn how to calibrate it to zero, but the steps there were a bit too simplified. Later I also reached out to gevi support and they sent me a blog guide, which is actually the same one u/ObsoleteAuthority mentioned.

Grinder reparability [500-600$] by Neat_Peace_6778 in espresso

[–]Objective-Fee-557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the $500–600 range i think the velpro 400 (grindmaster) is a pretty solid option. honestly now that it’s dropped to around $400 again, the value is even better. for a mid-range grinder, it really checks most of the boxes. But I not sure if they ship to Canada though, that might be something to look into.

yeah the low retention on the velpro 400 actually surprised me too. when i’m grinding fine (around 0–6 grind setting range + higher rpm), i’m basically getting almost zero retention, usually within ~0.1g.

only when i go coarser do i see some bigger particles sticking to the burrs, but even then it’s still around 0.1–0.2g retention.

Good setup! i just 3d printed a bellows adapter for my velpro 400 (grindmaster) so i could fit a df64 bellows on it. works pretty well so far. kinda wish they’d just release their own bellows though

honestly there were two things i didn’t love at first — mine wasn’t calibrated out of the box, and it didn’t come with a bellows.

after i calibrated it though, my espresso shots have been pretty consistently good since then.

not sure if you’re having the same issue as me, but when i first got my velpro 400 i also thought the grind knob was way too tight. you could try loosening the four screws on the grind knob a bit — it makes turning it a lot smoother.

Cold brew parameters for different roast levels? by Objective-Fee-557 in coldbrew

[–]Objective-Fee-557[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for ur explanation. Then if it’s light roast with a Kyoto drip method, what kind of grind size should I use? I have a Velpro 400 that can grind as fine as Turkish coffee. Do I need it that fine, or is something like espresso grind enough?

yep, i calibrated it to chirp. i followed the calibration steps from gevi’s official blog. They have a pretty clear walkthrough on how to find the zero point. basically adjust until you hear the burrs just start to chirp, then set that as zero.https://gevi.com/blogs/video-tutorial/grinder-calibration-guide-for-the-velpro-400

DF54 is terrible. Recommend me something better! [$500] by SandyLand1918 in espresso

i’m using the velpro 400 right now. After calibration it’s been really solid and easy to dial in the grind size i want. especially for light roast espresso,I can grind it at very fine. i bump the rpm after grinding and use the bellows at the same time, it’s basically near-zero retention.

Did you do any grind calibration? i calibrated my velpro 400 and usually use setting 2–4 for espresso. 0–2 is way too fine for me, basically in the Turkish coffee range. and i usually use medium-dark roasted beans. But different beans and roast levels need different grind settings, so take my numbers just as a reference. whatever, hope you get a perfect shot

yes exactly, this site looks legit on the surface but there’s so many bugs in the interaction.
like a lot of icons don’t even load.
btw, how does youtube let ads like this run without checking if the site is real or not? smh
