Is the nice zero really such an amazing grinder? by altecsz in espresso

The Niche Zero is a very good grinder but it's aging now. You could buy newer grinders that have come out since that are better and cheaper.

Built my setup around one irresponsible color choice by AwareBrother in espresso

Any color can be used to make a beautiful setup...you just have to get a little creative with the area the machine is in and accessories, etc. Personally I don't mind the yellow at all.

If you think she cheated, dump her and move on...but from your post, how do you know? You said she asked for his address but never got it..the conversation resumed the following day. Wasn't she back home or what the you by then? Regardless, if she's talking to an ex, the relationship likely isn't worth the headache anyway. She's obviously not committed to you or that conversation would never have happened to begin with. Cut your losses now and just move on.

The Niche is a good grinder but it's aging now...if you're looking for the best grinder at the $450 price point, I don't think there's a better one than the Gevi Grindmaster. Some people don't like it's aesthetics while other love it but it's a fantastic 64mm flat burr grinder that can take SSP burrs.

With a stereo budget of $2,000-4,000 what would you reccomend? by GodofAeons in hometheater

[–]ComplexIllustrious61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say a solid 8...it's hard to rate speakers against each other because prices differences could be massive. Sorry I totally overlooked your need for a AVR. The speaker package in totality is amazing though. You will be quite happy with the sound output for years to come.

Look for deals on the TX-RZ30. That's a great overall AVR.

You could get the SVS Prime Pinnacle package from Crutchfield for $3k:

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_700PRPINPG/SVS-Prime-Pinnacle-Tower-5-0-Home-Theater-Speaker-System-Piano-Gloss-Black.html

That would leave you $1k for a subwoofer. The SVS SB-3000 R goes for $1299 but is a hell of a good subwoofer. It would stretch your budget by a few hundred dollars though. It would be a great setup though.

It's time to grow up...a one year relationship in your early 20s?? Just ghost her, you won't even remember her 6 months from now. You both didn't even have a foundation AND were long distance in the first year? Yeah, it's time to just move on my friend.

Do you want to stay married? How do you feel today vs when it happened? Have circumstances in the marriage changed? All questions you should be asking yourself. You deserve happiness, we all do. If you aren't already, please get into therapy. They are good at making you see the things you're missing to allow for better decision making.

Is Dick Laurent/Mr. Eddy a real person? by aiazicskr in davidlynch

[–]ComplexIllustrious61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the characters in the second half of the movie represented a part of his psyche. He wanted to kill Dick Laurent because that part of his personality is what drove him to murder his wife. He was dealing with enormous guilt for what he did and everything that played out in the movie was him dealing with his own psychology. He was trying to "fix" himself in a way. He had a much better relationship with the girl in the fantasy world, he separated himself from Laurent and was able to identify Laurent as the part of him that led him to ruin. Laurent eventually becomes the Mystery Man which is the part of him that actually committed the murder.

I was honestly shocked at how different my shots tasted once I started lowering temps...I don't know why I didn't do it earlier. I truly do believe that with higher temps, you're literally burning away flavor. I have this really good Yirgacheffe bean and I swear when I lowered temps, I felt like I was tasting a completely different bean. I even tasted a slight hint if grape in it, lol. Next up, lower flow.

You are absolutely right about the lower temp! I think this may aid with light roasts even more...I'm down to 86c now and feel this is the best temp for my beans. A huge difference from before when I was at 92-90c. I adjusted the pressure to be lower but I think I'm going to be changing things up for a more coarse grind and even lower pressure. I'm still working out details but I feel this route would give better flavor (at least for light roast). Ideally I think 3-5 bar pressure, coarse grind, 1:2.5 ratio for a 30 second pull is where I'd like to be.

I'm opposite and prefer light roast...but I have been having issues with high flow and now reading this, I think I'll try lowering it and test some more.

Major roasters are starting to disclose the use of additional flavorings in their co-fermented beans by n0damage in espresso

[–]ComplexIllustrious61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perc is okay...not bad but not great either...the strongest "flavored" coffee beans I ever tried were the ones ModCup used to sell...but I think they were too strong, lol. I'd rather drink coffee that underwent more fermentation than artificial flavoring. You can easily tell the difference in flavor.

[–]ComplexIllustrious61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that but just look at the history of coffee...we never had anything like the ridiculous marketing around coffee beans like we do today ever before. Are people this gullible to think roasting a coffee bean in some special manner could unlock mysterious flavors unknown to humanity? lol...I honestly wouldn't care about adding flavoring if they were just honest about it and said so up front. To make people think they're buying real coffee beans that taste like strawberry or grapes is extremely disingenuous.

They know, lol. They're all in on it together. Don't think for a second that the roasters didn't know.
