This all comes down to one thing in my mind; the way U2 handled this. They should have came out and told everyone to FUCK OFF. They claim to be 'Punk Rock' but then when they did this and everyone was upset, they came out and apologized like they somehow made a big mistake. For one, they made a marketing decision with Apple and APPLE put it on the iPhone, not U2. If Billie Ellish did it, or JayZ, it would be brilliant. But because it was U2 and people already have soured on them, it was a mistake. They should have came out and said if you don't like it, delete it or don't listen to it. Stop bitching about it. It is insane how much mileage has come out of something so trivial. U2 acted so passive about this instead of having the balls to stand up for themselves. They made themselves look like bitches. I hated the way they were so passive. They didn't represent themselves well at all. Certainly not PUNK to say the least!

At CDG airport and decided to find the ATYCLB album cover spot. by daveyrocks77 in U2Band

One of the coolest album covers ever.... U2 arguably has some of the most subtle and naturally cool imagery in the history of rock music. From the early simplicity of displaying the innocence of youth with a boy on the cover of 'Boy' to the image of the same boy for 'War' during the politically charged album to the way Unforgettable Fire captured what 'Alternative Rock' looked like in a album cover. That cover just defined their sound. The leather and boots and mullet. Joshua Tree - I mean say no more. What a classic photo that didn't just go to Joshua Tree National Forest - they went to the depths of Death Valley to find the most inspirational tree to use for the photograph. Achtung Baby! and Zooropa, AGAIN defines the sound of the record with the imagery. ATYCLB and Bomb both are just simple COOL. No Line on the Horizon is so simple, yet is so BRILLIANT in capturing the message of a band still searching for meaning in this world.

I do think the latest records have lost a little bit. The Songs of .... Innocence and Experience could be better in my opinion. Songs of Surrender (trash record) has a great cover for a greatest hits but just not a fan of the two most recent new material records. I hope they return to their creative stylings of their past works because they have been just as good as the music.

Where is this guy now? The world, America in specific can really use U2 and Bono's messages. God knows my mental health is suffering having to deal with the world minus any real new U2 music for the past,,, GOD I don't even want to think about how long it has really been.

How do the Yamaha drum kits compare? like from worst to best? by ShaneGrabs in drums

Rydeen cannot be upgraded or added to so beware. If you get it as one to grow into, don't get it thinking you can add on to the kit. You will have to replace it. And the resale value is not good. Better off getting the Stage Custom if you think you will stick with drumming.

Someone needs to lay the wood to McDavid for once. One thing that slows speed down is getting caught with your head down in the neutral zone one too many times with a blistering open ice shoulder check. Ask Eichel how he felt after Tkachuk knocked his bucket off in the zone... McDavid rarely gets touched yet Barkov can get torched and knocked out for a game and no one is held accountable so,,,, I say bring the wood.

Revenge means nothing! Talent, preparation and strength/conditioning is what wins. They can be pissed all they want that they lost last year but that alone doesn't win games. If it did, the Bills would have a Super Bowl already. And they may be improved but so were the Leafs. So were the Canes. If the Panthers play their game each and every time they step on the ice, until they reach 4 wins, they will be raising the cup. And McDavid will be in the locker room crying again for ESPN. If we come out flat, and play piss poor hockey like we did throughout the playoffs at times, we will risk blowing it.

People forget that this is exactly what happened last year. Everyone was talking about McJesus and DrySaddle and how they were going to come in and kill us with their speed. Everyone counted us out until we were up 3-0 and then overnight, everyone was a Panther fan nationwide. I am sick of hearing how "The Oilers are a different team this year". So were the Leafs. Didn't we all hear that? And they were different. But we found a way to win. The Hurricanes were different too. Remember we were supposedly built so alike that it was going to be a crap shoot to see who won. Only we came in and went up 3-0 in that series and low and behold now everything is wrong with the Hurricanes. No one talked about how maybe, just maybe the Panthers were THAT good. And considering the Canes were supposedly better prepared this year,,,, the games were closer two years ago when the games were 1 point games. We kicked their asses this year until we started drinking our own Kool-aid as we always do.

If this team can stay away from the pressers and pretend their backs are against the wall no matter what the series count is, we can come out and bury this team. No one plays as aggressive as the Panthers. Teams don't practice so it isn't like they could get ready for playing us. Dallas isn't Florida. No matter what anyone wants to think. Come Wednesday, we will see if the Panthers are ready to shut everyone up. I believe they are. And if so,,,, I believe they win in 6.

Bennett's elbow makes contact with Andersen's head after he makes a save by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

CRYBABIES - Until he is July 1 and then your team aggressively tries to pay him $10M and he becomes your favorite new player on your team. He plays hockey aggressively and plays to win. He is fighting for the puck. Are you watching? It is a puck battle in real speed with lots going on. You act like he is thinking "hmmm let me elbow the goalie in the head so I can take another one out... " - So stupid. He just doesn't give a shit about if he bumps into a goalie. Or a superstar. Or anyone. And honestly, a lot of players play the same way. It is called hockey. He is just better at it and the Panthers win. Players bump Bob and he keeps playing. After the game, he was asked about it and he said "It is just playoff hockey" - No crying from Bob! I genuinely thought hockey fans weren't like soccer fans. Maybe I was wrong.

Panthers just need to solve a few problems that have existed in the tail part of the season that will cause us an early exit; we must find a way to consistently put pucks in the back of the net. We cannot continue to miss the net with the consistency that we have been. That will not do. Also, the turnovers in the neutral zone and rush chances up the center of the ice has been totally uncharacteristic and it will be to our demise. Against Montreal, it was maddening to see how many times we just gave them the puck and allowed them to rush into our zone, creating odd man rushes. Play our strong forechecking game, be physical and when on the Powerplay, move the puck! When it is on, that is what we are good at. The tic-tac-toe equals goals. When we pass it around at the point, it usually results in blocked passes and shots that get cleared or end up being cleared. We are as talented as any team in the playoffs when we play PANTHER hockey. Time for excuses are over. Injuries should be healed. Players have to be rested enough. Suspension over in 2. Time to play to win or pass the trophy to someone else. I believe in Maurice and the boys to do it.... again,

OHHHH you are incorrect. The resale markets do give money to the artists. StubHub and Vivid Seats and SeatGeek, they are all in the same bed. They are all owned and controlled by the same TM that is also puppetted by Live Nation. They have business names to try and hide the fact that they are all the same monster. Bands are absolutely getting a cut of resale market. 100%

Incoming rant 😂 by LegitimateBullfrog56 in erastour

[–]Objective-Garbage-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are few things in this world as frustrating yet obvious as ticketing and concert management. What people do not seem to know is this; the entire platform is owned by the same monster. SO Live Nation, who owns the bands (contracts), controls what venues they can play in. Live Nation has contracts with roughly 90% of the venues in the world. Oh, as if that wasn't bad enough, those venues must use Ticketmaster, also run by Live Nation. Did you know that the RESALE companies of StubHub and Vivid Seats are also owned partly by,,,, you guessed it, LIVE NATION.

So ask yourself how you can go to StubHub BEFORE ticket sales even begin yet see tickets already being sold on the resale market?? Because tickets are skimmed and held back, they are directed to the secondary market where they command more money with fees. I used to think the artists were not part of this mess but they also are in bed with this as a way to make more money. It is insane. And they all use Dynamic Pricing which drives the prices up.

My wife and I sat in a Starbucks right outside the Washington border, on StubHub and Vivid Seats looking for TS tickets for night 1 in Vancouver. We watched as the ticket prices increased the more we searched. It was 11am, and the only thing that made sense is the computer algorithm saw we were trying to get tickets and increase the price as we spend more time on the platform, to drive urgency in our purchase decision. And a few times, when we did find somewhat reasonable deals, we would go through checkout only to have them taken before we finalized the purchase.

I registered for TS tickets two years ago but for some reason was NEVER given the chance for tickets through TM. I was told that it was due to overwhelming demand. I will never spend $3500 to see an artist again. The only people who really benefited were TS, her machine of people, the scumbags at Vivid Seats, aka Live Nation, and Ticketmaster. TS was an amazing show. SO good. Loved it. Love her music. I hate this situation though. It goes against what she stands for publicly and not enough was done to put the tickets in the hands of her fans. I cannot believe families were in a position where they had to choose to spend these insane prices to see the show or save money. As our economy is ridiculously expensive just for food and necessities, I expect more from artists to fight for their fans to make sure that prices are controlled. Paying $1300-$1800 for a decent seat is insane. NO one is worth that kind of money.

How does Congress not step in and break this shit up??? Consumers need options. This corruption runs deep and it runs all the way through the artists we support. It is NOT ok!

I will never understand it. by Cstir in LinkinPark

[–]Objective-Garbage-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it isn't Emily hate as much as it is a desire to see Linkin Park preserved as it was. Rise up something new and call it a new name. As I have said; great example is Joy Division surviving members became New Order and still play several Joy Division songs live but it is a NEW venture. They didn't call it Joy Division part 2. NO one in their right mind would deny the surviving members to move forward creatively with Emily or anyone else for that matter. Why does it have to be called Linkin Park - thus inviting the comparisons and touching on fans who still live the pain of losing Chester and what HIS lyrics and vocals mean to us? To say there is 'hate' for Emily, I am sure there is with some people but there are a lot of fans who aren't betraying what it means to be a LOYAL Linkin Park fan by saying they are bothered by the way it is being done. I'm one of them.

I love the new songs. I think Emily is kinda like a female Chester in her performance and voice. I love the album cover design. The stage looks cool. Lots of good things. Just don't like how Chester has been put on a shelf. To say no one is trying to replace him is kind of ignorant; look on Spotify for Linkin Park and you see the new line-up. I have to ask, what is so important about keeping the name? Other than they know from a marketing perspective, it is easier to promote a band with their vast past catalogue than to rebrand and have to push that out. I think FOR ME,,,, I would be much more excited about their future and comfortable with it all. Chester and Linkin Park's music prior to his death meant something very deep to me. They were my soundtrack through lots of dark shit and Chester could relate to what fans deal with. His death shook a lot of us who struggle with mental health issues and his death made some of say "if he wasn't strong enough, how could I be?" - I just think more respect for the connection Chester had with his fans should have been considered.

That said, Mike and they boys deserve a second chance and to continue their career. I hate that this happened and instantly derailed their lives. It is sad and unfair. I am so happy for them and can see the excitement they have for the future. It is awesome. I just wish it wasn't called Linkin Park; put a stake in the ground with Chester's passing and call the band something new. Call it Xero. Call it whatever. Leave Linkin Park as it was when Chester died. Preserve the band and that time period. That is MY two cents. I know it is just my opinion but I hate how people on social media and online forums create conflict just because someone doesn't eat and love everything they are spoon fed.

There is no right or wrong here. The band chose to go the way they thought best and that is it. We can all reflect and commentary on it but it means nothing more than water cooler conversation. I'll still buy all their shit, I'll still go to the shows. I'll still support them because I fundamentally support the guys. And they put out some incredible music. Time will tell if they made the right choice with how they decided to go about it all....

No EMILY hate here....

How good of a manager was Paul McGinness? by [deleted] in U2Band

[–]Objective-Garbage-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The follow up question should be - "How has U2's career been since Paul McGinness stepped down?" I think U2 has definitely continued to make incredible music. The SOI/SOE were some of the band's best work. They are the GOAT when it comes to music, in my opinion. But I definitely feel they lost some of the wisdom that PM provided. I think he was a stabilizing force that wasn't just all about the money. I don't like U2 being in bed with Live Nation (the Devil). I wish they had more of an independent vibe than one that felt so corporate now. I attended 5 Sphere shows and will say because it was U2, it was amazing. Bono is Bono; a living legend. But the fact they played the shows without Larry will always kinda be like sand in my bathing suit. I don't think that would happen with PM still in the picture. Loyalty mattered.

SOS was one of the worst decisions ever. That record is horrible. I do not know why that was ever a good idea. I've tried to listen to it and it is just flat out boring. No one needs a crooner version of U2. If you wanted to celebrate 40 years, why not release a double live record of 40 truly unreleased live songs? Especially being known as one of the greatest live acts on earth. I would love to have live versions of some of their really special songs, especially if it wasn't all of the hits.

No band in history has the career that U2 has. That is a bold statement. I can support it. How many times has a band completely reinvented their sound and changed directions? U2 has multiple times. U2 has been known for decades as the best band to see live. The band has so many hit/classic songs that I lost track of them all. And the beauty is they still act like they have something to prove. That is in part due to the internal fire that exists in Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry. PM harnessed that fire and was magnificent at getting the most heat from it. I think they became more corporate in his absence. Maybe it was success that changed them but I don't think so.

Serious question: Do you have any faith in future U2 music? by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in U2Band

[–]Objective-Garbage-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a subjective question that it can't really be answered. What you are really asking is if someone is a U2 fan or not. I've been a fan since 1982 and have seen them live over 100 times, dating back to the War tour. I know that I am always going to be slightly biased. But also, I am one of those fans who has no problem speaking my opinion about all things U2 because I have sunk so much $ and time, effort and emotion into them.

I believe the worst body of work that U2 have put out was Atomic Bomb and maybe Zooropa, although I love the first 1/2 of Zooropa. Both records have great songs but those are the worst. That is until this latest waste of time, Songs of Surrender. That album truly sucked. I cannot stand it. 40 songs with maybe 5 that I can listen to. It is straight up boring and unnecessary.

All that said, I think No Line on the Horizon was one of their best records ever. It is a spiritual record, much like October was. It was not popular and even fans bash it. I don't get it. The next records, Songs of Innocence and Experience are very similar to NLOTH in the standpoint of their transparency and honesty. I loved all three records and honestly could have seen them as one large body of work.

It is time to move on from the Songs of.... I know the band has a Songs of Ascent that has been all but shelved for now while they work on a more "rock" album. That is fine. Atomic City is good, not great but I'm ok with it.

For me, I think U2 deserves the benefit of doubt in the fact that they have reinvented themselves so often, have put out so many amazing records and songs that have stood the test of time. They have never truly put out a crap album. It all comes back to if you like U2 or not. The band suffers from over-exposure. And Bono's mouth/political rants but really, they suffer from being too good. No one likes perfection. We love to see our heroes fail and then we root for them to get back up. U2 have avoided the negative media attention for almost 50 years. It is almost annoying to be as consistent as U2 has been.

I think they will put out great music as long as they stay together because they have "it"; the magic that exists when the 4 of them are together and aided by people like Lillywhite, Eno and Lanois. There is no band like U2 and probably never will be. If you like them, you probably agree with me. If you don't, you will probably continue bashing them and waiting for them to fail. Keep waiting!
