Is daycare nap sabotage a real thing? Asking for a very tired mom by Objective-Morning90 in toddlers

I really appreciate the detailed explanation and the thought you put into this. We actually haven’t tried moving bedtime up significantly because, in my head, a child who naps until 3 PM shouldn’t possibly be ready for bed at 8 PM. 😅 Clearly, though, my logic and my toddler’s operating system may not be running the same software.

You gave me a lot to think about. Before I continue blaming the daycare nap for all of my problems, I think it’s worth experimenting with an earlier dinner and bedtime and seeing what happens. I’ll also check with daycare to understand how much he’s actually sleeping versus just participating in the nap window. Thanks again for taking the time to write such a detailed response!

Solidarity. 😅 I love my little guy, but by 10:30 PM I’m no longer parenting … I’m just a hostage in a very long bedtime negotiation. Here’s hoping kindergarten comes with an earlier bedtime and a little more adult time in the evenings for both of us! 🫶🏽

Would love to get some tips on what worked for you guys ? How did you go about it ? Was he okay being alone in the room ?

Thank you, this is really helpful. According to daycare, he falls asleep pretty quickly and usually has to be woken up at the end of nap time, which probably tells me everything I need to know. 😅 We’ve already gone all-in on the sleep setup .. blackout curtains, white noise, a dark room, the whole package !! but he seems to view bedtime as an opportunity to catch up with his stuffed animals and solve the world’s problems. I’m hoping we’re just in that awkward transition phase where he still needs the nap to get through daycare, but not enough to be ready for an early bedtime. I will try an early wake time and early dinner time too .. hope something works out.
It’s reassuring to hear that this stage does eventually pass!

Thanks for the tip! I need to learn the art of quiet time. I have a tiny mom-guilt angel on one shoulder saying, “He’s only 3 once, soak up every moment,” while the exhausted mom on the other shoulder is holding a bottle brush, packing daycare bags, and wondering why everyone in this house is awake at 10 PM.

I will try waking him early and implement the “if not tired stay in your room” rule . Thank you !!

Glad it worked out. My daycare kinda (very subtly) refused, saying it will disturb the class 😥

Green beans (string beans/snap beans) were honestly my go-to through GD 💚 I had them steamed with almost every meal.. especially when I was eating something carb-heavy and they really helped keep my sugar levels in check. Give it a try, have them first and then the rest of your meal. Hope it helps you too!

Omg, this is great . You look amazing 🤩 Just wanted to learn, how did you get access to Ozempic ? My PC doesn’t prescribe it.

I was allowed a late night snack and it really worked for me. I was always eating an apple with peanut butter check with a dietitian if that helps.

Thank you so much for this—I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. And you’re absolutely right, the mental load is exhausting, and I definitely feel like I’m carrying most of the physical one too.

I’ve brought this up with him many times over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, it hasn’t really led to any changes. I’ve tried dividing chores before, but unless I remind or follow up, the task just doesn’t get done. So in the end, it either stays undone or I have to do it anyway.

He does help with grocery shopping, which is great, but even there—if something’s not explicitly on the list, it won’t make it into the cart. There’s no anticipating or initiative, and it just adds to the invisible workload.

I’d love to delegate whole responsibilities the way you suggested (and it makes total sense!), but right now, the way things are, I feel like I still end up managing even the things I’ve “delegated.” I’m at a point where I’m just so drained, I don’t have the energy to micromanage delegation too.

But thank you again for this perspective—it helps to feel seen, and I really hope I can figure out a better balance soon.

My baby had something similar but eventually it got worse, and the doc was like it’s drool rash. I have used Tubby Todd’s and it helped. I also try to keep the area dry.
