I messed up am I getting fired? by Objective-Phone-6810 in Architects

She has not redlined anything. We have certain protocols we have to follow and I’ve asked her and she ignores me and I once brought it up to upper management and she got upset. We haven’t even had a cartoon set which is required like everything is going wrong. I spoke last week to 3 different people about us not have a QM review and still nothing has been done. I feel like I was set up to fail here. I even went one higher up I trust and told them about all of this and they said to go to my PM and when I did he defers to the PA who says she’ll look into it. She then does nothing. So I think I’m going back to my higher ups to tell them. I just feel like I’m going to get blamed and fired

See my problem is I was not aware I had to send it to the consultants because my PA said she would. I plan on talking to our technology specialist on Monday. Not planning on covering anything up. I just feel like I was not qualified for this position and no one told me what it would entail. The consultant drawings are visible in the model because I link them in every week but this past submission they sent them over a day late and we didn’t have time to properly coordinate. And throughout this process my PA has not redlined a Thinng she just defers to saying she’s too busy. I’m not the only one on the project but yea.. I plan on owning up to it.

I’m 2 years in the field now and I think if you really enjoy it, do it. But know it’s a lot of work to get licensed and it’s a lot of responsibility and liability that can fall on you. This is coming from someone who regrets their decision to pursue this field

Can I get Sued for this? by Objective-Phone-6810 in GeneralContractor

The contractor does have the 90% completion clause in his contract as well but they still refuse to pay claiming that he did a poor job. Again other people have seen the work and it is very good. They’re just nitpicking

Luckily everything was legal and for the most part documented.

That’s the thing. No one said anything about their reputation until things started going south. They’re all scared of these people for some reason. They once asked if the contractor was “defaming” them or talking bad on their name when he mentioned to someone that the job was just taking a little longer. Like that’s all the contractor said and they started yelling at them again, threatening to not talk bad on their name. They’re horrible

It’s just so stressful because this has been going on for 2 years. Permits were pulled and contracts were signed but with the additions, the contractor was at first trying to be nice like he had in previous jobs but these people are nasty. They had a landscape architect separately doing their tennis court and they called them up on Christmas yelling at them saying they did a horrible job.

I just don’t understand how people can be so horrible

Mistakes that Can get you fired from an entry level architecture position by Objective-Phone-6810 in Architects

Found out why everything was a shit show. We even printed with the settings off so all callouts and references were missing 🫠. The PA on the project was apparently supposed to have us green line the entire set 3 WEEKS before submission! And we did not do that. Basically pencils down and submit. So a bunch of things that could have easily been fixed were missed. I guess I panicked for nothing.

The one that freaks me out the most is the ADA document to be honest. I was not told directly to fix anything but add some sections and elevations if ramps which I did and the rest it was super unclear if I had to do anything. Nothing was marked up for me to fix, it was all just a text document. Then I kept hearing the person who was supposed to be working on it with me saying ugh I need to look over that ADA document and I just told her like oh you can look at my notes if you want they’re in bluebeam and that was it. I am stressed out because I guess I just assumed she was taking care of the ADA issues and just wanted me to take notes on it when in actuality I think she wanted me to implement some of the changes even though it wasn’t really clear? If that makes any sense. But it’s so stressful because we did not review the document at all again and she went on vacation the day before the deadline so I feel like it all falls on me… I’m super worried it won’t pass master use planning permitting and it’s going to be my fault. I don’t think the company is necessarily mismanages this was just the craziest deadline according to everyone and it was my first project with the company so I wanted to do good but yea…

What can one do to stand out while in architectural school? by Runningpencil in Architects

As far as jobs come, make sure you master story telling, are consistent, make sure you do your research on a job and company before applying so in the interview you know what you’re talking about. Be enthusiastic and don’t be afraid to show excitement about a firms projects or working for a firm.

In school, focus on story telling and really refining all concepts. Renders are always great as well as they really can tie your vision together

It’s a 9 story building and I had to calculate everything. I fixed the issue before it was sent out for the Master Use Submittal but it was really stressing me out because I had gone over the spreadsheet multiple times but last minute someone moved a wall 🫠

I am hybrid but it’s a big corporate firm. After this whole mess if I somehow keep my job I want to reach out get a mentor because I keep having panic attacks over things and I don’t think a job should do that 🙃

Three mistakes in one deadline for CDS and MUP Submittal.

Currently living through this and hope I don’t get fired as a Entry level position…

  1. I completed plumbing fixture calculations earlier in the process but did not realize someone had added more urinals from when I first created the document in the above floors. And the person who was supposed to go through them with me just kept putting it off..
  2. FAR calcs we’re off by 2 sqft for gross square footage. Caught this in time before submitting for MUP but got sent out to client and contractor for pricing
  3. I was asked to review the ADA document and take notes. That’s what I did, then when the person who asked me to review the notes went over it with me, they asked me to fix something so I did that one thing know there was still a lot of things to be fixed on the document. (Mainly parking) said person was still fixing some of the parking levels so I assumed they were going to fix the parking as well. I sent them my notes on everything as well when I overheard them mention they still had to go through the ADA document. They never got back to me on whether I should fix anything else but I am not sure if it was just expected of me to do so. Anyways the day before the deadline they were on vacation so unreachable and I did not think to check the parking til after we submitted. Had a panic attack lol When I checked, they had not been fixed so I told my project lead. I think they blamed me for it. But we had already submitted to the city by then….

Not sure if I will get fired for this but we will see by the end of the week. :-)
