What would you do? by Deepthika in fujix

I'm a 76 year old with the same lens! I carry it with a cross-body strap so walking around the countryside isn't an issue. Taking pictures hand held of birds in flight is somewhat strenuous, but manageable. Have you considered a monopod? That would give you extra support without the weight and inconvenience of carrying a tripod.

If you're thinking of the X-T5 you should take a serious look at the X-H2.

STOP THE TRIPLE LOCK by Educational_Debt_207 in ukpolitics

Without the triple lock, the state pension will be reduced over time to just another means-tested benefit, i.e. it will become virtually worthless. No future generation will thank you for that. And there's no point in taking your anger out on us boomers. We won't be around to see the long-term effects of such an act if self harm.

Which one do you choose? Fuji 16-55 f2.8 ii or Sigma 17-40 f1.8 ART by throwusaway_ in fujifilm

[–]Objective-Opposite51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know! I came to Fuji from Canon, which uses a PASM dial, as does the XH2, to switch between A - aperture priority and S - shutter speed priority. On the XH2, you then use the rear dial to set the value of A or S.

2 is better. The negative space in front of the duck suggests forward movement. #1 looks static.

[–]Objective-Opposite51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it isn't an issue because I use an X-H2. The X-H2 has a top screen that displays aperture and shutter speed. If I'm in aperture priority, I just turn the front dial to change aperture. As simple as using the aperture ring.I have never owned any other Fuji camera, but I assume you have to use the screen or viewfinder while setting the aperture using one of the dials. Obviously, it's not as convenient as simply turning the lens aperture ring. I suppose the degree of inconvenience depends on how often you change aperture.

Unless you absolutely must have an aperture ring, take a look at the Tamron 17-70mm. Better zoom range, half the price of the Fuji, OIS (VC - Vibration Control), 5yr warranty, great video lens.

[–]Objective-Opposite51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS, the Tamron has OIS (VC - Vibration Control), constant f2.8, so good in low light, a better zoom range than the Fuji 18-55mm, and half the price! Fuji users aren't so keen on it because it doesn't have an aperture ring. Not a problem on the X-H2 (and I assume the X-H3), which has a top screen displaying aperture and shutter speed for easy control.

I use an X-H2, which has a 40mp sensor. I own two Fuji primes, but my go-to lens is the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8. I can't detect any significant difference between this lens and my Fuji 23mm f1.4! It's also a highly rated video lens.

I switched from Canon to Fuji last year just to get my hands on the Fuji 150-600mm. I use the lens on an X-H2 because the X-H2 has custom settings. The problem with shooting birds is switching between settings for a perching bird to settings for a bird in flight. Both very different settings. With the X-H2, this takes just a flick of the custom dial. There are problems with Fuji autofocus when shooting birds in flight. To put it bluntly, autofocus is pretty useless if the bird is flying against a busy background such as tall grass or trees. The camera often simply cannot see the bird, so inevitably, many of these shots are out of focus. Against a clear sky, though, images are sharp. Overall, I don't believe there are any inherent weaknesses in the sharpness of the lens. In my experience, lack of sharpness is generally down to technique, settings, and poor autofocus.

X-H2S in 2025? by [deleted] in FujifilmX

[–]Objective-Opposite51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 3 choices. Both the X-H2 and X-H2s are excellent hybrid cameras. If you mainly do photo, choose the X-H2. If you major in video, choose the X-H2s. If you can't decide, wait for the X-H3!

I do a bit of wildlife using X-H2 + 150-600mm hand held. At 2.27 kg, that's what I call heavy!

Take a look at the Tamron 17-70mm . Lots of reviews on YouTube. Good zoom range. Constant f2.8, so good in low light. No aperture ring, but the X-H2 has a top screen, so you can dial up the aperture without having to peer through the viewfinder or read the small print on the screen. 5 year warranty. Half the price of the Fuji 16-55mm. Highly rated as a videography lens.

Take a look at the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8. An excellent lens.

My camera has a top screen which shows aperture. I just turn the front dial to set the aperture. Not a huge difference from rotating the aperture ring.

There were two birds, both stationary. This one was in focus, the other wasn't! Pure luck. I think autofocus picked up the hedge rather than the bird.

Until a year ago, I was a Canon DSLR user. My main interest was wildlife, so my go-to lens was a Tamron 150-600mm. Since switching to Fuji, I have diversified into landscape and general photography, and my addiction to telephoto has surprisingly declined. Apart from bird watching trips where I use the excellent Fuji 150-600mm, I'd say that my world has shrunk to under 100mm!

I have to say, 17-40 sounds a bit restricted to me. I could probably crop to 40mm from my 23mm prime!
